Great game! Congratulations to USA from Finland. In the end, I think that the win went for the right country. It is always so funny to see two really different teams, playing with really different style to come on top of everyone else. USA definetly had most individual skill and speed, also somehow more tenacious on the puck. Finland were the best tactically and in playing support game as a team which included mental side. And obviously they had the best goalie.

Id say that until the third period and until the last few minutes of the second when they were leading 3-1, the game was going exactly according to their game plan. So no blowout, but yes, Rimpinen definetly kept the US from winning it already in the third period.
Hell of a hockey game. My boss yelled at me four times for watching it instead of doing my managerial tasks in the restaurant while it was on tv. When we won. He understood how much it meant and we apologized to each other. Love this team and the way they can just take control. So sad we'll never see them fully together again. I love both Finland and the US. What a game!! Great play by both. As a former goalie, I have to give props to Finland's goalie, his technique was excellent. Unfortunately, it seems that he wasn't given much of a chance in that OT period, with some defensive slips. But overall, this was anyone's game. Much respect to both!
Finland’s performance was truly exceptional. With a population of less than 6 million people, their achievements stand as a testament to their skill, determination, and resourcefulness. While the U.S. benefits from a significantly larger population and resources, Finland’s ability to compete at such a high level highlights their remarkable talent and dedication.
The resources in the US are better -- though after a certain point does more matter? But very, very few Americans ever touch a hockey puck. And of the few that ever do, very, very few of them ever play competitively as teens or higher. It's just a serious, wide-spread activity in a handful of states in the North. For example, in my entire state (which is about 3/4 the area and population of Finland) there is only one (small) skating rink and I have never met an inhabitant who has played competitive hockey. Never. Auston Mathews is truly a unicorn who almost defies explanation (i.e., even with his access to exceptional training, it's amazing that he developed without abundant top-level regional competition waiting around every corner).
Great team from Finland. Some hard shooters and elite goaltending! This US team was flying all tournament. Hutson is unbelievable.... Small for a defender but so darn quick and skilled.

Them not being in this one balances things out. We both know, if they were here, they would be cheating still -- just in a different way. I was a looking for this comment. Now I know someone else thinks the same. To me Finland only played the first period. 2nd, 3rd and OT they looked exhausted and slow. Usa took advantage of that. Oh and that unlucky bounce gave USA the momentum.
Fun game to watch. If the US had been knocked out, I'd have been rooting for the Finns. That said, looking forward to what Buium and Kumpulainen will bring to the Wild in the near future. Glad to see them both factor into the scoring.

That was great! They hate us so much it's kinda pathetic. Don't worry Canada hockey is still your game but someone else will win every once in a while, settle down. What I like especially is seeing comments about youth hockey in the USA, Canadians always say well you wouldn't do shit in Canada etc because the hockey is far superior. Well our best can clearly compete with the best kids around the world we just don't focus on hockey in general as broadly country wide as they do. Anyway glad to see the repeat.
I watched the game and I really wished that Finns could take gold home but granted that US had much higher momentum on the overtime and they deserved it this time. Nothing from Finns - it was an tough OT game. A dream finale!

Римппинен - вратарь года! Большинство его пропущенных шайб - это ошибки команды. Особенно когда 1 вышел против ТРЁХ защитников и сделал бросок в ворота! Гол не забил, но очень острый момент! А вообще США повезло. Первый гол запихали в ворота, второй - случайный отскок, третий красивый. Но у финнов все 3 гола были красивыми. Ну а четвёртый... Опять команда налажала хотя и Римппинен сплоховал. Но надо понимать что это было в дополнительном времени. Если полевые игроки сменяют друг друга, то вратарь всю игру проводит в поле. Тяжело иметь ту же реакцию как и в начале.

It wasn't even close yeah. The USA was far better than us. We couldn't make a pass to save our lives while the OT pass on the winner in this game was incredible. Canada needs to send their best players or we won't win this tournament.

Them not being in this one balances things out. We both know, if they were here, they would be cheating still -- just in a different way. A tiger does not simply wake up one day and decide to change its stripes. Or do are you so naive as to believe otherwise? (shakes head) The burden is on them to prove they are no longer the worst cheaters in international sporting history. Sorry. Not sorry. They are not missed on this stage or any other. The world without Russia is a better place for everyone. They have only themselves to blame.

I was a looking for this comment. Now I know someone else thinks the same. To me Finland only played the first period. 2nd, 3rd and OT they looked exhausted and slow. Usa took advantage of that. Oh and that unlucky bounce gave USA the momentum.
Fun game to watch. If the US had been knocked out, I'd have been rooting for the Finns.
That said, looking forward to what Buium and Kumpulainen will bring to the Wild in the near future. Glad to see them both factor into the scoring.

That was great! They hate us so much it's kinda pathetic. Don't worry Canada hockey is still your game but someone else will win every once in a while, settle down. What I like especially is seeing comments about youth hockey in the USA, Canadians always say well you wouldn't do shit in Canada etc because the hockey is far superior. Well our best can clearly compete with the best kids around the world we just don't focus on hockey in general as broadly country wide as they do. Anyway glad to see the repeat.

I watched the game and I really wished that Finns could take gold home but granted that US had much higher momentum on the overtime and they deserved it this time. Nothing from Finns - it was an tough OT game. A dream finale!

Римппинен - вратарь года! Большинство его пропущенных шайб - это ошибки команды. Особенно когда 1 вышел против ТРЁХ защитников и сделал бросок в ворота! Гол не забил, но очень острый момент! А вообще США повезло. Первый гол запихали в ворота, второй - случайный отскок, третий красивый. Но у финнов все 3 гола были красивыми. Ну а четвёртый... Опять команда налажала хотя и Римппинен сплоховал. Но надо понимать что это было в дополнительном времени. Если полевые игроки сменяют друг друга, то вратарь всю игру проводит в поле. Тяжело иметь ту же реакцию как и в начале.
Всё в спорте составлено из случайностей и везения. Особенно в игровых видах спорта.

Nothing lucky about that win, Finland outplayed the US for one period and got essentially dominated for the rest of the game. Honestly luckier that the US didn't score more with how many amazing chances they had

The MVP to Leonard was a complete farce. Without Rimpinen, Finland would have been knocked out in the quarterfinals.
Leonard took a ton of punishment this tourney and still delivered. Looks like he broke his nose too. All while being booed by the hometown crowd. He's the rightful MVP in my book.

Better team won tonight for sure. Finland started off very well, very direct... but 2nd and 3rd periods and OT dominated by the U.S. U.S. looked more individually skilled for sure in OT. Grats on silver though. Finnish goaltender had an unreal tournament too imo, very good.
