Having access to the Met is just one of the reasons I love living in NYC and I can't wait to see this exhibit. It was one of the first memberships I acquired when I moved here almost 10 yrs ago.
The Met's done a fantastic job with these presentations over the last year, during challenging times. I enjoyed this and the Alice Neel presentation immensely.
I've been to The Met several times when I lived on the east coast and it's one of most fantastic places I've ever been. I wish I had had more time to explore all of the exceptional artwork inside when I was there but it's always thrilling to learn more about the history of these pieces. Thank you to all of the staff who was able to come together in a difficult time to create the exhibit for the world to enjoy - either in person or virtually.
Exquisitely and well projected exhibit. I certainly hope the THE MET will be kind enough to find a way to travel this exhibit to its rightfull place.... FIRENZE.
I will not be in New York again until December so I will not see the exhibition in person. I am very grateful for this wonderful video tour and conversation between these two insightful experts - thank you for sharing this wonderful story!
I went to The Met last week and was so overwhelmed (in a pleasant way) by the vast selection of art that I didn't realize that this particular collection was new and so rare. I saw "The Medici" but passed right along. One should really set aside several hours to walk this museum and take in the many masterpieces. I'll be back soon I hope.
What a luxury having a virtual tour explained by these two knowledgeable gentlemen. Thank you! Having been in Florence a while ago, I feel great "going back" through this historical exhibition of the most powerful family in this extraordinary city, then a republic. Milagros Vecino
I am loving the fact the original painting “Portrait of a Young Man” by Bronzino is a part of the Medici Exhibit at The Met.. I own, by serendipity, a reproduction of this original hanging at the Met.. I found my reproduction in a thrift shop in Chapel Hill, NC in the late 90’s.. I Love The Met..
The Exhibition is wonderful and very meaningful for everyone, but probably especially for someone, who like me, equated the Medici greatness mostly with Lorenzo the Magnificent. This is from a later chapter, associated with Cosimo I. I highly recommend buying the excellent exhibition catalog, studying it deeply and visiting the Exhibition more than once. I plan to. By the way, we visited it early on the opening day, and the line was very reasonable - we waited probably 10 or 15 minutes
I was able to see this beautiful exhibit three weeks ago in person. This art and the history behind it will always amaze me. Thank you for posting this to share with everyone.
This was an informative, well produced, and enjoyable presentation. We learned a lot. Thank you so much. You have made more meaningful our upcoming August visit to the exhibition. Well done, Met.
Thank you so much for this expert guided tour! Was really luck to view the exhibition in person on the last day and this video provided so much meaningful information!
We need more of that. I am waiting for my car to be serviced and I feel like my time is filled with exquisite culture. I feels to me like I am at the exhibit. Thank you!
What a presentation from the Metropolitan museum of arts, a dream come true, so systematic, informative because was unaware that the Metropolitan museum had " The medici " portraits too. Compared to how Indian modern Museum in Delhi present its paintings I feel blessed watching this. Thanks for uploading.
Rather brilliant portraiture - wonderful, with expression and taste. Thoughtful and insightful narration. It’s a bit worrisome that so many long term cultural preservationists retiring nowadays and not all of them due to age…
beautiful video! the exhibition seems spectacular and so sad I will not be able to go to NY and see it, but then again, being in Italy I can quite easily go to Florence.... Thanks so much for the detailed explanations!
17:55 viewers with a harpsichord heart will recognize here the cover of the recording by Chiara Massini 'Variazioni Goldberg' (J.S. Bach) Bronzino 'Dama in rosso' recorded in August 2006 in Pisa and released in 2007 for the Symphonia label SY 06222.
Never read it in a history book or saw on a documentary but in the middle of this past century I was a two year old immigrant. Henry seeding the North....my Aunt fearing my cousins would get in trouble when the protestants celebrated. Margaret, vme mother, found a will leaving the home in the West to their family, not us.
I noticed that too, but it wasn't too bad that I couldn't understand what the curators were saying. And the art does speak for itself. Great presentation. I've only been to the Met once , with my late wife in 1983. Had almost a full day there, but there's too much to take in. Would love to get back in person one day. We'll see...
At the very begiņning there was a famous portrait of Lucrezia Panchiatichi, the gran-gran-gran Mother of the famous fashion stylist Emilio Pucci. She was married to a rich nobleman Panchiatichi. I wonder if she was in any relationship to the dynasty of Medici? Anyhow, she was an extremely beautiful women of her time!
What is the ophthalmological term for the eye condition that seems genetic to this family? Would be nice to have that and possibly other health conditions revealed in these portraits discussed.
This would be much better if it were slowed down. Barely a second to view beautiful art and the narration is racing along trying to pack information in.
Hi! Yes, you can. Here is more info on the exhibition, open at The Met Fifth Avenue until October: www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/listings/2021/medici-portraits-and-politics
Hi Maria, great question! Yes, the video will remain up so you can view anytime after the premiere. You can learn more about the event here: www.metmuseum.org/events/programs/met-celebrates/the-medici-virtual-opening. We look forward to having you!
@@metmuseum thank you! Looking forward to watching it tomorrow! I wish I could see this important and beautiful exhibition live, but a virtual tour is better than nothing! I hope you have many guests which this exhibition deserves.
The constant quick cuts with the editing is nauseating. Also the interview style is odd, why not have them walk around the exhibition and stop and examine a few pieces and talk about them in detail.
Exhibition is remarkable, yet video editing ruins impression completely, even a slideshow with a voice over will do much better. please get a better video editing team. Sorry for getting negative, i wish there’re were more content from museums and art history, just represent it a bit more respectful . Thank you.
On the Met web site it says that masks are required for entry to the exhibition, even for the vaccinated, yet the participants in this video, filmed during the pandemic, are both unmasked and failing to practice social distancing. I am confused by this.
Bronzino portrait of the young guy is truly a masterpiece of the MET. How to forget that fabulous exhibition.
The bust made by Cellini is absolutely stunning. Thank you to the curators for highlighting this extraordinary piece of art and sculpture mastery

Thank you for this informative tour of the beautiful Medici exhibition! How lucky will be those to visit it in person!
Feel so privileged to have such a detailed tour and commentary. I am sure I will add the catalogue to my collection. Greetings from London.
BRAVO !

Great exhibition ref Renaissance Art! Thank you.

Great art exhibition
Max Hollein, Grazie, Lui stato meraviglioso a Francoforte. Siamo per sempre in disagio. Tenetevi fortunati a New York!💔☺️

Great exposition , I love it.
Great and enlightning exhibition and works!
Beautiful

I ADORE READING
I enjoyed it with the description, thank you ^^
This is an excellent video.
Except the sound is not balanced
The only way I would come back to New York would be to see this collection and my Holbein painting. This was very well done.
Paintings represent emotions.
Bellissimo!
Thank you so much for this master class! Beautifully done and so informative!
Cannot visit but bought the catalogue!

The volume between the two speakers is uneven. Maybe this excellent video could be remixed so that the volume is even.
WHAT A COMMENT SO VAIN AND OUT OF PLACE, YOU MISSED THE MEANING OF ALL THIS GIFT !
Thank you for putting the text
I wonder if it's your system, because I can't hear hardly any uneven volume at all.
exactly! it was very difficult to follow both speakers

It would be a lot better if the volume of the voices were equaled
This would be much better if it were slowed down. Barely a second to view beautiful art and the narration is racing along trying to pack information in.
You can change the playback speed in settings. That might help. 👍
The ability to pause any video at any time is available, you might like to try using it.
This looks like a terrific exhibition. Can we see it in person, too?

Супер!!!
doesanyone know what argument the organizers make throughout the video?
whoever is your sound editor needs to get fired. great video nonetheless
My husband and I are vaccinated but my son is 6yo and is not able to be. Can we bring him in to The Met wit us?
Arnold certainly has changed... deep inside I always knew that he's a man of culture.
The sound balanceneeds adjusting. The Italian voice needs to go up 2 or 3 marks. to equal with the other voices.
✨🖼✨
Will the video remain on for some time after the opening, so people from countries for which the hours are different can enjoy?

Hi are there any subtitles available?
I support the motion !!!!
You can add auto captions for English. I don’t know for other language. Just click on the 3 diagonal dots and select auto caption.

I was never really an artist, I'm an heiress.
I agree on the other comment, the two speakers are speaking at different sound levels, the Italian can hardly be heard, please re edit
You say, 'private' a lot.
Cosimo hated the bust of himself...and it was put away hidden ...i guess Cosimo has no choice now about where it is displayed
8:55 Greek? He was Italian
I was stunned too! How could they say that Dante was Greek!!?
@@NorlandPark I believe they mentioned him being Italian later in the video so it might have been a mistake. Still, an odd mistake haha
Could it be a bad pronunciation of the word "great"?
