    Andy Puddicombe tells us why meditation isn’t just about the lotus position and the difference between doing nothing and not doing.
    -
    Setting off to become a monk at the age of 22, Andy's meditation training took him all over the world, culminating with full ordination at a Tibetan Monastery in the Himalayas. Ten years later, he returned to the UK with the singular wish to demystify meditation, to make it accessible, relevant and beneficial to as many people as possible.
    He set up Headspace in 2009 with a mission to get as many people in the world as possible to take 10 minutes out of their day, to practice a simple and easy-to-learn meditation technique and experiences the scientifically proven benefits of meditation.

      @P ̀a̕ ͘r̸ a͠ n̵ o ̨i ̴d͠ ̧P ͞o͢ t͠ ̀a̛ t i know i may be a little late but ima say this anyway. meditation improves learning, cognitive function and ones ability to retain information. it also makes you better at socialising and makes you more calm. surely with these facts in consideration, meditation is one of the most important things to learn in school.

    This is not just about meditation, but also philosophy, having a different and more positive mindset, not focusing on the negative, and if meditation can help us do that, I am all for it.

    Andy is so direct in his 10 minute lessons at headspace. He tells you very simple instructions. Which we all obey. So this tells me that we should listen to advice given. And approach it with open heartedly. Do it without any excuses. Follow instructions, listen and think.

      our headspace simply is already there.
      we ought to choose or decide wether to let it be or not. I believe that in my case, my headspace is expanding and clarifying itself by just letting it be. gracias headspace. kind and gentile greetings from Mexico. Peace

    The end of this really spoke to me when referencing carrying baggage for a loooong time. I'm just back at work after a year away with anxiety and my issues are mainly if not all from the past. Headspace has been great so far and I hope to get the full app some time. Would love to work towards my own book or something about my experience and help others.

    Praying in the Holy Ghost is super powerful too. What you are showing people is part of the blessing of meditation! There is another layer of Spiritual mediation that you can experience and learn through the process of believing in Jesus and asking God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. When people pray in the Holy Ghost, they edify themselves in the their Spirit, Soul, and Physical body. Thank you for beginning this movement. God bless you!

    Some people say meditation is focusing on your breath and if your mind wanders, to bring it back to that. Some say its about focusing on just one thought, ignoring the other thoughts. And then this guys saying meditation is observing all thoughts from a distance. Im tired.

    • @manalitix8011
      @manalitix8011 6 років тому +2

      tired? trying too hard? c'mon.Think about it. Your brain rests only for a min in 24 hours including during sleep. And your brain processes stuff constantly. That is tiring not trying to give it a rest. That's called cognitive dissonance. Your escape from doing the right thing. Medidation will help you find the root cause and help yourself. For me all the options are right. You try to see what your mind is dealing with in the background. You then realize you are getting lost in that thought then you step back and concentrate on your breath then another thought and on and on.. Then you realize the emotions behind those thoughts. The more you work on observing the more you can give your mind a rest then in diffuse mode it will unwire some stuff the least expected time. just let it be.

      There are many different types of meditation. Transcendental meditation is about focusing on one word and repeating it over and over and over again until your monkey mind (mental chatter)gives up. Mindfulness meditation is more about keeping your focus on your breathing until the monkey mind gives up. The most important thing is the practice by itself. You can even have a walking meditation: really focussing on your feet touching the ground and feeling your muscles. Or eating meditation: really tasting every flavor and putting your mind completely into chewing and tasting. At the end of the day, they all teach the same thing, which is to live your life in the present moment and recognizing thought for what they are, just thoughts and nothing more. Most people live their lives in this situation. They're always thinking about the past (failures, traumas, or even good things and good moments) or the future. That's not inherently good or bad, but the problem is living your life inside your head, inside the 'monkey mind'.
      Personally speaking, i've tried many types of meditations, but the easiest one for me to practice is mindfulness meditation. Just focus on your breath and thats it.
      I would encourage you to also look for the Wim Hof breathing here on youtube. That would crack your mind open. Cheers :)

      There is many ways of doing meditation. One of the monks told me that is was up to 40 types of way of doing it. So whichever you've come across and heard people saying it. They aren't wrong about it. Just relaxed and let it pass like practising your meditation. 🙏😊

      @yellowboy3474 6 років тому +1

      What...

    • @Chebab-Chebab
      @Chebab-Chebab 6 років тому

      The negative aspects. How it isn't for everyone. How it triggers some people's PTSD and/or OCD. How people need to learn how to solve problems rather than to meditate on them. How mindful eating is a crock of shit. How it's a three-fold experience of meditation, exercise, and eating healthily yet only the first practice is peddled. How those who are advocates of mindfulness make the most money. How it's sold as a panacea which does exactly nothing. How it's vague. How exercise or gardening or listening to music have the same effect. How it's now a buzzword - diet Buddhism, if you will. How I have to waste three hours in a mindfulness meeting when I could be doing something useful.
