I find it easiest to pin the train while the bride stands in the gown, while it is on a dressform, or while it is hanging at a height that approximates the bride's height.
I love this. Learned this in high school Home Ec and use it often. Works beautifully but I also clip them if I need to separate layers for bustling. I also use this chain for bustle hoops when possible.
By accident I saw this video . I needed the instructions to do the connections between each layer! Thank you! I am hemming a wedding dress for the first time for a friend who needs all the free help she can get. I want to be sure I give her as much a professional finish as I can. You suggesting adding more tacks than first bought is a great extra.
Thank you so much. This is very fortuitous as today I have to do this on a gown. So helpful. I love your hand sewing, your knowledge is extraordinary and your delivery is so professional as well as calm. So appreciative!
You always do such a tremendous job with your videos. Thank you so much- I always enjoy watching your technics and your work is superior! So glad I found your channel.
I’m just about to shorten a very long train with a huge top layer of tulle was thinking I’d tack it all before cutting just like this! You reconfirm my logical thinking 💋
My friend's dress is white underneath with black tool and lace on top. She also has a detachable train thing is there are no eyes or loops for the train to attach to. What do I do?? Chasing her dreams whatever she
Hello. I'm new to your channel, but the videos that I have watched have been very helpful. I think your channel trailer is very clever. Anyway, I've been sewing for a few years now (by that, I mean about 7), and I want to get a part time job at a local bridal boutique (that also does some homecoming and prom dress making), in a few months. I'm 15 years old, and I want to start the job when I turn 16. Do you think that they would let a 16 year old work at a bridal boutique, and if so, what are things I can do to prepare myself and get the job?
Fantastic tutorial! Question for you tho: My first “chain” always ends up with a little bit of thread before it becomes a chain. It’s like the first chain just doesn’t get tightened enough at first. How can I do this so the chain starts right at the fabric? TIA!
Thanks so much for all the great inforcation and tips and tricks. I have a question on this. I understand how this is stable in a seam but is there something you do on the rest of the tacks that do not have seams. how do you do it without it tearing the tulle or puckering it?
I put it where ever it is needed. If it lands on seams, that's a bonus! I'm definitely going to sew it with the layers pulled flat, not puckered. I def won't tear the tulle. Lol & I can stitch loosely to give it wiggle room.
Can you show us how do you lay dress out to hem when all you need is to hem front and not the train. Do you cut while it’s hanging or I just don’t get it. I have a dress to hem front only and the top layer is 198 inches from side seam to side seam. Less on 2 and 3 layer. But omg I’m going to trim 1 1/2 inches directly on front and go to each side seam down to nothing. There’s so much fabric how do you lay it out to trim the hem?
Have you found tho that these tacks hinder the train when bustling? I will sometimes clip the side seam tacks simply because the bustle looks so much more cohesive when pulled up. I will also sometimes clip the back center tack if I'm separating the bustle into two separate points. (Under satin, top lace) But I have used clear plastic snaps instead of tacks so they can unsnap and bustle 😊😊😊
thank you for this video - it’s so helpful and clear and i love your explanations!! for a multi layer multi level illusion train, will i need to tack both at the end of the train as well as on the satin layer? it’s not being bustled and i just want to clean up the train. do you have any tips for keeping the layers straight at the points where there isn’t a seam? thanks in advance!
Yes, just trim them off. I do warn brides, though... the eyelash is technically considered desirable. If you hate it, you hate it, but just know you are kinda downgrading your lace when you trim it off. The lace supervisors in the skybox will judge you. Lol
Bridal Sewing Techniques thank you so much :) are they?? I hate them so much haha, they are making me hate my whole dress the more I look at them. Ahh ok so my seamstress will just cut them off? I was thinking of doing it myself to save a bit of money as it’s a big train ( sorry skybox supervisors) lol x
No, we never use weights. You have to let the dress out. When it is too tight, presents horizontal wrinkles, & doesn't drape, the hips need to be let out.
How can I attach a wrist loop to my train? My train comes to a point so I feel a bustle will look very odd, and the lace and front are one appliqué so I can’t have it taken up or hemmed so I need to carry that excess length. After chain tacking the seams will it be easy to add a wrist loop?
The long, pointed trains are usually getting two traditional bustles, stacked onto each other. It evens up the look of the train. I don't have a video on wrist bustles. They are very much out of favor right now. By receptions time, you are essentially hooking some very filthy material to your wrist & taking people out with it when you hug them. Eitger that, or you have to walk around not using that hand. Either way, brides agree it looks very pretty, but the practicality side of it is just not there.
Does the tacking affect how the bustle? I have a difficult time getting the bustle to drape nicely. Sometimes I’ve replaced the tacks with small clear snaps, but that’s a lot of trouble.
No. The upholstery thread is pretty slick. I link to it in the description & on my website. It is my fave kind. It twists much less than other brands I have tried. It also has much less drag than, say, its cotton rivals.

Thank you! The slow-motion portion was particularly helpful...Thanks for all your hard work!
Thank you!! :D
Thank you so much for this video! I've been wondering how to do this and what it's called. You've answered all my questions and then some!
I love this. Learned this in high school Home Ec and use it often. Works beautifully but I also clip them if I need to separate layers for bustling. I also use this chain for bustle hoops when possible.
When I clip them for a multi-layered bustle, I try to replace them with clear snaps so that the train can still be stabilized while down.
Thanks you for sharing!!!! You are definitely the best at showing how to do the hardest sewing techniques!!
I work as a couturier's apprentice and I must say, your hand work is INCREDIBLE. 😍😍😍
Why, thank you. ❤✂️🧵❤

You just have to push it all the way down with your nail. Anchor your fabric to something really well. That helps too-- if it's not bouncing around.

Thank you!!.. this is very helpful.. question… how to bustle this type of train??
Search illusion train bustle in my video library
@@BridalSewing thank you ♥️
Is there a minimum number of tacks around the train that you'd recommend?

Do you have a way to remove a glued lace applicea from the train before you tack layers.
This is better suited for a question accompanied by a picture in my instagram DMs @BridalSewing

Yes, just tack the satin layer intermittently.
How long does the hypo cement take to dry?
Does it ever cause the layers to stick where they shouldn't?
Just a minute or two. I'm just mindful of not over-applying & making sure layers aren't touching for a few minutes.
Could I ask you a question if you don’t mind? How do I remove eyelashes from the lace on the hem of my dress? Can I just cut them off? Thank you x
Yes, just trim them off.
I do warn brides, though... the eyelash is technically considered desirable. If you hate it, you hate it, but just know you are kinda downgrading your lace when you trim it off. The lace supervisors in the skybox will judge you. Lol

It is a simple trim. :D
U are amazing 👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯
Hi. Do you know how I can fix bunching/wrinkles at the hips in a trumpet wedding dress? Will weights work? Thank you.
No, we never use weights. You have to let the dress out. When it is too tight, presents horizontal wrinkles, & doesn't drape, the hips need to be let out.

you make it look so easy but i only have one dress 😭
How would you bustle a train with layers ??
I have a vid of that. Go to my uploads and look for how to bustle an illusion train.
