  • This work sample is a 5 minutes video that compiles/portrays/shows the artistic abilities of Techung as the Master Folk Artist and his apprentices Mia and Jasmine Eames.
    Year: 2021-2018
The first part of the video is an excerpt of Techung’s performance as a traditional Tibetan traditional artist for the Mountain Lake PBS documentary film “Arts in Exile”. This is a traditional song from southeast Tibet that was taught to Techung by an elder singer named Ama Bhalu from the Tibetan community in exile in South India. Techung’s music and work as a Master Folk Artist living in New York was one of the main subjects of this documentary film. This performance was also part of the Himalayan Festival at SUNY Plattsburgh, NY where Techung taught Tibetan traditional songs to American students at the Adirondack Youth Orchestra.
The second part of the video showcases apprentices Miarose and Jasmine Eames rehearsing Tibetan traditional songs with Techung as part of their previous apprenticeship program in 2021. This video was recorded by the New York Folklore Society.
Techung and his apprentices successfully completed the previous apprenticeship program for the duration of 6 months with a final performance for the Tibetan American community and family members. This video was recorded at the end of this process
