  • New Hope and Ivyland's pride and joy, steam locomotive #40, is back on the rails this October, pulling the fall foliage excursion train from New Hope to Buckingham and back. Well, actually, it pulls the train only the Lahaska, runs around the train there, then pushes it to Buckingham, before backing back to New Hope. Steam locomotive #40 is a 2-8-0 consolidation, built-in 1925 by Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia. It was originally sold to the Lancaster & Chester Railroad, and then to the Cliffside Railroad in 1947 before it was acquired by the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad in 1962. An interesting addition to this train is the Ex Reading Blueliner No. 9123 on the back end of the train, still painted in Reading colors after being acquired from the Reading Technical and Historical Society.

Great video! I love that whistle as well as the wheel slip at Lower Mountain Road

Thanks! I can tell they were having a bit of trouble with that since when we went back this weekend, they added a diesel in to assist.

Wonder if 60 meets up with 40 for a doubleheader run in the future?

I would love that, although it would have to take a very circuitous route to New Hope.
