It's incredible that this song that makes you want to get on the dancefloor is actually so depressing yet relatable :( I feel like we've sort of all been there
*10 years ago, Robyn released “Dancing on My Own” from her fifth studio album, ‘Body Talk’* *The cult classic has been named the best song of the last decade by a plethora of music outlets. It has seen great cultural impact. Max Martin, who himself has co-written 22 Billboard Hot 100 number ones said that "It's one of the best pop songs ever made".*
@@TheBetterGamer Robyn has influenced some of the major pop records of the decade. Taylor Swift, Ariana, Lorde, Carly Rae Jepsen, they all took some inspiration for their albums. Max Martin, who used to work with Robyn, said that he often has pop stars coming to him saying that they want to make a record like Body Talk. You probably have never heard of Robyn, but a lot of artists have. And if you go back to the 90s, Britney Spears was first signed in a record label as an effort to create an "american Robyn", as she was already huge in Europe.
Just heard this song for the first time about a week ago. Are you kidding me?? This song is the absolute bomb. Can't blast it enough. In the car, I'm like a teenager all over again!! Thanks Robyn, fabulous job.😊🙋♂️
Calum’s version is much, much better. her voice is pitchy and the beat is off. I don’t know who Robyn is, but my first impression of her is not impressive.
I'm so pissed off at the people saying "Callum Scott is better". I know that everyone has opinions, but how do people have the nerve to comment that on the original artists video. Like why not say, "I like her voice" or something. Secondly, there is no "better". She has a different style from Callum, so you may like a style of singing over another but no style is "better". You don't have the right to judge her.
Interesting you say that, because I was just thinking about this- how Callum has more views. I like Callum's take, but I honestly like Robyn's more. Great song! :)
+Mikey the boss omfg you can't say someone is better. You can like Calum better, but that doesn't give you the right to discredit Robyn. THERE IS NO CALUM WITHOUT ROBYN. So you may like him better, but there is no "better" singer.
This song got me through some tough times the summer it came out. I was hella single and hella jealous because of it and that summer we DANCED. This song is about DANCING. We need no ballad version of this song. I'm sorry. Dance music gets treated so terribly in the music business. It is NOT disposable. It's primal, real, energetic, cathartic and emotional! Keep dancing everyone. Keep dancing.
First heard Robyn in a club in Chicago many years ago called Le Mere Vapire. She's a legend at this point. A true original, always far ahead of her time. Words can not express fully.
We danced to this masterpiece last night... It's amazing how much comfort this song keeps on giving. No matter if you're dancing on your own or if you're with a significant other. Forever grateful for this jewel, Robyn ❤️
This is the low standard we have set in recent times. It is an enjoyable pop/dance song but lyrically it is somewhat silly, and musically it is very very basic. But I still enjoy it for what it is, a club song with some emotion. That's it. Why people think this an objectively "good" song beyond a club jam is simply ludicrous. But like 90s dance songs, it will be a classic in that regard, better than many in that genre.
@@turntablesrockmyworld9315 Oh come on, that's what everyone your age says. If you really actually knew you wouldn't be so ignorant. Also. that whole 'it's so musically basic' argument has to stop. Writing such infectious melodies with very few notes but that sound unique to that specific song is the absolute hardest thing to do as a writer. Few people can do it well. Songs that try to complicated sound so forced and only the use of weird notes makes them interesting. You sound like a rick beato fan.
tbh robyn has like the best original songs and everyone covers them and they become even more popular and like half the people don’t know it’s actually her song bc she’s a queen and like i discovered her from a cover of her song call your girlfriend from Lennon and maisy and even tho i prefer their version she’s still so underrated

I hear a lot of her songs in the US just sung by someone else....which is stupid.
In my opinion she isn't, but I get what you are saying. I am sure music politics have something to do with it. I loved her back in the day and still love her now.
robyn's version hurts so much. it immediately gives me flashbacks to prom when i watched my crush dance with a different girl the entire night, hoping he'd ask me to slow dance just once. it's feeling ugly and jealous while everyone else is having fun and the music is upbeat. truly torturous.
this is genuinely one of the best pop songs of all time
I think it's absolutely the best pop song of this century to date
@@mikewilson1138 this and run away with me by carly rae!
so true and it's definitely influenced the overall sound of pop music of the 2010s
How ridiculous of a thing to say this comes no where to near to the likes of the Beatles
@@igotdarkaether4813 robyn could do hey jude but the beatles couldn’t do dancing on my own
Smashes any cover. The feeling is different. Robyn projects strength. No one else does.
*Robyn's original song here is better than all the other covers ever! :3*
Absolutely!! Critical difference, covers dont do the song justice to its original intention
Plus she’s a musician. She sings, the others drop flashy, cliché effects to overcompensate and impress the uneducated.
correct the 'male' version sounds like a weak sauce
Sorry, but in my opinion Calum Scott's not only crushes the original- it disintegrates it!..
I just found out that she is the original.
Respect Robyn
Same, Finding out right now!
Same ! And I love it 💚
Um..no she's not the original❤

@@mytravelgoals3835 I mean you're objectively wrong but ok
Delighted to hear this original version, first time. Love it. Will play today on DJ 'Moon Blues'.
I honestly feel like this is the song of my generation. No matter how much praise it gets it will forever be underrated
It got some love this past weekend on NPR www.npr.org/2019/06/10/730641583/robyn-dancing-on-my-own-alone-together-american-anthem
This song helped me so much during the last months of 2022.
Just dancing the pain away.
Now I hear this and i dance so happily.
Good for you sister, keep holding your head high. ❤
Fuck yeah. Own yourself. Nobody can ever take that. No matter what they do.
dont know why but when she said the part 3:20 im not the girl you are taking home , instead of girl i listen guy xd i dont knlw if its the pronunciation or myself xd😅😅😅
Me as well. I love the Phillies. F Callum Scott
Checking in almost a year later to tell you, you're enough and you're loved.
Truly one of the greatest pop songs of all time.
The anthem for "I'm going to dance my way through these sad/stupid/angry feels"
It's incredible that this song that makes you want to get on the dancefloor is actually so depressing yet relatable :( I feel like we've sort of all been there
She wanted to recreate the dramatic tragedy of so many 70s disco tunes, how they combined pain and drama with disco dancing.
*10 years ago, Robyn released “Dancing on My Own” from her fifth studio album, ‘Body Talk’*
*The cult classic has been named the best song of the last decade by a plethora of music outlets. It has seen great cultural impact. Max Martin, who himself has co-written 22 Billboard Hot 100 number ones said that "It's one of the best pop songs ever made".*
@Scary Nightmare Just watched your video. Makes me more sad. 😭😭😭
Exactly! Pure sugar pop!
This is my first time listening to the song. What cultural impact did it have lol??
aaand it's well deserved IMHO :)
I love the irony of the sad lyrics and the up beat melody.
Yup. That's the point. She's dancing, which normally indicates happiness, but is torn on the inside.
It's called drugs. 😃 Nah, it's a great song!
This song is so timeless. Just listened to it - and danced to it - again for the first time in a long while and it honestly feels like a new song.
Just heard this song for the first time about a week ago. Are you kidding me?? This song is the absolute bomb. Can't blast it enough. In the car, I'm like a teenager all over again!! Thanks Robyn, fabulous job.😊🙋♂️
Did you say the bomb? 😳
Me too am wondering 😂😂😂😂 where it has been
Me too haha
That’s awesome, I’ve got it blasting in my Tesla! Good find bro.
same here...
This song is mesmerizing. I am already addicted to Robyn's intensity and playing her on loop.
This is very upbeat but at the same time it sounds a lot more emotional and sad.
there is no happy ending here
It is sad, I have cried with this. Especially in the "I just came to say goodbye" part.
janwarie I love the combo
That's robyn - upbeat melancholy

one of the greatest synthpop songs ever.
Let's observe a minute of silence for all those who think this song was originally written by Calum Scott
Lol I am one of them

Guilty here
Didnt he mentioned it before singing in bgt?
She is so original, the feeling she transmits it's just cathartic
Óscar César Hernández Ávalos Excellent description of her.
without robyn there would be no calum. PERIOD!!! have some respect.
+U_GOT_A_PROBLEM nope, calums one is just fresh in the minds of sheep, Robyn's vocals andthe music is much better.. cheerup cheerio
Well it all comes down who wrote the song and composed it.
+U_GOT_A_PROBLEM Calum's version is from the tv show Smash.
Calum’s version is much, much better. her voice is pitchy and the beat is off. I don’t know who Robyn is, but my first impression of her is not impressive.
yes so true.
Just love her. Best version of this song by far ❤
Great song! :)
However I do love his take on Britain's Got Talent!!
You're so right on this, I love this song so much but obviously in the original version , Robyn you're my idol.
+Mikey the boss omfg you can't say someone is better. You can like Calum better, but that doesn't give you the right to discredit Robyn. THERE IS NO CALUM WITHOUT ROBYN. So you may like him better, but there is no "better" singer.
+12northstar13 Ikr, people don't understand that there is no "better" singer. It's all about preference.
Thank god for Sweden and it's amazing artists! ABBA, Roxette, Robyn, Lykke Li, Seinabo Sey ♡♥♡
Phillipe Ramos Don't forget Loreen
Don't forget Tove Lo
Loreeeeeen!
Phillipe Ramos And Zara Larsson ♡

This song got me through some tough times the summer it came out. I was hella single and hella jealous because of it and that summer we DANCED. This song is about DANCING. We need no ballad version of this song. I'm sorry. Dance music gets treated so terribly in the music business. It is NOT disposable. It's primal, real, energetic, cathartic and emotional! Keep dancing everyone. Keep dancing.
Dang that's a deep meaning in away to put it under?. :'(
Very well said. I never thought of your points. I have too much arthritis to dance anymore but I dance in my head to this song. I love Robyn.
Thank you!!

First heard Robyn in a club in Chicago many years ago called Le Mere Vapire. She's a legend at this point. A true original, always far ahead of her time. Words can not express fully.
Still dancing here in Chicago 💕⚡️
This song does wonders and justice to its lyrics. The cover was great but the original one is just out of this world.

Her version actually makes sense. His is a drab church version.
Johnpaul Morrison I was purely talking about the sound and flow of the song. Mostly he gave this song a better flow than it originally had.
@@CnBMedia
Yes because making it extremely drab, drawing it out and making it boring and literally not make any sense, what way did he make it better?
Johnpaul Morrison emotions
Such a painfully beautiful performance. The original lyrics makes so much more sense. Tearing up listening to this.
This will be remembered as one of the best pop songs of the early 21st century.
@@turntablesrockmyworld9315 still better than the absolute garbage of TODAY.
@@turntablesrockmyworld9315 let’s be real pop music isn’t very groundbreaking unless it’s an experimental artist that puts out a pop record
It is not
@@turntablesrockmyworld9315 Oh come on, that's what everyone your age says.
I love her version way moore, uplifting with depressive undertones to dance all the pain away 😍
This is the OG it's not a version
'Dance the pain away' makes me smirk 😂
