I'm so tired of ppl call Eminence in Shadow "bad", when they truly enjoyed it. Isn't the point of watching anime, to be entertained? We dnt need an anime to be serious, because at the end of the day, it's a cartoon to help us escape this shit world we live in. Eminence in Shadow covers that 100%

Very true ...honestly I don't enjoy it so it's not entertaining for me.....I admit this anime are pretty amazing & good,it just the characters are the problem:
.Cid/Shadow are kind of Psychotic to me but also cool & badass (It just his personality are twisted...too much for me to handle it)
.some of Heroines got wasted & messed up (I was afraid some of 7 shadow garden girls are wasted in the end)
.How they nerfed Aurora disappoint me. ( but I will keep on to it since we know so far the Aurora we saw are not her real self)

Bad Isekai is just repetitive tiring plot done over and over again attempting to make something out of it. Lacks proper story, plot or ever world building. Eminence is that same like other bad Isekais but instead of putting a cork on all the cliche ideas, the author allows it to flow through the story freely and somehow makes it entertaining. Good Isekai refers to how well the story is written and how well the mangakaka or author can continue on it.

@Retro Gamer I am riiiiight there with you. I do not have the highest standards for anime I love, but, I do feel the desire to defend Eminence from many of the adjectives used to describe/denounce it. "Bad" and "trashy" are descriptors I am vehemently against using for EiS. Unique, absolutely. Overly dramatic, whilst being as edgy as possible, yes. Abusing tropes for the sake of trope-ing the tropes, sure. Bad, hells nah.
It is fun, it is extreme, and it has a genuinely interesting and dark story. I watch/read Eminence for the plot alone. I actually don't like animes with gags and irreverent behavior, generally. EiS just happens to have comedy I can lol with, inbetween the plot development ad character development I love.

I fuckin loved EiS, it was so much fun to watch I was dying to see each episode every week. I think it's really too bad that a show actively pursuing a trope like "op protag and everyone else is an ant in comparison" is automatically considered a "bad" story. EiS does so much more than that, there's real effort put into the show, and just because they're pursuing a trope like that, and doing a good job and making it a really fun time, should be praised and not labeled as "so bad it's good" or some bullshit like that. It's just good, that's all there is to it, in my opinion.
(side note, i'm surprised Gigguk puts Slime on the same level as Re:Zero and Mushoku tensei, because imo those two are leagues above it in terms of quality and storytelling. How politics start affecting his life. How is absence can affect the people his looks after. How in the world words can cause as much damage as destruction. It is very goofy, but it expands the world and shows growth for everyone and how growth changes things.

Actually Slime is a very good world building series. Contains a bit of Trash, like all series on the other hand. If we take for example only the first season, The Eminence is probably a better product (personal opinion), but already speaking of the second season, Slime deserves to be among the best Isekai without any doubt.

    • @scipiovp921
      @scipiovp921 Рік тому +4

While the world building is pretty good in slime the main plot is pretty generic and kind of goes nowhere, and there are a lot of characters which are simply flat. It´s good but nowhere near ReZero or Mushoku, which both have a different interesting core. Mushoku with an even better world building and high realism (as far as fantasy goes) and ReZero with the suffering and hero subversion.
Eminence does something really interesting imo though, which is that the main character isn´t actually the main character. The MC usually has an arc for character progression, getting stronger etc., Eminence kind of does not do that. While he might kick-start events the mc of the current arc is pretty much always someone else. There is character developement for Iris, Alexia, Sherley and Rose. The Shadow Garden troop are your typical escalating fight against a powerful organisation. Each of these parts can actually take the spotlight for a story and we are stuck with Cid who is actually a npc and provides a really unique few into the matter and actually only does cool stuff without really interesting motivation.
Don´t know how the author got the idea for that and how it is so entertaining but it certainly is special.

Slime is one of the best isekai's to date, it may not be for everybody because its not full of action in every episode but the world building specifically is second to none. You saw Rimura take a village from nothing, just a few huts made of straw and wood and turn that area into a whole vast city, that's ever expanding and you saw how he did it, each step of the way, and it discusses economic factors essential to the successful operation of a city, such as trade, housing, and even regular meetings of the officials of tempest. When you think about it, Cid can't just discard his persona of being Cid. If he did, people might get suspicious. Being the ultimate mob character distracts from the idea that he is Shadow to the point that someone could negate his magic for like thirty seconds, because it was just disrupted like energy can do, and everyone who sees his slime cloak dissolve will refuse to believe the truth of their own eyes. Even if it does happen and he is discovered, it will involve someone asking why. And, he can smile confidently and say, "Why not? Even now, you refuse to believe the truth of your own eyes. It is precisely how I wished it to be." Revealing Batman would make sense because Bruce Wayne has the money and company to make the gadgets. Revealing Superman kind of makes sense because he's just Clark Kent without glasses. Cid? No. He is the exact opposite of Shadow. Nobody would believe he and Shadow are the same person. It's perfect. Eminence anime has subpar animation(sakuga) cuz it has a small studio working on it but beside that everything about it has is what LN fans want to have for their favorite series.
Like the director is an absolute monster for carrying this show and he is fan of the source material (not the LN but actual Web Novel) and this love can be seen when he requested for inclusion of WN exclusive character in the anime. And sword fight choreography is so good and realistic.

This was my problem with the show, but whenever I bring it up, people get mad at me. Like, nothing was explained properly, lol. At one point, I think at the end of Episode 2, the girls say they're going to leave, and he monologues about how people naturally want to go off on their own and forget about childish dreams. Then in Episode 3, he sees them again, but is absolutely not surprised and acts like they've kept in touch. I mean, it was obvious they were going off to chase down the demon cult, but the transition and execution was really confusing; I thought I missed an episode or something, because it made no sense.
Then there's the slime suit, which is only explained in a single sentence, then utterly ignored forever, despite it being his main form of combat. The fact that he's a magical god with no training irked me too. The show isn't bad, but even for an Isekai Power Fantasy, it takes too many gaps in logic. The show just assumes you know enough Anime tropes to fill in the gaps yourself. If I hadn't been watching Anime for decades, I would be probably be confused about how the story unfolded, because it's just not coherent.

I think if that list were to be updated for the modern day, it would turn into a "big 4" keeping Overlord and Mushoku Tensei, and adding the newcomers Eminence in Shadow and Ascendance of a Bookworm.
Yes, I'm saying Re:Zero, Shield Hero, and Kono Suba would all be dropped from the list. Face it, Kono Suba really isn't looked on as favorably today as it was back then. The other three had really excellent first seasons, but Re:Zero and Shield Hero kinda got lost in their 2nd seasons.
Those three really got killed by their anime adaptations. MT and Overlord are the only ones from among those three that are still universally praised (for the story quality, I know MT gets a lot of hate for the MC, but that's kinda by design), and in the case of Overlord that's in spite of the really bad CGI at the end of season 2. Overlord's story quality just happened to be good enough to survive the bad CG.

Big Isekai like mushoku are like movie entertainment
Eminence was like a UA-cam content entertainment
They are Two different types of entertainment and eminence killed it
Eminence is definitely a great it may not be movie great but it’s definitely great in its own different space like keeping you entertained like UA-cam content
It’s like comparing a UA-cam celebrity to a movie celebrity both are great but great in a different space that they work in

I feel like everyone forgot that Cid has the blood of the hero with how op he was from his past life. Him using Aurora's technique with the water in the anime was a cool touch on him being able to pick up and use the techniques of others.
A personal head canon of mine is that whatever god/goddess of that world implanted the knowledge of diablos, the curse and the cult in his subconscious. It works in their favor since he was already dead set on becoming op and fighting bad guys on the way. That way in the eyes of the viewers it feels like plot convenience. It helps that Cid was always aware of fantasy tropes so he has the greatest advantage with all that's left is styling on the haters.

Slime is way more into the political side of the world and how Rimuru is trying to build his country, and what things come in his way. Those things doesn't need to be strength based.

    • @xignum
      @xignum Рік тому +1

@@user-sd7df5rq7q Sure but the author goes out of his way to give Rimuru the most OP powers to make sure he doesn't struggle. Overlord is similar but they really focus on the political aspect and the lives of the natives instead of just powering up the main cast everytime they face a new opponent. Ainz's power level is constant throughout the story because that isn't the focus.
Slime's monsters are just humans with additional body parts and are bland with no culture of their own. They don't have difficulties living together and them being monsters are just for appearances sake for the most part. Rimuru's neighbors make alliances with him in the first season when he only has a goblin village with no power to defend it.

Hot take: MOST Isekai are trash, and Eminence in Shadow is NOT one of them.
I wasn't bored for a single second, and the story followed a completely different path as that of most isekai. Everything felt unique and original, even when it was making fun of common tropes. Cid/Shadow is just an amazing character, and you can't help but love him as a protagonist.
People need to admit that Eminence in Shadow isn't "good because it's bad" but because it's genuinely good.

It was a blast from beginning to end. I was engaged all the way through, not only with Cid but with all the other characters around him, their character development, their ambitions, and I'm excited to see where they go from here...
I also found it really cool how we see the world change and develop around them, through Gamma's Mitsugoshi Company, using Cid's knowledge of his past life to develop this world. In the beginning of the show, it looks like early 1800s since there were trains already. But by the end of the season, it starts to resemble early 1900s, in technology, food, and even in the way they dress. Seeing these subtle changes in the world around them as the story unfolds, and how the characters interact with it was really cool to see, and something I've never seen before.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. To me eminence in shadow was more enjoyable than slime, in a purely having fun kind of way, while slime definatly has better story/characters there are quite a lot of episodes that are very mediocre. Compare that to Eminence where i felt that there wasn't any episode except for the first one that didn't have me enjoying it the whole 20 minutes.

EiS is fun because the chuuni edgelord character is always played for jokes in recent anime. This is the first time I've seen them take a character who unapologetically embodies The Cringe down to their soul, and then give them the power, charisma, and awareness to back it all up. And most importantly, they actually make him look cool, despite showing us The Cringe behind the scenes.
And what makes it all better is that Cid believes the Cult of Diablos is fake, and that the Seven Shadows are just humouring his game. Cid himself doesn't take his own Shadow persona seriously - it's intentionally exaggerated and rehearsed, not because it's like a performance, but because it IS a performance, at least in his own mind. It just so happens that the script that he wrote is somehow miraculously completely factual, instead of pure fiction like he thinks it is.
