In this episode of Embroidery Hub, Willy will both auto and manually digitize the same design and embroider it onto two identical polo shirts to then compare the results side by side. He’ll also discuss the pros and cons of auto digitizing vs manual digitizing so you’ll know what designs you can embroider with little to no knowledge of digitizing or graphic design experience. So far on Embroidery Hub, we’ve shown you how to manually digitize patches, 3D puff designs and more; but in this episode, we'll show you just how easy it is to use the auto digitizing tool available on Chroma.
There are pros and cons to Chroma’s auto digitizing feature. To show you the main differences between auto and manual digitizing, we’ll go through both digitizing processes from start to finish, and then embroider our designs for a true, side by side comparison.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Chroma Digitizing software
USB
Mighty hoops
Cutaway stabilizer
Polo shirts
Ricoma MT-1501 embroidery machine
Auto digitizing is available on all Chroma tiers, including Inspire, Plus and Luxe. However, the types of available stitches, such as satin, complex fill and run stitches, vary based on the level of software you have.
To use auto-digitizing, simply import your design into Chroma, click on the prompt that appears on your screen and watch as the software automatically converts your file into a series of stitches that you can save as a DST file in seconds.
Auto-digitizing is a great option for beginners as it does not require you to have any graphic design experience. It's a quick, easy and efficient tool to use for simple designs that do not require a lot of precision. With that in mind, it shouldn’t be solely relied upon to create intricate designs.
For example, we noticed some key differences when comparing the auto-digitized design to the manually digitized design. The former showed signs of puckering and open gaps between the stitches, whereas the latter did not.
In this case, the puckering was caused by the angle of the stitches, stitch density and pull compensation that was automatically chosen by the software. When manually digitizing a file, you can adjust these settings to avoid puckering.
Auto-digitizing also doesn’t overlap stitches, which is the reason why there were gaps between the letters of the design, the front of the football helmet and the border.
In addition to the lack of overlapping stitches, the auto digitized design doesn’t look as professional compared to the one done manually. This is because it doesn’t have a clean border around the perimeter. To do this, you would have to manually create a satin-stitch appliqué effect around the design, which cannot be done automatically.
But don’t just take our word for it. Test it out yourself and be sure to comment down below and let us know which of the two designs you like best. And remember, while auto digitizing is a huge time saver, we recommend using it for simple designs or as a starter template to work off of. We highly suggest that you learn the basics of digitizing so you can make tweaks as necessary and offer your customers the best products possible. - Навчання та стиль
Each design is different and Auto Digitizing can be useful to get you started. Sometimes it comes out perfect. I generally auto digitize first and tear apart what isn’t right, and manually digitize those areas. Using both methods is the best, especially if you have a tricky or large design.
Hi there, thanks so much for watching. Auto-digitizing is great for those just starting out for sure!
I love watching this guy channel please make more😍

I never thought the designs would look so different. It's great to have the auto-digitizing feature but now i know it's limitations. Thanks!
Happy to help!
Manual digitizing is obviously the way to go, but learning Chroma Luxe is a huge undertaking. This video was fairly helpful, but leaves me looking for more info on how to actually do manual digitizing.
Glad this was helpful! Congrats on winning the giveaway by the way! Could you please send us a message through our Instagram so we can send you the prize? @ricomahq. Thank you!
Is this software is easy from wilcom E.2 for comparison of trims? because we need to do it manually in wilcom and I saw you that you're doing it by just doing some one or two clicks. Please explain it.
Hi there, if you wanted some tips/tricks please reach out to the service team so they can walk you through our Chroma software ---> ricoma.com/US/contact-us
How do you change the line width on Chroma Inspire?
Hi Jenny, You can do this by increasing the stitch density!
Any suggestions for a good digitizer company to use… we’re new to it and still subbing out our digitizing… I just feel like the one we’ve been using there’s been some good work but some of it just isn’t quite right and I feel could be better and have cleaner nicer lines…. It’s just been hit or miss with them

Can you pre-set the auto-digitizing? in that way you won't have different kind of stitching to edit, can it be more accurate?
Hi there, thanks so much for watching! Depending on the tier of Chroma that you have, you can select only certain parts of your design to be auto-digitized. Hope this helps!
@@ricomatv Hi well I have Chroma Luxe, can you show me how to assign what part of the design I want to be fill stitch and how I can assign what to be satin, that will help a lot or if you can make a short video about this very well explained please. Thanks
In this video we show you how to do that. You right click and pick the stitch type to convert to
Hello, I have Chroma Lux but the Magic Wand tool is turned off without being able to use it, HELP MEEE :D
Hi there! Please submit a ticket with the team so they can look into this ---> ricoma.com/US/support
Watching the auto and manual digitizing, I think there should be a way to combine both to save time and achieve a better result.
Yeah some people do auto first and then edit manually based on top of that
Goodnight friend. I made a purchase of an embroidery machine with you, but the chroma inspire does not have all the tools that you explain. what should I do.?
Hi there. Did you purchase your machine outside of the US?
@@ricomatv no. I am in Columbus oh
Our Chroma software comes in three different tiers: Inspire, Plus, and Luxe. Chroma Luxe, the tier being used in this video, is the highest tier and includes a variety of additional digitizing tools, file functions, and fonts. This tier is a great option if you anticipate receiving a lot of specialized embroidery requests.
How do you import your image I am struggling trying to find that out.
Hi there! Import a digitizing file?

Lamentamos mucho que esté teniendo esos problemas. ¿Qué tipo de tela estás usando? Hay diferentes factores que pueden causar saltos de puntada.
Is not possible to have the font of the RICOMA text the same as in the original design?
With Auto Digitizing?
@@ricomatv either way
You would have to digitize it manually cause auto digitized letters never really come out right. It's always best to manually digitize lettering just I'm case you get the client that has a custom font. Some have close fonts to what the client sends but most all customers want the font they sent in with the design. Here he manually digitized and auto digitized.
Does demo digitize so I can see quality before downloading?
Hi Leeto. You can also check out Chroma our digitizing software's UA-cam channel in which can help you.

Hi! Thanks for watching, we currently have manual digitizing videos but we will be sure to pass this on to the team!
hi... is this chroma luxe software free with Ricoma machine
Hi there! If you are in the US and make a machine purchase with us, the machine comes with Chroma.
I have the luxe but Im not getting the option to use the wand? It shows up on the side but Im not able to click on it and use it. Anyone else have this issue?
Click which stitch you would like, then select the wand. But make sure your art work is under it.
Perfect, got it, thanks!!
No matter how many times we click the wand and specific spot on the design, we never get the same result as you. It always makes a box over the whole design instead of the actual piece. Like yours highlights the helmet and changes it. Ours doesn't highlight until after the fact and just makes a box the length of the design.
Is there a step, we're missing?
Hi Angel! Are you following the steps that are shown here? ----->ricoma.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/9965183597331-Magic-Wand-In-Chroma
@@ricomatv Yeah, backdrop image (png) then the complex fill, then the wand is selectable, select the wand and go to click on the design and here's where ours always differs from yours.. Yours you're able to click on the spot and then right click off the design. As soon as we click on the design it spins (like loading and kinda takes a minute) then it gives us an entire box. So, you're able to right click off the the design and we're not. It highlights a box around the entire design instead of just the spot we click on, no matter which part of the design we click on. We're in luxe as well, we have checked for updates, consistently. But, just doesn't do what yours does. We've uninstalled and re-installed and still don't get the same option or outcome as you.
@ricomatv so... we just figured it out. It will not work with a png, only a jpg or jpeg.
Can you just import paths straight from Adobe Illustrator?
Hi! Unfortunately, this won't be possible.
Very New to Chroma but have experience with other types of Software. I found this a little difficult to follow trying to see what icons your choosing since you pointer is so small and moves too fast. I find myself replaying over and over trying to pick out details. But that's just me. Overall the content is good.
Thank you for the feedback, we truly appreciate it! We will be sure to pass this over to the team. In the meantime, have you checked out Chroma's UA-cam channel?
Why does your realistic view look so much nicer then mine? I have chroma lux

Hi there, we appreciate the feedback!
32 años de experiencia. No se puede decir que es digitalizacion manual si usaste alfabeto del programa. Como en todo trabajo, si quieres hacerlo bien, tomate tu tiempo.
Gracias por tu sugerencia, Javier!
I got a mt1501.. With chroma plus.. I have no idea what the basics are so none of these videos help me.. Even the basic webinars are not helping because I need the basics.. For example.. I import a picture... I put a few squares and dots to digitize but then I make a mistake on a dot.. I can't delete that dot without deleting all dots.. I have no clue how or what... Now I'm stuck until I find a way.. I've seen someone right click and delete dot.. That doesn't work for me and I don't know why... The crazy part is.. I taught myself to build computers but I can't figure out a simple deleting of a dot.. I need resources to start from baby steps so I can learn faster.. Other wise it's gonna take me hours upon hours to learn one thing by myself... These people talk way to fast..these videos are for people that have the basics.. Where is the videos for us new people..
Hi, we recommend attending your training that is included with your machine. Please log in to your customer portal and sign up for training.
Try the delete button or backspace. I have chroma the basic one and that’s how I remove it.
I am interested in school logos
Thanks for the suggestion!
I try to follow you , but your talking to fast and I’m trying to learn🤷🏻♀️
