- Experience 5 days behind the levers as a UK plant operator, here are just some of the challenges we as operators face out on site on a daily basis.
Although operators can be on the same site for a number of months doing similar jobs day to day, these five days show you can be anywhere doing anything.
Thanks for watching, it’s much appreciated.

They call it driving through your arse. When using the bucket as a blade you can fell if you are level when traking it in .this fella is a bloody good driver
Absolutely perfect analogy mate 😂 love this comment, thanks for watching it’s much appreciated 👍
Nice driving mate, always tell a good machine driver when the groundworkers just need to lean on their shovels instead of using them. Keep up the good work.
I look after them don’t I 😉 there my eyes and ears it’s all a team effort at the end of the day. Appreciate the comment mate 😎
Been on ground 20odd years so know how valuable a decent machine driver is👍

You too mate, 22's gonna be a good one! Ps, picked up a couple good little techniques just in that one vid 👍
@@thomascarr1392 that means a lot mate, hopefully taking something positive away from the videos was one of my mains goals when I started the channel. Amazing 🙌
Hey buddy nice work using that bucket both ways to spread and level, would you use a blade if you had one for a large part of that levelling work ? What are your comments on brand of machine over different factors, power, specs, economy, noise, comfort and what not? Cheers from Australia !
Hello there, appreciate the comment and thanks for taking the time to watch the video.
Ideally a dozer would be perfect, but we just have to crack on with what we’ve got. It was really important that we get a really good compaction for this road, I’ve always found using the bucket that way helps a lot.
The case excavator in the video was a very used hired one, but they always seem to work brilliantly no matter the age/condition/hours.
Every brand has the pros and cons I’d love to do a video on that if people were interested in that 👍
Keep the content coming mate great videos. looks a decent machine that hydradig.
Appreciate the comment Ben, means a lot mate 🙌 JCB have made my life a lot easier with the Hydradig👌

Nice video and good skills too keep it up mate
Really appreciate this comment, thank you 🙌
Are you ever expected to get out and do any Labour work when you m’re a heavy machine operator?
Hi, sorry for the late reply. Il always get out the machine if someone needs a hand with something. It all depends on the site or type of work your carrying out though. Usually there’s no need for the operator to get out, so they can keep the excavator grafting 💪
Hello. Great video
Please I will love to learn how to operate one. I've been looking online for some place to learn . I'm in southampton. What advice do you have for me
Hello there, appreciate the comment thank you. If you search for your local training centre I’m sure they will advise you on how much training you will need and your options going forward to possibly securing a job. They may even be able to put you in touch with local plant hire companies. Good luck 👍
Hi mate what’s the best way to get into plant operating as everywhere is looking for experienced people and not beginners but you can’t become experienced if they don’t give you a chance thank you love the videos
There isn’t really a best or easy way, it just depends on yourself. What you may lack in experience you need to make up in other areas, just be a reliable, hard working, keen operator. Sometimes that means a lot more to companies than having an unreliable, lazy experience operator. Hope this helps mate, appreciate the comment 👍
@@lifebehindthelevers thankyou
Tidy lad
Appreciate it James 😎
Do you enjoy your job?
I am from india can i get this job
With the correct channels you can do whatever you dream to do 👌
What's the average day rate in UK for blue card digger driver 10 tonne plus? Iv been driving mini diggers and 7 tonne machine for 12 years on private jobs as well as ground working and steel frame construction. I'm sick of the graft and looking at becoming a skilled driver. Are blue card drivers strictly assigned to just a machine iswell. I.e are you expected to get out and get on the shovels or is that only with small companies? Thanks for the content.
Hello mate, great question but so hard to answer though.
Some companies allocate a machine to you as it tends to get looked after better that way. But i personally wouldn’t expect a machine until I’d put some time and graft in for that company.
Plant hire companies and agency’s will argue you aren’t insured to be out the machines and on the ground when your on hire through them in case you get injured in the process.
Day rates fluctuates so much, there’s too many factors to get into to put a rate into writing on here.
Sounds like you just need a change mate, you just need to put yourself out there see what and where works best for you, might not happen straight away but there’s plenty of good companies out there looking for good operators
Appreciate the comment and good luck mate, all the best. 👍
@@lifebehindthelevers thanks so much. I will get onto it in the new year.
