Many people hated the Millennium Edition because it looked dated back then. I personally don't mind it, but not necessarily my favorite. Now you should do a video of Windows XP Computer cuz that's easily the most popular Microsoft software ever
It didn’t really look dated at the time. It’s underlying architecture was incredibly dated at the time, however, being based on DOS. It’s successor, Windows XP, was based on Windows NT, like 2000 and NT itself. This made XP far more stable and reliable than ME.
Windoes ME was hated bcs the instability of it. Windows 2000 in conparison was a very stable operating system, reason for it is the dos kernel inside of windoes me, windows 2000 used the nt kernel. Since Windows XP, the NT kernel is an integral part of windows to this day
Oh man. My neighbors had a PC with Windows ME. A throwaway budget build from one of our local PC builders. That thing was a POS. Blue screened all the time. Barely met minimum system requirements for the OS, so when we played The Sims on it, it was quite the slideshow.
My all time favorite Windows OSs: Windows 95 Windows XP Windows 8.1 Huge fan of the OS user interfaces of these. I didn’t enjoy the sounds of Windows XP, so I took the recordings of those sounds from my old a f IBM Aptiva with Windows 95, and recreated them for my Sony Vaio with Windows XP. XP was so dang good, & awesome, that it also gave you the option to put the OS into classic throwback 90s-2000 mode. Windows 95 was quite unstable, but opened the door for me to the world of computers. Windows 8.1, well…. I just loved it for no significant reason. It was very stable, also had some beautiful sounds, and played nice to me, and the peripherals.
don't delete the network folder or aol won't go back step 5 connecting to the internet. upgraded to windows xp for $100 shortly after buying because i couldn't figure out how to restore the network which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. other than that i didn't have any issues with the operating system. i found the computer at a local pawnshop for $500. came with mouse, keyboard, and a printer way back in year 2000. it was a solid pc until going through hurricane katrina. wound up selling the windows xp upgrade for $80 on ebay so it wasn't a total loss.
I have Windows Millennium on a Pentium IV and I can tell you: 1. All ms-dos games that are not speed sensitive to CPU run perfectly. The best video cards for Ms-dos compatibility are the Fx series from GeForce, for sound you need an Aureal Vortex 2, Sound Blaster Live, Audigy 1 or to have a pentium IV motherboard with an ISA slot. 2. Windows Me does not blue screen when you remove the CD, usb stick or floppy while it is being read. 3. It has wireless keyboard and mouse support. 4. The location of a driver is saved. 5. The usb stick does not need a driver. 6. I do not recommend the VDM drivers because there is no longer support for sound in ms-dos, but with VDM you can use advanced stand by functions (suspend to ram). 7. Any usb joystick does not need driver. For Ms-Dos you need a joystick connected to the game port. 8. Windows Me is the most stable, I tested it after installing many programs and games without restarting and it didn't crash. 9. If I had to choose another retro operating system, it would be Windows 95 and in no case Windows 98.
ME was even more solid than 98SE, if you knew most of 9x's arhitecture quirks. Like hell, I've been punished by lots of people when I claimed I had a PC that ran ME stable (no crashes). Some Epox 3VCM mobo w/ a 1.1GHz Coppermine, Radeon 7500 GPU, 768MB of RAM and all the bells and whistles I could get that mobo to run. Not sure if I had Omega or standard Radeon drivers on it though, but it was otherwise the most stable and speedy machine I've ever built. The second close one would of course be an ABIT BE6-II build w/ P3 650MHz, 512MB worth of RAM, a GF4 Ti4200 and dualbooting 98SE + XP SP3.
Welp, Windows ME is the only version I've ever seen the Device Manager literally disappear. Hell, the interface was still there, but somehow NOTHING showed up. How you gonna manage that turd?
All classic Windows always have place in my heart and memories
