lol same im going to take my beginner permit test next week. no classes but lots of studying and I've been riding for years off road. here's to the challenge lol. (update: passed the test no problem! had to go first too lol)
@@jaqueline4785 yessss sir, with 0 errors, it’s real easy man, just don’t focus too much on passing and actually doing the exercises correctly and you’ll pass! and pay attention, but everyone in my class passed
I'm scared of taking my 1200cc 12k rpm peak track monster out to Swerve cones at literal idle speed lol. Went from motocross to tracks and finally street legalized my monster now need a license from someone that probably could take lessons from me lol
If only my city knew what they were doing and had a safe testing site. I've been riding for over 20 years and failed my test after sliding on gravel when the instructor decided to combine the first 2 skills together. She combined the slalom and u-turn into 1 test but expressed that if I went outside the box I would instantly fail. Got to the end and tried to turn but the ground was all gravel causing my wheels to shift bringing me down. Her excuse for the gravel was that "there is debris on the roads so it makes it more realistic". DOT is currently investigating the instructor and supervisor as neither have motorcycle endorsements yet are running a testing facility for it. They have also closed the testing site until it can be brought up to DOT minimum standards.
The MSF course I took had us doing an extra one at the end where you start into a curve-must hit 20mph on a straightaway coming out of that curve- and then it curves again and you stop at some cones on the other side.
So are you supposed to hit both brakes to slow down before going into the turn? Bc someone replied to this comment saying they pulled the clutch which made them fail. I was going too fast (focused on hitting the 20mph) and didn't slow down at all so I couldn't make the turn 💀😂
An update on this video..its been awhile and 4got to comment a week after this video was posted. I took the test and passed with 95% .. thx u for posting it when I needed the help 😎 nice cam setup too.. ride safe
My fear is choking on a test vrs riding normal. I have terrible test anxiety of any kind , or even when somone is over lookin my performance at work . I have bad anxiety to begin with but for some reason riding I am fine , I am already cautious when driving and riding etc bec I am well aware of dangers so I'm very use to being alert, so that doesn't add to stress, but the idea of a test freaks me the f out . I don't wanna pay and fail or go to the dmv and fail , so I been keeping up with practice and trying to learn about the tests over and over so I'm comfortable and hopefully not panic during my test bec I'm being tested .
I take my skills test tomorrow and am hoping for the best 🤞 this is my second time doing the course and failed the first time bc I couldn’t make a turn from a stop and a U-turn. I have practiced since and am a little more confident in my abilities to do it. Will come back tomorrow with an update on if I passed or failed. Wish me luck 🍀
Hi Dan, thank for the video. I just passed the course last weekend (through MTII here in Miami) and I was wondering if there is a source where I can find the dimensions / cone setup for all the exams ? I’d really Like to continue practicing the way it’s setup for the tests
Does a person need to know how to use a clutch in order to take the ride test? The whole reason why i want to ride, is because there is bikes and bigger scooters out there that now have no clutch. To me thats what makes it exciting to want to ride a bike. A clutch is a huge turn off for me!
The dmv where im at their course is meant for scooters. I have a 1100 shadow and I need my license by May 24. The msf course was shut down in my area so I can do that
I had a terrible experience on a MSF course where we had to do street 500 Harleys. I got upset with verbally abusive instructors so I walked off. It was ass. You gotta treat the class like a test, you’re not their to learn and they’re not there to teach you. You’re there to get a license. Hopefully you have someone you trust who can actually teach you, or you can get private lessons maybe. In my experience at the Harley brc they did nothing more then shout angrily and and expect us to master each skill within like 3 non consecutive attempts. Not to mention if you get slightly confused they take it as personal attack against them

You didn't stop fast enough. Apply very brief slight pressure to your front brake then apply heavier pressure on both brakes. Or you could just quickly apply pressure to both brakes. Just don't lock the brakes. Or do, it doesn't matter. You're allowed to skid on the quick stop test and youre only going 12-15 mph. At that speed you should be able to stop almost immediately.

Been riding my harley (illegally) for 2 weeks and funny thing is how much easier it is to ride/control than the honda. Like driving a car. Got a weird question. I have an electric bike, but it is technically classified as a motorcycle because it has over 1,000 watts of power and reaches 60mph. Would I be able to use my e-bike on the motorcycle skills test since I don't have an actual "motorcycle"?
For the beginner class you typically have to ride the bikes they provide, unless you get an exception to bring yours from the testing center (I did, and used my automatic bike). Most places will only allow your own bike for experienced classes - but it's worth asking the place you will be testing. Everywhere I know uses Honda Rebels in their courses, so it will likely be that or something similar provided
For the cone weave are you in 1st gear throught out the entire set? Are you using only the friction zone/clutch? No throttle? How about braking? If braking are you using front or rear brake? Thanks in advance, I have my class/test in about 1 weeks super excited and feeling more confident as i watch these videos and read the msf booklet guide.
Depends on the state. I think for most you just need to do a minor knowledge test to get a permit that lasts 6 months so you can practice to pass this test. Other states require you to take a class that results in a test to get a Liscense and don't have a permit availible
I've never ridden legally but now I can so I got an old Honda rebel 450 and bought all my gear. Wish I had a little 250 sport bike to do this test but I'm sure I'll manage on a cruiser
Naw the rebel would be easier to test on. Sportbikes have a decreased rake angle and lowered clip ons which increases their low speed turn radius and their high center of gravity makes low speed maneuvers less stable. But I didn't know that hey made a rebel 450?!
This is a great video. One thing I noticed on the braking test was that your rear wheel did skid for a second. Obviously that's safer probably than the front tire skidding but are you going to be marked off for that?
In the U.K. We sit 3 tests CBT, MOD 1 and MOD 2 before you can ride on the road. Your age also has restrictions on the size of bike you can ride, what's your thoughts on the UK tests?
Your slalom cones were way too far apart and not enough of them. There are supposed to be 7-8 cones, 7 ft apart and offset by 3 ft in alternating directions. It's basically 7 consecutive 90 degree turns at low speed. That's why so many people mess up their slalom.
