    Perfect! I just got a dress with this exact problem and didn't trust myself to shorten the hem like this. You give me the courage to go with this process. THANK YOU SO MUCH! The bride will be so thrilled her dress will not be 1 1/2" too long in front! YAY You are my new hero

    I like the cut through 6 layers. I usually give the options to the bride of how she prefers the hem. In most cases they choose to keep hanging appliqués at the bottom of the hem, if are pieces that can't be cut in between. I really like how you finished those cut ends! Very good idea! Thank you for sharing!

    Will the lace and netting not fray? Does it need to be oversewn at the edge. My daughters dress is very simular.

      Good question. Lace and netting don't usually fray. If the lace threads get fuzzy, anchor them with clear washable glue.
