It could’ve been better but I feel Super Princess Peach was still neat in its own way and I would love to see Perry return

This game was my first DS game, and a big part of my childhood. I was confused when everyone was saying Princess Peach Showtime is going to be Peach’s first leading role in a game when Super Princess Peach was released around 2005.
Yeah, I honestly think even Nintendo forgot about Super Princess Peach somehow, lol.
People seem to forget that Princess Peach: Showtime! Is the second game where Peach is the Star of the game.
I'm like 98% sure you HAVE TO 100% in order to beat the game at all
You gotta rescue all three Toads in every single level in order to face Bowser
There are three stages after the boss for each area after you complete the game the first time. You still have to beat the game twice in order to 100% it, seemingly.

@@DJCheese77 - Yeah. Good job. I should have been clearer about that aspect. I think it's fine to miss a music box and still clear the game the first time, but not a Toad.
I'd love to see this get a remake one day
Me too. With Mario vs Donkey Kong having been remade and princess peach showtime coming this March, it would be nice to bring back that game to the switch.

At the time when I tried it I really liked the title, I just felt that Mario's kidnapping was a bit exaggerated, and another thing I would have liked was to see Toadette Kidnapped, and I would also like to see Future an official art by Daisy & Rosalina Tied up like what happened to Mario
Maybe one day, that’ll probably happen.
I feel like that could have potential, I hope that they dare to do it and don't get stuck with the same characters
@@PrincessRuth097 Yeah, it would be great if they gave Daisy, Rosalina, or Waluigi their own games one day. At least when they put Daisy in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, that was in the right direction.
I’ve been playing it the past week and it’s really good. Some good level design and gorgeous sprite art.
Totally. I recommend it for anyone who enjoyed Yoshi's Island and Kirby games. Starfy games can be pretty good, too.
I hope this becomes a new series.
We have a good number of Retro Reviews before this one! This is just my personal first as a content creator for GameXplain.
You know, I've never played this game before. I never even knew existed at the time. And i'm excited for the new one that's coming out
I remember this game! My favourite feature was the fact that you could pick up some enemies. I would get excited when a stage featured small spaces in between objects : I would "harvest" as many enemies as I could and drop them in that space, until there were so many enemies on top of one another there that their sprites would blend into each other and the game couldn't keep up. I would watch, satisfied, "water" them like crops with Peach's tears, then eventually kill them all and move on to the next stage. Good times before the cozy games boom!
Super Princess Peach really was a GOOD charming Game💖
I remember really liking the boss theme and the minigame before fighting King Boo. I haven't played it since I was 9, and I'm 23 now.
I played through it for the first time last year. It is definitely and underrated gem. The bosses are unique and fun and the level design feels a little more open and exploratory compared to a traditional 2D Mario Platformer. Would definitely consider checking it out if you haven’t

This was actually one of my favorite games on the DS, I love nintendo platformers and I was glad thy made one with Peach as the main character.
Such a charming and underrated game that gets an undeserved bad rap (even though Peach has full control of her emotions).

I’m surprised I never played this one as a kid, this was definitely my era. It’s giving me early Mario and Luigi vibes, as well as yoshis island vibes, both of which are favorites of mine. This game looks awesome

Graphics don't matter as long as a game is fun and things are recognizable

It was pretty good in the context that we hadn’t had a proper new Mario platformer in a while back then (2005), and it was influenced by Mario 2/USA just a few years after it had benefited from a critical reappraisal thanks to Super Mario Advance. It’s indeed pretty interesting to play it from the perspective of a Starfy spin-off as it is very close to these games.
Your first video back from that stupid hacker, keep the videos going guys, I'm looking forward to Peach's new adventure when it comes out (love the mermaid outfit Peach, yes)

Maybe, but there's still plenty of post-game content. And like it's explained in the video, you can miss a Toad but go back to get that one specifically without completing the stage again.

What about the mic mini games?
I'm fine with that because the collectibles are more secret than the Toads in Super Princess Peach and this trope of needing 100% completion to face the final boss is more common in Kirby games which makes me more expectant of that compared to Mario games which rarely needs any high amount of percent to finish the game@@batmanbud2
"Super Princess Peach" is my 2nd favorite DS game, and my favorite "2D platformer" game. I give it 10/10!😊

Cool new intro
It's actually the Paper Mario intro, but because of its content and parallels with the theatrical theme of Princess Peach: Showtime!, we decided this one fits well enough! It does however have a new jingle and it will be the same one used for upcoming Paper Mario videos.

The music is so good, isn't it? I wish it were more crisp, because the compositions are bangers.
Iirc she had a game before, second game lol, but yeah it has been a while. Apparently this one has some unique bosses compared to the first game and some Mario games.
I grew up with this game and loved it. So much so that it's still one of my favorite games ever hehe. Just really love the visuals, music and location a lot. It's all so very cozy
Fun fact: The Koopalings were originally going to make a reappearance in this game as bosses too but were cut at some point during development. They each have a fair amount of finished sprite animations too.
I wonder how different the game would have felt with their inclusion tbh.

Awesome! Yep, just be wary of the controls and keep in mind that you eventually will need all of the Toads to beat the game the first time.

Coming off the 3ds puzzle piece theme I knew there was a new Peach game coming out because all the 3DS puzzle pieces Nintendo were re-releasing them either through HD or remasters.
There were a few puzzle pieces left that never got released because how they ended the 3DS in favor for the Switch coming out. The puzzle piece I'm talking about is the Princess Starlet puzzle set where they have all the Mario iconic princesses together.
Once they gave us that I knew they were working on a new game & I expected it was suppose to come out on the 3DS but we all know how Nintendo combined both their handheld dev teams into one building with the console teams as a new way to work together for the future of the company that we couldn't get those remaining puzzle pieces ported to the 3ds.

Only downside of SPP is that it's short and you have to get all three toads in every single level, besides that, it's godtier

Nope! Super Princess Peach was, but it's completely unrelated to Princess Peach: Showtime! other than that Peach is the star of both games.
It's certainly not a bad game, and it really stands out from other Mario games where Peach is playable. The only flaw is that once you've collected everything, you get an unlimited Vibe Gauge so you can use her emotions as long as you want, but you won't really need them anymore outside of just having fun.
I’m playing it right now. It’s a pretty fun game. I’m not entirely contempt with the gameplay physics and mechanics and level designs are questionable sometimes. Now realizing I have to collect all the toads sounds like a chore to me but at the same time I want to truly beat the game 🫠 Maybe my mistake were my expectations thinking it would flow like a super Mario bros game with peach gameplay but Super Princess Peach can still be a fun game if you want something different.

I do wonder why this game was never released on the Wii U eshop back then. Yoshi's Island DS and Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 was on there, and it just feels like a missed opportunity for Nintendo to not recognize it for the shop.

they should have just given super princess peach a sequel or remake imo. while princess peach showtime is uh interesting to say the least, idk whether I really want to play it. super princess peach on the other hand seems more interesting to me i think. i played a little of Super princess peach on a emulator, i think it was fun, the problem was that it was laggy, but that's likely because i tried playing with with a mobile ds emulator... i don't have the game..

OMG is Super Princess Peach on Nintendo DS already a retro game? It's just only a 19 years old game but can't believe it turns 20 freaking years old game in next year 2025 and I've played Super Princess Peach with my bigsister's daughter when I was a teenager and she was a kid and she's still a kid but when i'm thinking Super Princess Peach is 19 years old game and Nintendo DS was my first ever console what I've got and played in my childhood only as a 6 years old kid so that makes me to feel an old. Gotta say Super Princess is that good 2D platformer game on DS sometimes it feels almost better than 2D Super Mario platformer. Princess Peach is so beautiful and surprisilly powerful character and I still remember it when Peach got hurts, she started crying so loud and that makes me to feel bad for her. Because I really like Princess Peach and 2D platformer games I'll give 8/10 points for Super Princess Peach. Can't wait for this march's coming Princess Peach Showtime game, it's so a great Princess Peach's getting her own game on Nintendo Switch since Super Princess Peach on DS 2005, it's a big honor and respect for Super Princess old age there's coming a new Princess Peach game, i'm so excited for Princess Peach Showtime. The game was good, of course it wasn't perfect, or wasn't Super Mario Bros levels of quality, but it was promising, and definitely deserved more. It was/is truly underrated

It was a very fun game. The level designs, and the soundtrack were all good. The game felt better than the New Super Mario Bros. Series in my opinion.

As a teen I thought super princess peach looked great, but when I tried to play it, I felt it was incredibly boring. As an adult, I tried playing it again a few years ago, just to test myself. I never fully understood why I didn't like it as a teen.
The problem in my opinion is the pace, the movement (so slow), the easy yet tedious platforming... but as an adult, something else I noticed is how incredibly sexist the game is, even for its time.
Super princess peach is a game made by old men, for little girls. It's obvious that's its target demographic. And you can see how little those guys knew about girls. They could only think about every possible stereotype. What does the game shows? Flowers, pink, emotions (they based the entire game around emotions XD, the balls XD), they kept the game slow and easy.
I hope that the new Peach game is quite different. The theme seems to be "you can be whatever you want"; which is not completely acurate but I find it a very good message compared to the one in Super princess peach ("you are a girl, you feel so much stuff" or something along those lines).
As a teen I didn't like Super princess peach. As an adult, I moderately despise it.

Why the Paper Mario-themed intro lol?
Most of our Retro Reviews had special openings, and while there is not one for Peach spin-offs, the Paper Mario opening made sense because of the setting of Peach's Castle and similarity with Showtime!'s stage props and the jingle feels like something related to Peach. We discussed it internally and realised it could go either way.

The Paper Mario intro takes place in Peach's Castle and is reminiscent of stage props like in Princess Peach: Showtime!, so we figured it could be that or just the default magnifying lens. Even the new jingle works for this situation, even though I wrote it with The Thousand-Year Door in mind. Most of our Retro Reviews (except Pilotwings 64) had special intros.

1st princess peach game and they give her crying, anger, sadness, and happiness as her powers 😂. No wonder it was called sexist.
Bowser's minions were affected first, and they were out of control. Peach was one of the only characters not falling under the influence that way and instead became fully in control when she crossed into the the heat of it. Overall, it just seemed to me personally like a creative idea to explore rather than implying anything when I first played it in both Japanese in 2005 and English in 2006.

Surprised that there is not one mention here of the fact that Peach finally got her own game, but that she has to be emotional (typical sexist/misogynistic portrayal of women) in order to do well and complete it! That's been the whole issue since the game came out and this video makes no mention of it whatsoever!

Super Princess Peach is the implied 'first game' in the video title, hence the whole review of it. The two Peach games don't relate to each other in any way.
I like this game, but if I have one gripe it’s probably the fact that a female protagonist using her emotions to tackle challenges feels like a pretty dated concept.

The one negative thing I could say about this game is that I think it’s kind of poor taste that for Princess Peach’s first adventure, they decided to design it about emotions as if emotions are the only thing that girls are known for. It feels like a stereotype.
The game has it’s qualities like that charming art style but the whole concept of emotions doesn’t seem to have aged well. It’s really weird going back to play this game today in a world where female representation is trying to move away from those stereotypes.
I can understand that. Though at the very least it’s not just Peach being emotional in this game, almost every enemy in the game is affected by the vibe scepter, (including Bowser), and Peach is the only character in the entire game who’s emotions are 100% under her control.

@@MrBsosa - You are fully correct, except that Perry and Toadsworth also were unaffected. Peach actually demonstrated the greatest control, never once changing emotion randomly and able to relax at a moment's notice. That's impressive.
