I am currently a student teacher and my cooperating teacher uses the Word their Way system and I learned about it in college, and love it! I think all of your students' writing is great because over the year you will be able to see progress and you can show their parents their writing during conferences. Love this video, so helpful!

I recently stumbled upon your videos. I'm a 6th-grade teacher in Northern California. I started using word study in my room today and I'll be implementing some of your other ideas as well. Thank you for taking the time to make your videos; I have found them to be a tremendous help.

I agree with a former poster, Susan M, it would be great to see a DITL. I'm a visual, as well as an aural, learner. I'm learning so much from you that I actually have a desire to go back into education. Thank you!

Thank you so much for all of the valuable information and ideas. I would like to know more about how you differentiate the word study portion of your reader's/writer's block.

Love your videos! I want to be a teacher and next year I'll be a freshman in college! Do you think you could make a video about your college experience (as an education major) or the process of becoming a teacher and how it went for you? I would LOVE to hear all about it ☺️

I think I would have been a better reader if I had a teacher in elementary school that taught me to take notes and write about what I read in a journal.... your doing great thanks for sharing your ideas😁

I loved this video. I wish I had 2 hours, I only get 94 mins for ELA so it is nearly impossible to incorporate word study. Could you make a video showing a conference including the data binder?

You're lucky that you have that choice of teaching small groups for reading. In my district we don't have that option. We even have to SAY certain things in our lessons. I feel like a robot sometimes!

Just FYI, when you're showing us your Reader Response Yellow pages- "Proofread" is spelled incorrectly. Sorry I don't mean to start negative. This has been the MOST USEFUL video I have seen to help me get ready to take on Reading Writing Workshop. I love your ideas and structure and wrote almost everything down. THANKS so much!!!

By the way I am enjoying your videos, being a student teacher I feel that all of your video help me a lot with inspiration for my own teaching! Thank you from Elgin, Illinois!

Jewels Caliper I'd like to know this too. We just started small groups this year in 4th grade and I've not gotten answers to this from people in my district. We do DRAs, but they aren't the best for grouping.

  • @adeolaadegabi8639

What are the other students doing when you have a small group that you're working with? Also, is there a reason you do writing before reading, or is that just your preference? My district literacy model puts reading before writing instruction.
