I remember when I was very young going to MET by myself. Things were bad at home so I’d get on the train and head to the museum. It was my happy place. So this is very calming and such a privilege to access.
Absolutely wonderful to be able to see this exhibition virtually! To see the work of these two giants of Impressionism side by side is a true gift. Thank you so much.
This is my second comment as I just had to watch again. The two presenters love and respect for these two artists was palpable. If Manet and Degas had not been such close friends who knows if some of these extraordinary works would have ever been produced. Friendship is everything 🙏
I was there last week (from Texas). One of my best museum experiences ever. It was packed but very well organized and still navigable. So very informative and beautifully curated. I was in awe of the logistics of putting this exhibition together. Thank you for this opportunity. I love the MET ❤
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to enjoy this important exhibition from afar! I hope many will visit it is person, as it’s not easy to bring together so many masterpieces!
A wonderful exhibition, the project is a journey into the depths of art and its family and friendship connections. It's beautiful and very emotional. Thank you for this presentation.
You have to go the the Norton Simon Museum , in Pasadena, California, to borrow or loan some of those Degas sculptures, that are magnificent!!!!!!! Beautiful Show, thank you, for providing us the history and the beautiful art!!!!
Loved this video! Much appreciated since I live in San Francisco and won't be able to visit in person. Thank you for walking us through this beautiful exhibition and explaining the story behind it.
Thank you for walking us through the exhibit! It was lovely for those of us that cannot get to The Met. Any chance this can come to San Franciso- it would be perfect at the Legion of Honor.
It's great to visit the wonderful exhibition of Monet and Degas on the virtual journey. I wish the video could stay on for a longer time to show some more details on the painting works if it is allowed.
What is missed about Olymlpia , is the fact that she is directly engaged with the viewer in contact with her eyes directly. No nude woman painted before had such a direct gaze, with the viewer before, this is where the dialogue changes in fine art of the day.
A wonderful Sunday afternoon was to experience a gallery at the Met, your friends each would absorb another, then you gather for coffee and a klatch of titans.
Nice to see some wonderful paintings from two great artists of the 19th century. Worth pointing out that the version of Le Dejeuner sur l'herbe you have is not the final picture that is in the Musee d'Orsay.
It is interesting that now we can view many paintings of Monet and Degas in MMA. I am going to visit Louvre and Musee d’Orsay on October 20. Certainly I miss them in Paris therefore I need to visit MMA in December.
Amazing exhibition. I don't think I will get to the Met to see this, but I would love to. I am a big fan of Manet. Degas less so, but I still enjoy his work quite a bit. I had no idea they were close personally.
@5:10, I became totally fascinated by the possibilities of one artist paying such a lofty homage to another by doing so many portrait sketches of the object of his artistic interest. Degas obviously admired Manet a great deal and one wonders how impressive it would be to one day discover that the fascination that Degas felt for Manet might have had to do with unrequited romantic feelings, perhaps a hidden desire that may never have had a chance to manifest itself. For one artist to devote an entire series of lovingly done drawings and sketches to his esteemed colleague is a high honor indeed.
@@nrm55they have a virtual queue that you join when you get there. I waited less than 30 minutes. It was still busy, but not elbow to elbow. A great exhibit!
Very High professional explaination two giant like Michelangelo snd Raphael. Two incredible and natural talents who made art and painting great. It is impossible to paint better snd with more tslent than Manet and Degas we achieve the perfection .
Wish I could see this. Largely because I’m so skeptical Manets work holds up as well as all those outstanding works by degas. I would like to see for myself.
It’s all so great. I’ve never seen the two artists compared and contrasted so brilliantly! There’s one question: why isn’t the black cat in “Olympia” in the exhibit from what I can see in the video? It was one of the elements most criticized at the time. It’s a sort of pun on Olympia’s hand covering her genitalia. Plus the cat is also regarding the viewer. I’d say that she looks bored. Maybe the flowers weren’t enough. Maybe she wanted jewelry. Just my opinion. Thanks for everything!
I’m curious about the curators’ statement that this was the first time the portrait of Olympia had been seen on this side of the Atlantic. Wasn’t it shown at Columbia U in 2019 as part of The Black Model - Posing For Modernity?
I’m sure I missed it but what are the dates of the exhibition and how could we get the catalog if we’re not in NY? Amazing work from both museums, congratulations
You must joi the virtual exhibition queque once you're inside the museum. The line ends at 3 or 7 pm depending on the day of your visit. The exhibit ends n January 7, 2024. The catalog costs $65.@@wendywalker7350
I appreciate Degas's honesty about the atrocious European colonization and slavery empires that were the source of European countries’ wealth then and now.
What a wonderful gift to get to see these pieces virtually. Thank you so much. I hope you do more of these. It’s wonderful!
We will! Thanks for watching!
I remember when I was very young going to MET by myself. Things were bad at home so I’d get on the train and head to the museum. It was my happy place. So this is very calming and such a privilege to access.
It's great you had access to such an amazing resource.
Here I was lamenting not being able to make it to NY to see this… THANK YOU FOR MAKING ART ACCESSIBLE!!!!!
It was an absolutely brilliant exhibition. I was an hour with Olympia alone. What a gift. So grateful to the MET.
Absolutely wonderful to be able to see this exhibition virtually! To see the work of these two giants of Impressionism side by side is a true gift. Thank you so much.
Thank you … another wonderful gift!
This is so helpful. My family gets sick of me lecturing about art. Now they can just listen to the experts. Thanks. No more mansplaining from me!
I live in Brazil, and Manet and Degas are my fave painters ever. So, this exhibition is a dream. Thanks for the video
This is my second comment as I just had to watch again. The two presenters love and respect for these two artists was palpable. If Manet and Degas had not been such close friends who knows if some of these extraordinary works would have ever been produced. Friendship is everything 🙏
Well done! Looking very forward to seeing the exhibit. Thank you!

In awe. Wish I could see in person!
It's there until January I think. You have time!
Thanks to enrich the wonderful exhibitions the MET programs with these valuable sort of lectures.
This is a beautiful preview of an exhibit that I can hardly wait to see.
Thank-you, Met. The best art museum in the world with the best content.
I’m so excited to see it! What a treat! And thank you for this informative video.
This is a timeless exhibit at the Met! Will revisit this probably many times :) Met Member
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to enjoy this important exhibition from afar! I hope many will visit it is person, as it’s not easy to bring together so many masterpieces!

I love the wall colors chosen to highlight the art!
Thank you so much ! Enjoyed this virtual exhibition. Next best thing to being there in person.
A wonderful exhibition, the project is a journey into the depths of art and its family and friendship connections. It's beautiful and very emotional. Thank you for this presentation.
Fascinating and I love the mauve walls of the exhibition space, so calming like a hint of lavender scent. Thank you so much for posting this.
We love it too!
Wonderful! Thank you.
awesome exhibit. thank you for doing this video and walking us through its magic. 😊
I went to The Met in 1983 to attend the Manet exhibit. It was simply wonderful.
Very well produced. Thank you.

A wonderful exhibition, well presented of great artworks of these amazing artists
Outstanding!
Love the ”purple’ walls. Really brings even more out in the artwork.
Loved this video! Much appreciated since I live in San Francisco and won't be able to visit in person. Thank you for walking us through this beautiful exhibition and explaining the story behind it.

I will be visiting absolutely!
Wonderful explanations of such an important exhibition- thank you I’ve learned so much 🎨
Art from the artist. It is an art to do this in many ways. AMAZING.
I went twice, coming from northern New England--so wonderful to see Olympia in person.
Beautiful...Thank You

Just found out about this exhibit and have decided to see it in person. Planning a trip from LA just to see it before the exhibit ends.
This couldn’t come at a better time❣️
Muchísimas gracias.

J’aime beaucoup votre introduction.
J’espère que ce n’est que le début d’une longue ( immersion. )
Manet by far has the bravura of style. Degas was still influence by academic style, though his later works became impressionistic. 🙏🏻😊
Wonderful!
Just wonderful!❤
Wow thanks for this!
11:50 the cat's eyes lol
extraordinaire!

I like both two artists❤ I called them Morden impressionism & Academy impressionism.
Lived in Paris 33 years, most of these are borrowed from Musee d'Orsay, Love the Met too.
Magnifique magnifique et très belle.
Each of these painting Is a masterpiece on its own.
Much different wandering through quiet galleries with paintings than in the midst of a sold out crowd.
I walked the exhibit, they are only allowing a certain number of people in at a time and it is wonderful!

Timed reservations?

For sure, I’ve gotten to see some of these, but, best this way.
Dazzling exhibition. I only wish the colors of the walls had been varied by room as was the case at the Orsay's presentation of this exhibition.
Thank you!!!

The cat is on the right of the picture standing on the end of the bed.

Hey Max, could you do a show with Klimt and Vermeer. It’ll be titled Verklimt.
I’m sure I missed it but what are the dates of the exhibition and how could we get the catalog if we’re not in NY? Amazing work from both museums, congratulations

Thank you for answering. I just comment on my visit of last week…I made it to NYC from Texas just in time!

I went to the MetM. The door is closed on Wednesday 😢公石
This Is impressionism. The perfection.
Art painting is expression powerfull
Its a shame you did not have any of Dega's sculptures?
The show compares and contrasts the work of these artists in their lifetime. Degas' sculpture were unknown until his death.
awesome
why did they paint the walls purple...
💛💛💛
Why the aubergine walls?
I think the wall color is perfect with the work exhibited.Must have been a difficult choice with so many options.

Love these two artists, but the purple walls - no! That color just overwhelms and distracts from the beautiful paintings.
🙏👍
