As an ex-mormon and former veil worker, I can confirm that she is speaking the truth.
Former veil worker? Damn that's hardcore
The blood oaths were what bothered me the most about the endowment ceremony.
Former ordinance worker here, agreed!
@@SteveSmith-os5bs they removed those pretty quick once it leaked. Yet the Temple ordinances are supposedly unchanging.
@@SteveSmith-os5bs Blood Oaths were horrible. I thought the LDS Church got taken over by cult leader Charles Manson. .....I also hated how they touch parts of you during you first time through. I understand that has changed too because of all the complaints.
If people resort to making personal insults or abusive comments it merely shows they can't win the argument
@@Coastal1931 That's not Ex-Mo-Lex. It's Tim. But maybe if you're lucky, he'll pass along the message.
@@Coastal1931 How about you take a course on comparative theology then, hotshot? And stop trying to harass youtubers. You being such an authority and all...
@@Coastal1931And that right there is part of the problem. The attitude that you are perfectly fine with someone leaving the church but only if they do not talk openly about it. The door swings both ways. I could say I have no problem with mormons being members of the church only as long as they don't talk about it and you'd probably find that very offensive. If you're going to be true believing member member of any religion. You have to face the fact that not everybody is going to a positive experience in that religion and if they lose faith then they every right to talk about it.
*raising their voice, resorting to insults or violence. All the best regards to you 🙏
@@Coastal1931 The real question is, why are you even on this site to begin with? As an ex mormon myself, I know for a fact that mormons are commanded to stay away from so called anti mormon sites. There is nothing that has been said that isn't true and she has every right to put it out there.on HER channel. You also have every right to believe what you want, but if you take offense to someone telling the truth, tune out.
Stooping to using the exact language they prohibit of others is SUCH a perfect Mini-example of the reasons why some of us leave.
I never thought about it that way before. Great point!
In addition to being so spiteful, the language they’re using is shocking coming from faithful Mormons. It’s like they’re “fair gaming” you. Like they don’t see you as a human anymore, like you’re so evil that they somehow get a pass for breaking the rules just to insult you. That’s so disturbing
I agree, how can they be “good upstanding Mormons” if they use foul language like that?
Yes exactly!
In many ways, Mormonism feels like Scientology with a hundred year head start.
My first time going through the temple in 1999, I couldn't stop the voice inside my head screaming, "oh my god! I'm in a cult!" Weeks later, I was in the MTC thinking, "oh my god, it's a brain washing camp. A prison! I can't leave campus? I can't be alone for 10 minutes! I'm in Hell!" I got in trouble on a daily basis. Once, for racing an apple and an orange down the sidewalk. I was creating a negative atmosphere by trying to have some fun.
A month later I spent every cent I had to buy a bus ticket because I couldn't leave any other way. I tried. My family wouldn't support me, and the church refused to let me leave. I never went to church again.
I refuse to support family baptisms, mission calls or any other church related calling or event and to this day, wish I could go back and unconvert the few people I was responsible for converting while I was on the mission. Yeah... it's a cult.
My parents once asked me how I would raise a family outside of the church. I told them, "You don't need religion to believe in the devine. You don't need to be mormon to be a good person or have a steady moral compass." My daughter is all the evidence I need to know I was right.
You and some of the other exmos speaking out has been a reminder of all the reasons I left the LDS cult so many years ago.
BTW, love those glasses.
If you consider yourself Christ-oriented, you have to ask yourself ‘WWJD’
If the answer is all the stuff the Mormon Church does, you’re in the right place.
If not, though… 🤔
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. When I sit down and review my life and experiences in the lds church, I feel ashamed, bullied, and brainwashed, I still cannot believe how these people that were in my young life tried so hard to destroy my critical thinking. Now at 70 years old, even after running away from the church, at 25 ,I still have frustration and anger issues. I will never set foot in another church of any denomination. If I am approached on the street by some bible thumper, my first thought is that this person would become violent to enforce their opinions on me. I love my life as it is, without this mind controlling , money grabbing, scamming cult. Of all the threats, dangers, and risks we are exposed to in life, I feel that the lds church, as well as most other religions are the biggest threat to to my safety, sanity, and peaceful prosperous life.
@@briankelly8848the white supremacy in that last sentiment about most religions. Don’t mention the diverse Middle East either because much of what you all complain over is American interference founded. Even the so called religious conflicts in parts of Africa are just the fault lines some people broke apart at when fighting over who gets to control their own resources for western exploitation(like your diamonds). I’m a Christian feminist abolitionist. Don’t define me by your life. Glad you have some sense of peace though, even it seems you could use some therapy to stop calling me a Bible thumper(ew, I’m not a tailed animal) and to release some fear of violence you may be anticipating more than anything. Bless your heart(no sarcasm)
You didn’t really describe a cult, just not an environment where they were not actively going to finance you leaving which tbh makes sense if they want you to reconnect with the religion and it’s meant to be a development program. You came broke on your own by choice. Your family didn’t have to pay for you. You were at an intense boot camp for mission and they probably wanted you to see it through and not be easily discouraged. I’m not a Mormon or ex Mormon lol. I’m just using logic from what I know from your story and information about MTC. When I was in band camp, I also had to see it through even though it was very hot and we have less than ten minutes to ourselves. We were all hot, sweating and less than an arms length apart at all times with short bathroom breaks 😂 maybe they didn’t think you were being serious enough for the environment. I’m not trying to be mean, but certain environments have different rules. On the field we couldn’t move from a stance even if a fly landed on us because the shine could be seen on our instrument and it would throw off uniformity so like you’d better have been being stung by a bee or something before you moved at the end of a march. Steady moral compass and making the best decisions for yourself or being the most kind and considerate person are things I’ve learned are different. Often atheists are just decent people and that’s where it ends. Decent being actually complacent in harmful systems by doing no volunteer work nor activism and being ruder but thinking if they’re not shanking someone, they’re moral. It’s a generalization, but it’s just my observation the bar is lower for non religious people and I don’t admire that as someone who believes in civic engagement even if I take my religion out the equation. I was raised to be of service to other humans and be exceptional. Not all atheists hold high standards for themselves and their kids in an act of “rebellion” that becomes complacency over time. So I’d be careful of that because moral is both a bare minimum and one not many people meet as often as they think, especially able bodied cishet white people in the west. But also discipline and rules aren’t bad, maybe it’s the way you told it but it kind of just read like someone who hated not being allowed to do as they please at a serious training program....like maybe mission wasn’t even for you...but idk the rules about when you have to do what so no judgement there
The reason cults are so hostile to people who leave is that they're nearly impossible to get back. Once it's clear that you won't be converted, anyone is fair game.
ExJW here reaching out to congratulate you for escaping. I know how hard it can be. Best wishes on your new adventure of life!
Spoken like someone that has found more than a few excellent reasons for staying unchained from a club that offers no free will to its membership.
0:47 "Zero tolerance for criticism or questions." Well that one's far too familiar.
And if you dared to question, you were not "worthy", you were not "good enough", you didn't have a "testimony" (and they'd look at you like "what's wrong with you?"). I always felt so judged and found lacking in the church. And it makes me angry now--what right do those people have to judge me or anyone else? I think perhaps that's God's job (assuming a supreme being exists at all and if not, they still have no right to judge other people).
In the 70s and 80s, you could have some legitimate discussions priesthood meetings as time went on, and things became more restrictive. You could no longer have open discussions.
im so sorry you're getting these comments. i left when i was 17 and your videos were one of the big parts of me realizing that i was in a cult. you're not a piece of shit and im very grateful that you made information accessible to me when i needed it.
Yeah her videos are what made me realize I wasn’t crazy 😂
I left @ 16, went back at about 22, then left in 2022 xXx
I left the church before going through the temple. So glad I didn't stay longer
Same. I had no doubts when I made the choice to leave, but then when I saw video of the temple ceremonies a few weeks later? That's when it hit me that I hadn't been in a church, I had been in a cult.

Aside from being needlessly crass/rude, I will never understand why people follow accounts of those they hate. If they don't like what you're saying, doooooooon't waaaaaaaatch. They are literally ignoring their own advice to not watch "anti" material. They are telling on themselves.
Especially considering that the church advises members to not watch this material. Honestly, though, those are the members that are more likely to make it out as rude as they are. They are actually watching the anti-mormon videos. I remember when I was in that position though I wasn't being toxic in the comments section.
They believe they're defending the faith. And try to claim influence of affirmation by telling their group about how they defended the faith.
Just stopped what I was doing because it's not okay that people keep acting like exmos are the worst but they keep being so rude! I want to thank you about your work, it's not easy, and I admire how you still act kindly
Secretive indeed. I’ve never been Mormon but I’ve studied it for over 50 years. It was just two years ago
when I found out about the “Second Anointing”.
Please explain what Second Anointing is
@@Mark73 its a secret temple ceremony. it’s basically a ticket straight to the celestial kingdom only provided to the elite fist class members.
It is so hard to leave, just mentally every part of you seems to scream not to do it. When you recognize that it is a cult you no longer feel so weak. You are struggling because you have been raised in a cult your whole life. I love your videos! ❤
They can’t handle their cognitive dissonance breaking before their eyes and are lashing out…oh well😅
For all the scared crappy cultists there are just as many of us who adore you and want to see you thrive and have seen and agree with everything you've talked about..
Exactly, the rude people are self proclaimed active LDS, it just gives me goosebumps all over to want to go back and emulate their behavior, seriously, Lex, I have tons of respect for you, tons ♥️♥️
As a non practicing Catholic, I can honestly say nothing about a single video of yours has upset me yet Miss Exmo. You, and Alyssa Grenfell are really helping me understand why those Mormon Elders just wont quit knocking on the front door of my house. I always encourage those missionaries to leave their cult, and give up on everything they've been taught. I don't think any have taken my advice yet though.
In response to that a little, Alyssa had a video segment on the why. According to the Mormons they have an area book. She showed hers. And they have every contact in it and every little detail. They share it in your local ward so later Mormons would see they visited and would go back. After seeing that video it makes tons of sense. My uncle would send Mormons to us all the time because he was a bishop and wanted all his family converted. So we definitely are in that area book.
When the missionaries show up, answer the door naked, or say, 'Hey welcome!!! We were just getting ready to celebrate Black Mass and we need two more candle holders 🤣🤣😂😂
As an ex and lesbian I've been told by members that if I really pray and read the BoM I can always change my ways and still follow Christ. They don't know our minds and our lives, what it like for us to have to live with this over our heads every day. I prefer to look at my own grown and at who I am no t what they are.
When a person says ‘Homosexuality is a sin’ I say fine, since it’s your religion not mine then don’t be homosexual because *it is religion itself that is an unnatural artificiality peculiar to mankind itself, you do not find kangaroos or lobsters worshiping a god.* Now then, if one can *"love the sinner, but hate their sin",* one can also *"love that believer, but hate their belief".* *BTW there is no science *“proving heterosexuality”* nor is there any *”straight”* gene either.
I'm confused about these mormons saying the s-word in your comments. That wasn't allowed when I was in the church.
a lot of members have loosened up.
Almost anything (or everything) is justified when defending the church…even up to murder (see Book of Mormon and early church history for examples!). Confirms the point about being in a cult! And yes, all my adult LDS friends and even adult siblings faded away when I left…and it was mutual as I faded away from them as well-a good thing really-Mormons generally do not like being around people who challenge their beliefs (even if you are not challenging or confronting them directly)…its just a lot of dang hard emotional and psychological work to keep that charade going!!! 😂
My ex (still a true believer) curses like a sailor. I was thinking the same as you -- is that cool these days?
When I left, the things that were done to me by a very devout close family member are too egregious to post here. It was so traumatic that a non Mormon neighbor thought that I was developing Parkinson's.
I don't know what you've been through but I'm sorry all the same. I've known several people including myself and my family who get like that due to their trauma. Healing from it is a lifelong journey.
I’m so sorry you had to go through so much trauma. I hope you’re doing better now.
@@amytheshihtzumom Thank you Amy. Time has helped the healing. It was a real eye opener of how vicious some members can be, with so much pent up emotion surfacing when their belief system is threatened.
I’ve seen this kind of dark energy before. You are easier to discredit because you can’t hold a cognitive thought together. I find it’s important to find a real honest energy worker. The normal things I’ve seen in Utah sounds schizophrenic to most the rest of society.
As a former member who never got to the temple (I was never "worthy"), I don't know what happens at the temple. But I have no doubt that you and other members who talk about their experiences at the temple are being truthful. I won't say 'No, Mormons don't do that". That was one of the things that always bothered me about the Church--everything surrounding the temple was hush-hush and so secretive. I didn't connect it with a cult at the time, but it just always seemed very suspicious to me that they wouldn't be honest with you about what happens in the temple. As I've said before, given what I've seen and heard about what happens at the temple, I'm glad I was never worthy.
There are YT videos of what goes on in the temple, that will open your eyes about the occult rituals.
You are worthy of true happiness no matter what anyone says. I remember doing baptisms for the dead in the temple which was a peaceful experience but I can't really say that I've ever felt "filled with the spirit". Everyone experiences the temple differently and some even realize that they are in a cult while they go through their sealing. I'm sure it's one of the reasons they have been changing that ritual to be more toned-down.
@@edwardschwenk3100 Try the videos by New Name Noah.
Once you realize anyone can connect to the Holy Spirit without permission from anyone else you will realize you have always been worthy. People of all cultures around the world have been doing it for thousands of years. It’s an ability within all of us.
@@edwardschwenk3100 Do a search for Mormon church temple rituals filmed. Some are sure to come up.
Thank you, Lex, for all of your efforts. I appreciate your fairness, civility, and always bringing the receipts.
I have total admiration for the younger generation being able to step away from the church. I was a member over 45 years before leaving.😢
I agree! My children left and I followed. I’m so grateful to them.
You hit the Bullseye with every point you made. I cannot tell you how many LDS members I have asked questions of, full well knowing the answer already, who say “That’s not true, whoever told you that is lying to you.” However, the next time I see them, they avoid the topic at all. I assume it’s because they found out a little more about their “church” that they now have to wrestle with. Unfortunately, they will get the church’s manipulated response to the topic.
The first person that ever called me "a piece of shit" was my father when I was a teen. And the thing about Mormons is, once you're labeled as such, that's all you'll ever be.. I was forced to go no contact from my entire family 5yrs ago because I could never escape that "piece of shit" label. Just being myself made me an awful human being. Why? Because I held them accountable for their toxic behaviors. Apparently that made me a "cold, callous, and heartless person who didn't give a fu*k about anyone but myself."
❤Love to you Lex !! Thank you for all your hard work and efforts to speak the truth!!❤️❤️

It's fantastic that you could get enough emotional distance to examine the negative comments carefully. Very insightful, and Im sure this will be helpful to others.
Good for you, Lex, staying strong and speaking openly and honestly, with vulnerability, but also firmess in your convictions.
You're awesome, and I'm truly happy for you that you have a husband who is on the same path, sharing the journey. Some people who meet in the church (or other cult organizations) are forced to choose between their spouse and their own freedom.
Keep it up! For anyone who sends nastygrams, there are 1000 of us cheering you on!

This is gold ❤. I remember as a missionary, reacting to people who would claim that the Mormon church is a cult. I couldn’t fathom how people could think such a thing. It took me a few years after the beginning of my de-conversion from Mormonism to finally see that institution as a cult

They’re probably freaked out that there’s other cults out there (JWs, Scientology) whose ex-members experience the exact same treatment when they leave their cults.
In Utah people also leave LDS and form their own cults. It’s so interesting to watch. They create something to cast hate on something but also do the same behaviors of the organization they hate.
Long ago I considered the church. I attended one service. Shortly after I had a series of nightmares that were terrifying. I told my brother about them and he said they may be a warning to avoid the Mormon church. I cut ties with the church teachings and the nightmares ended.
Off topic, look at your sweater!! I love it! ❤
Great video Lex one of your best in my opinion.
One Mormon friend gave birth at age 15 (before she was taught the facts of life) her family had to pay a church member to marry her in a church brokered deal. (Her husband pimped her out to his friends) Another friend was excommunicated when she turned 11, and told the most hilarious anecdote of how the elders treated her when her son was baptized. If it works for them, I'm happy for them.
Why is it cultish type religions are such DAMN perverts. They sexually assault the young and get away with it.
Keep up the good work Lex!
Well done Lex. You are brave and doing good work
What you described here -other than the temple and rites secrecy-is very very similar to my experience leaving an IFBC.
I’m so sorry you are called names and sent hate. Thank you for your great vids.
The cult members were just embarrassed by participating in such idocrasy!
My boss is an ex-Mormon. He got fed up with all the bullshit rules and now identifies as agnostic. When he interviewed me, he took me out for Mexican - and had a shot of tequila. And he drinks coffee out of a BYU mug. I had a feeling I’d like it there, and so far, so good.
When I was a believer, I used to get upset at people attacking MY religion. It was a wake-up call to realize just how much I was attaching my sense of self to mormonism. It was unhealthy. Good advice to question why you get offended if someone criticizes your beliefs. Thanks for all you do, Lex. Don't let the haters get you down.

Truth. It was not Morman-ism, but a different cult I escaped from 4 decades ago. All the same indicators.
One of the scariest feelings is that one's church might be a cult. I would encourage people to take these markers seriously. Take a step back, maybe, give one's head the advantage of objectivity.
I support you completely! You know what is wild? The ad attached to your video right after your video was "Hebrew Book of Mormon"! What the hell?

I was raised quiverfull evangelical Christian. They would call Mormonism a cult, but not them.. lets just say, pointing out their cult behavior always causes pearl clutching and insults..
This is entirely true, hating on others for leaving a religion is definitely cultish. And yes as an ex-mo I can confirm if you don’t believe exactly what they teach you then you are out casted. One time my bishop refused to renew my temple reccomend because I said I supported gay marriage 💀

My first wife was Mormon. She wasn't active but was just raised to believe. Her Mom was a bit more into it and her sisters were even more devout. I was wearing a cross one day and one of her sisters ask why would I wear something that remind me of how Jesus died and if someone died from being shot would I then wear a bullet. This took me by surprise as I was raised Christian Methodist and said that it was a reminder of how He died for our sins. I then asked how their religion came to be... Oh lord what a story, guy finds golden tablets, burys golden tablets, guy goes back and can't find golden tablets so writes what he remembers. If that isn't enough when the mom died and the funeral was held, the "preacher" or whatever he was then explained 3 levels of heaven you could go to depending on how you lived your life. Memory eludes as to the names of them, but the top tier claims to make you God like. Talk about blasphemy. They claim to follow the regular Bible plus the Mormon Bible. I think I saw more than an "outsider" should have during that funeral. It proved to me once and for all that the Mormon religion was absolutely a cult. Very little difference from the Muslim religion, with the exception that Muslims believe that non believers should be beheaded. It's amazing that people will believe a lot of things when they have no belief to start with. To each their own I suppose.
