The LCD influence is obvious, but I think that the one reference point everyone in the comments is missing is the debut Calvin Harris album, I Created Disco - the I Destroyed Disco track is just a dead giveaway. Same dance-punk stylings, same indie sleaze, lots of bangers, but also quite messy. Honestly, the best approach for The Dare would be to continue producing for bigger artists. Guess made him a promising upandcomer in the industry, it’d be smart to work from within to bring this style back in fashion, only to return later with a more refined solo effort.
Dude, spot on! THE most obvious song comparison in the world to me is the Dare's "Girls" and CH's "the Girls". I just hope he doesn't follow in Mr. Harris' path and lose his voice
This was my exact thought. The album is pretty much a modern response to ICD. I don't know if it's a popular opinion but I really enjoyed the latter so listening to The Dare does at least make me feel nostalgic.
i thought the exact same thing the first time i heard it ! it instantly reminded me of i created disco, only Calvin Harris did it much better in my opinion

I’m kinda mixed on this record cus I find it a lot of fun but it also feels like I am listening to a different version of the same song for a lot of it. I think The Dare should switch up his sound a bit for whatever his next project is. All Night is my favorite!
It's more derivative of Calvin Harris' I Created Disco (there's even a song called I Destroyed Disco here) than LCD Soundsystem (ok, Harris aimed at James Murphy back then as well). I see it as what would have happened if Calvin Harris continued on that path instead of becoming a mainstream pop behemoth. I like it a lot and would have given it a 7 😊

I just hope with this resurgence of dance punk that the dare seems to have started, that De Lux - Love Is Hard Work gets attention. A crazy good underrated 29 min dance track. They seem to never tour and I live in Ohio 😢

@@spencerrex2114 I’m probably not the best at explaining this, but I think Laufey brands herself as a jazz revivalist. She takes a lot of inspiration from mid-century jazz/pop (which isn’t a problem) but her saying that she is reviving jazz rubs a lot of people the wrong way, since jazz never died.
@@bassfishbone i don’t feel like Laufey says this as much as she simply wears her affinity for jazz on her sleeve.
