When Robyn first released music she was signed to a label who wanted her to produce typical 'pop' music. She broke away from that and started her own company because she wanted to do her own thing and have the creative freedom to influence her music. This isn't a step back, her new music is a departure from generic pop music. It's a testament to how awesome she really is. =)
Robyn was a young Swedish girl of the 90's who loved American R&B and Hip Hop and pursued her dream to record that style of music, even though she would later experiment with other genres like electronica. It's a testament to the universality of music and its power to transcend ethnic and national boundaries and I personally have no problem with her early choice of music.
I heard an interview with Stevie Wonder many years ago ,probably after this Robyn album " Robyn was here" was realeased and he talked about the music in US at that time and what he thought about new singers and so. He mention Robyn and this song Youve got that somethin. He meant she had something extra in her voice. I dont think he knew Robyn wasnt American but Swedish , blond and white as mashed potatooes.
Her new stuff is so much more, what's that word? Creative. That's it. I'm sure it took a lot of guts to break off from her record label and go it on her own. Her music and her creative integrity are the better for it.
Thank GOD she left this bubble gum pop stuff behind and dumped that "major label" ... I don't know how labels survive when they serve up this stuff. Robyn's new stuff, under Konichiwa Records is simply superb. I love her, her label and her music.
Why do these record companies try to take these white girls, who have their own unique talent, and try to make them r&b/pop....smh. Happy she got back to herself I prefer that music.
omg i love her so much now. I can't say how much I love what she became :) musically and aesthetically. Really she is absolutely fantastic now... these clothes just don't suit her AT ALL. (anyone else thinks she looks about 10 years older than in her actual videos?)
Yep it's sooooo commercial!! Like P!nk she was being pushed in a particular direction so got out from under her label n started putting her on style on her music n in her vids! Sooo funny when u look back at the AWFUL style....memories....
She needs to make another R&B album because this is a classic.
10 years later and I agree
White people aren't allowed to sing R&B, that's for Black people.

What a classic pop/rnb song. Great production: layered vocals, that piano half way and the guitar are beautiful....
Robyn SET the trend of 90s blue eye soul!!! Without her we wouldnt have the sounds that followed with Spice Girls, Britney, BSB, Nsync, Xtina....
without a doubt
Mandy Moor & Leanne Rimes too.
White girl ALWAYS had RHYTYM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love her! She's on beat & EVERYTHING! She makes great music also, obvi! :-D
I’ve never knew it was a video for this song. Another than that her debut album was straight fire 🔥. Not one song was skipped!!
So many years later and I still love this song as much as I did when it first came out! A true feel good song!
She set the standard for what I wanted in a woman in my teen years. Loved those blue eyes. Loved that voice.
2:14 those funky perfect doo-wop backing vocals are so amazing! Her voice is very unique and every style she evolves into stands the test of time!

Mark Weston she reminds me of Lisa Standsfield on her first album. This sounds like "you can't deny it"!
Exactly my thought and then I saw this comment 😍
I agree and she’s a TLC fan so she would probably take that as a compliment.

Yep it's sooooo commercial!! Like P!nk she was being pushed in a particular direction so got out from under her label n started putting her on style on her music n in her vids! Sooo funny when u look back at the AWFUL style....memories....
