As a mechanic we of course get tool trucks and I always get jackets from them cause they look nice(they also sometimes have some dickies and/or carhartt jackets that have a design by them on em).Workwear will forever be a part of my style and now that I work as a mechanic it’s even more so part of my style.

As someone who got into work wear because I could just wear the same shit to the office, when I worked at one with a casual dress code, the data center, home, and out and I'm good. Plus most work wear, even the now lower quality than before Carhartt stuff, is going to last a lot longer than other types of clothes and I'm all for that. Then in the summer time I can just wear athletic shorts and I'm good to go again

I fell in love with styling CAT apparel while living in Missouri for about a year on the border of KC. Found a larger respect for blue collar workers and love to incorporate that “feeling” into outfits paired with modern 1of1 items.
Also the black and yellow color scheme that many of the industrial machine companies use makes for a really good pairing with grays as well as most denim

My Dickies jeans are still alive. They were super expensive for the fam because we live in a 3rd world country and holy cow were they worth it. I'm still wearing them. I wear them for work which is ornamental plant farming so they've gone through A LOT.
The Dickies jeans I have are nearing two decades of life and still don't look close to giving up.

I love workwear! Growing up as sons of immigrants my father worked construction and when I could I’d go with him I would for extra money. When I got into fashion in high school I ended up going in the workwear route because my closet was already based around it, just had to refine it!

For me workwear became a fashion thing when skaters started adopting it. It's comfortable, durable and kind of stylish wich makes it perfect for skating. Then the rest of the world took skater fashion and called it streetwear. So now that's a thing. I'm just glad that brands like Carhartt and Dickies noticed that skaters were adopting that style and decided to invest in the community that comes with it.

Workwear’s affordability and accessibility is also something that makes it a really great style. Since they’re made for the everyday blue collar worker, you can find it almost anywhere and it won’t cost a lot for decent quality.

I shoot for that Daniel Craig lite classic style when dressing “up” and wear my work clothes when dressing “down” (welder->construction manager) and always feel better about buying more work wear style attire simply for the fact that I’ve had many of my items for years of hard work and even some handed down from father and GRANDfather and they’re still as durable as ever :)

People in the trades don't really appreciate how mainstream workwear has become. It means the products staples they rely on for ACTUAL WORK are always out of stock, and the quality of those products have drastically lowered. Not to mention the price has increased due to high demand. Take doc martens for example - even just ten years ago they were solidly built, but nowadays if you actually cut the boot in half, you'll see just how shitty the boot is made. Dickies, Levi's, carhartt, they're all getting worse because more people jump on them. I'm not saying nobody but tradesman should be wearing workwear, but it's place in fashion affects the people who need workwear the most, and not in a good way.

    • @THECASUALco

First: create a mood board of all your inspirations and influences.
Second: put together the twenty best looks out of 100 inspirations
Third: whittle it down to 5. And choose up two three garments you would like to make and focus solely on them.
Fourth: once you’ve done that. STOP! And start researching your TRUE customer profile. Find out what’s needed and who you think could possibly buy.
5th: create an apparatus where those individuals will listen when you finally have a product to show. (OST people don’t know this but many of their favorite fashion designers had a huge networking apparatus before they even started selling clothes)
6th: create “the look” and begin the branding process.
      7th: start designing the clothes.
8th: go back and design again
      9th: and again
10th: make a ROUGH sample using cheaper materials than the final version
11th: fix errors and improve design
12th: do the same with other pieces
      13th: make your final samples
14th: Do a full professional looking look book.
15th: campaign for about 3-12 months or until you’ve garnered about 2000~3000 points of interest I.e. interests from buyers, boutiques, and individuals.
(Points of interest are NOT equal!
Buyers = 3pts, Boutiques = 2, individuals = 1. So if you only get individuals you need all 2000-3000 potentials.
It’s highly likely you’ll have more individuals than anything else)
16: DONT produce ANYTHING until you have the POINTS!!! Keep digging until you have enough pts to mitigate any financial issues UNLESS someone offers a deal you can’t refuse.
      17: Keep grinding
      18: Produce when ready.
It should take about a year and some change to do all those things and that’s just the beginning.

The problem with these workwear brands if bought in the US is that sizing is DRASTICALLY different than Japan’s exclusive line! I just bought a pair of Carhartt overalls women’s size small (I’m a guy! 5’5” 140lbs). A standard small from these brands usually fit more like a Large! So the Japanese lines are definitely sought after for guys with my body type. Even though oversized is a thing these days, the US sizing for these workwear brands is still ridiculous!

My guy, you say you don't partake in workwear - but arguably wearing an overshirt over a t-shirt is workwear styling! Think about shirt jackets, overshirts & chore coats over a t-shirt. It could be argued that wearing a larger button up shirt over a t-shirt has workwear influences! And I know Yohji has produced plenty of workwear influenced pieces across his lines.

    • @THECASUALco
      @THECASUALco  Рік тому +5

It could be argued. Yes. But I’m not gonna perpetrate like I’m all about workwear in it’s purist form because that would be a bit fake. Sure Yohji has produced items that are inspired by workwear (I have some of those pieces!) but we don’t consider those the essence of the style or the genre. I just don’t want to be considered a fake advocate but I see your point.

This is probably gonna be an unpopular point but I'm gonna throw it anyway. It's manly.
From looking at old pics of our forefathers to movies and TV. You never see the tough guy dressed in technical wear, couture fashion or like a woman. They're wearing jeans or cargo pants, t-shirt or traditional work button up, maybe a mariners sweater or sweat shirt, work boots or cowboy boots. Look at TWD, The Last of Us, Yellowstone, SOA. All variations on traditional or heritage clothing. All fashion influence shows. You don't see people dressing like comedy characters, drama characters. They dress like men.
Unfortunately for them, being a man doesn't come from cosplaying the ones you see on TV. Put your boots on and come work with me. Give every dime to your wife and kids. Be there for them when it's good and bad. Love them and treasure everything about them. Take responsibility for them and provide what they need, including protection. Clothes don't make you a man. Actions make you a man.

I just saw a “get ready with me” video that was so funny. A well off suburban kid(18-21 years old)clearly in his parents house who puts on all this really weathered work wear like completely stained and ripped.
I’m all for wearing whatever you want but this is borderline like dressing up in a cop’s uniform. You’re telling people that you’re living and working in a certain way by what you wear. I hate trends for this reason because it changes fashion into more of a costume than an expression of yourself.
I’m old school and think your clothes should tell a stranger something about you. It should tell people something like the music you like or what you do for work or hobbies.
    Express yourself not someone else.
