Caution! DONT direct the fan at your reptile. Wind scorch is very drying, be careful. Direct the fan into the terrarium carefully. Be sure your gecko can retreat to a breeze-free corner if they want to. Also, humidity does NOT make it hotter. That is a sensation humans experience because high humidity prevents us losing heat by sweating. It's how we evolved to lose heat. But reptiles do not sweat to regulate their body temperature. So humidity for cresties is vital for their hydration. Don't get stingy with the misting. Cool water will help reduce the temperature. Keep your humidity up! Extra tips: Take the lighting hood off to maximise airflow and clear the front airvents at the bottom of the doors. Keep the tank out of direct sun. I don't worry about lighting during heatwaves. Temp control takes priority. But a well lit room can be kept cool without needing total blackout blinds, so long as you obstruct direct sun with curtains or screens. I put icepacks inside heatguards, then put these in the terrarium. Then place a square fan on the top, directing air flow from the back to the front vents. Extra foliage around the sides that are hit the most by natural light can also help absorb that heat. You can also place frozen water bottles by the fan to inject cooler air into the terrarium. Just dont blast it onto your gecko baby
These are great tips, and this is something I’ve been struggling with because my room gets really hot. Keep in mind, when buying a portable air conditioner, make sure to get one with TWO hoses, rather than one, it makes them far more efficient. The UA-cam channel Technology Connections has a really good video on them.

I just wanted to say thank you because after years of watching your channel I was finally able to get a leopard gecko of my own! His name is Azymondias and I've had him for about ten months now :)
I think a good alternative to the reptibreeze enclosure would be just DIYing one using a plastic bin. Those are also significantly lighter than a glass enclosure, retain humidity well and are quite wildly available at a reasonable cost (most hardware and department stores carry a wide selection of them. Sometimes even dollar stores have them!). They certainly aren't the prettiest looking enclosure option but if its a only a space for sleeping I don't think that will matter a whole lot lol.
hey! so i kinda want you to see this so i might comment this more than once, thanks to you my gecko yiga will be turning two this august! we got him a (40?-45?) gallon exo terra tank and we've switched to loose substrate ( a mixture of bioactive repti soil and sand, it has a ratio where it will not cause impaction, we also have a solid area for him to eat just incase, per one cup of sand add three cups of repti soil) but id like to thank you so so much for the help you've given me since summer or 2020

This video is probably going to end up saving my gecko's life... I'm planning on getting a crestie, but here in Utah, it gets pretty darn hot in the summers...
Great tips. I got myself a red eyed crocodile skink and they actually need cooler temperatures than leopard geckos (roughly 30 under heat spot, rest should be 20-24 degrees). I already am using some air conditioners but never used thsoe expensive, portable ones but I am guessing I will buy one for the sake of my skink :) and for me since next week we are receiving almost 40°C and that would be noticed in my room even tho the sun never shines in!
I took note of your comments about the mini usb fan and slate on the cool side. Living in Texas, the room can get close to 80f ambient during the peak heat hours in the summer. I also love the concept of introducing some airflow into the tank. Mine's 36"x18"x18" so a small fan should mostly impact the "cool" side. I am going to get right on that!
Definitely get some airflow moving in there and try some frozen cola bottles or ice packs by the fan to cool the tempt down. Just dont point it directly on your reptile x

I need help. I have been researching for leopard gecko and plant safe substrates. (Something cheap and in the US) I also want to get a baby and am wondering if 24x18x12 is too big for it.
There’s no such thing as too big, only too bare. As long as there’s enough clutter and plant coverage a baby will do fine in that size enclosure. Although I’d upgrade to a 36x18x18” enclosure or larger for an adult. Regarding substrate: a mix that’s 60% manure-free potting soil and 40% washed playsand (or soil/sand/clay) is good.
@@murdac nope! Impaction is caused by improper husbandry, not loose substrate. As long as their husbandry is correct (temps/heating, hydration, etc.) a healthy gecko will be able to pass loose sub no problem. They live on loose terrain in the wild, they’ve evolved to be able to handle it.
I've just recently bought a female 2 week old leopard gecko and I've named her Karma. Is it unusual for her to not want to eat anything the first few days and spend a majority of time in her moist hide? Thanks!
Congrats on your new gecko! It’s best to leave her alone for at least a week, it’s normal for a gecko to first need to get used to its environment. Your moist and warm hide should be on the warm side, one hide on the cool end. If all the temperatures for the hides are optimal, it could be that your gecko just chose this hide and feels safe in there. It’s not anything to worry about. Then when she is a bit more comfortable you can start attempting to feed. It can be nerve wracking having such a little baby to take care of, but if your temps and humidity are good and the enclosure is right you’ll be fine. I like the leopard gecko community on Reddit for advice as well, they’re mostly really friendly and helpful
@@ellecrescent9834 Thanks very much. I had the moist hide on the cooler side of the vivarium because I watched a video which said the heat will soak up all the moisture. I was confused as to where to actually place it. Again, thanks for the tips.
NEED HELP. Hi there how are you? I love your videos and trust your information and advice you give. Thats what brings me here, I am going to purchase my first gecko and I have done a tonne of research, I believe I have the terrarium good but im still confused about feeding, I read alot about gut loading and dusting their food, do you do that with every feed? Also how often do YOU feed? I cant do crickets bc I live in a tiny town so I would have to always get them shipped so I will produce my own worms. I want to make sure I do the best I can for my new friend. Thank you for reading :)
Gutload all feeders. Dust with calcium every other feeding and vitamins every three feedings (or Repashy Calcium Plus every feeding). Feed daily under six months, every other day between 6-12 months, and 1-2 times a week over a year. When you say you’ll produce your own worms: assuming you mean mealworms, keep in mind that they’re not the healthiest staple, and shouldn’t be the only thing they’re eating. I’d look into breeding roaches, they’re easy to breed and much more nutritious. Live crickets, roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Mealworms, super worms, and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better.
I sadly lost my gecko to crypto due to a negligence shop. Im on the look out for my next. Any suggestions on the best place to look I’m in the northeast?
Hey I have a question about feeding you say for an adult leopard gecko needs to be fed every 3-4 days but a lot of trusted sites and other UA-camrs say 1-2 a week,so I’m confused because I don’t want an unhealthy gecko
Well I've been doing this for almost 16 years now and it's produced very healthy geckos lol. Who is saying to only feed the gecko every 1-2 weeks? 😲... if it's someone with the initals BB, don't take advice from him 🙈
wait idk if you mean once every 1-2 weeks or 1-2 times a week. i think you meant the latter although id lean towards twice a week. every 3-4 days has worked for me although by gecko has gone a few days longer as an adult and while im on vacation
I'm having a problem with high humidity for my crested gecko both hygrometer are up in the mid 90s and at the same time the tank looks really dry, the tank has 3cm of prorep crestie substrate ... can anyone help
Thanks for this I had to find this out the hard way I put in an 100 wat bulb and my gecko started turning black but when I turned off the lamp she became normal and both my bulbs broke I can't buy more love you vids
Hi, I'm concerned my Leopard Gecko is impacted my mealworms. She hasn't been pooping lately and I think she has wierd spots under her belly. Is there a way I can confirm or do something at home?
What’s the basking spot temperature and how is it being measured (analog thermometer, digital, or temperature gun)? Are you sure her poop isn’t hidden somewhere in her tank? You could give her a shallow, lukewarm bath.
So can the Repti Breeze mesh tank can be used for a leopard gecko? Temporarily I mean! I was a bit confused when you just started talking about the crested Geckos? Are they similar in temperature and humidity etc?
I like to place my fans next to an open window so it draws some cooler air from outside into the room. I had a question about your portable AC-- does the sound stress out your reptiles or are they cool (horrible pun, I'm sorry) with it?
Ah cool. They don't seem to be bothered by it. I think because it's just a dull humm, it's a bit like white noise, like what people use to get to sleep to lol
I just got a baby leopard gecko a few days ago and he’s already shedded. Since I haven’t had him long he’s not used to being handled for long enough to get the extra shed skin off his feet and idk how to get it off. What should I do? Also he will only eat mealworms, I’ve tried feeding him crickets but he just won’t eat them, is that normal?
Him only eating mealworms is normal but definitely not ideal. Mealworms aren’t the healthiest staple and shouldn’t be the only thing they’re eating, a varied diet is best. Keep trying other feeders. Live crickets, roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Super worms and hornworms can be fed occasionally (if he’s big enough). The more variety in their diet, the better. If possible, give him a shallow, lukewarm bath. Use damp q-tips to loosen the shed. To prevent future stuck shed, provide a humid hide and keep the enclosure humidity between 35-65%, measured by a digital hygrometer.
Off topic but will be my first winter with a heat loving beasty and im looking forward with plenty of time, can i be pointed to any "keeping reptiles hot enough" :D or does anybody have any tips :) im in the UK
A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option for the primary heat source. Arcadia sells them, or you should be able to get them from hardware stores. Leopard geckos typically don’t need heat at night, they can tolerate a temp drop as low as 60F(16C). If you need a secondary heat source, a ceramic heat emitter or deep heat projector can be used.
I have a question, I have a leopard gecko but unfortunately I don't have a heat lamp for them yet, would they be fine if I were to turn my ac on? As if rn I'm kind of melting myself because of them and I feel like turning my ac on but I'm scared that it'll kill them
@@mollymilburn Well, it was more of a "hey, you have geckos now" out of no where from my mom, they didn't come with a heat lamp for some reason and I'm currently trying to get one
I'm having a huge problem with my one female she literally hasn't eaten in about a week and a half she did eat 2 wax worms tonight but now that she ate that I highly doubt she will eat again for another week or so but my other female juvenile is eating good and my male is being temperamental as well he went almost 2 weeks without eating after we went fully bioactive for him and his tail started getting smaller but he finally ate and has been eating every other day or so now that I swapped him nd my juvenile's enclosures. Idk I'm not sure if I am doing someone wrong or what it's sucks I feel like I am failing them 😕 I put this here because I've read that if they get to cold they will stop eating but I don't really think that is it because all 3 of stay between 90 95 on the warm side and low 70s so idk 🤔
Could your female be ovulating? I have a whole playlist on 'Female Leopard Geckos', and address all the common problems you may face wit them. Make sure the food is gutloaded and dusted in the correct supplements.
@@leopardgeckotalk so I wasn't sure I've been reading and watching your videos about that but it doesn't look like she has any eggs. I dust with earth pro every feeding calcium pro MG every 4th feeding and revitalize d3 twice a month and she also has a little cup of the calcium pro MG in her cage but I swear she can't control her self with that she had a little pocket in her armpit and I removed it until that went away. She has a deep heat projector and a halogen. I was thinking about going bioactive for her but I don't want to until I get this eating situation on track if it continues this week plan on getting her into a vet. She really isn't losing weight tho when I weighed her last week she was 110 grams down from 113g. That's literally the only reason I haven't completely lost my mind with her not eating.
I don't don't what to do! I ahve a lepard gecko and in her tank she has eco earth but she also has a heat mat underneath that in the middle of my tank , so when I mist the tank , the tank becomes very moist. But when I wipe away the wetness on the walls and window area it dries up ??
Humidity should stay in the range of 35-65%, measured by a digital hygrometer (not analog). Misting too much might make it too humid. Eco earth isn’t the best substrate, a soil/playsand or soil/sand/clay mix would be ideal. Heat mats also aren’t the best heat source, overhead heating is much better for them. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce infrared A and B like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats. Whereas heat mats only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin.
My leopard gecko some how get his water out of the bowl and lays and sleeps on the wet substance should I stop this or let him do want he want I do refill the water bowl after I no in empty

@@nightinggale6470 thank you so much for all that information!! I really appreciate it
I sadly lost my gecko to crypto due to a negligence shop.
😲... if it's someone with the initals BB, don't take advice from him 🙈
Every 3 days is the same as twice a week
wait idk if you mean once every 1-2 weeks or 1-2 times a week. i think you meant the latter although id lean towards twice a week. every 3-4 days has worked for me although by gecko has gone a few days longer as an adult and while im on vacation
That's scary! Were you using a thermostat?
@@leopardgeckotalk no because I couldn't afford it and I can't find any of the ones you recommend but my brother buaght one for us
If I put a mini fan on top of my crested geckos cage, how would I maintain the humidity?
just by spraying more often or investing in a misting system, you would also probably need to provide a water bowl
A mesh enclosure isn’t ideal for leopard geckos. It might work temporarily, though. And no, crested geckos require lower temps and higher humidity.
As if rn I'm kind of melting myself because of them and I feel like turning my ac on but I'm scared that it'll kill them
why would you even buy the gecko in the first place if you cant provide correct care???
@@nightinggale6470 thank you!!
My leopard gecko some how get his water out of the bowl and lays and sleeps on the wet substance should I stop this or let him do want he want I do refill the water bowl after I no in empty
If you have a drainage layer and the substrate isn't dangerous it's fine.
@@marenacain I don't have a draining layer but he don't lay there all day and it only coco fiber
@@paigeyslivevlog7753 it will mold.
@@marenacain I mix it up every so often where his water is not
Another tip is to keep your windows closed on hot days
Hadn't thought of that. We usually open all the windows (besides the reptile room), to kind of make a wind tunnel through our house haha
@@leopardgeckotalk yeah well insulation works both ways so keeping the windows shut when it’s getting hotter outside will keep your house cooler. It’s nice opening all the windows tho to get a breeze as you say.
just point a fan set it to 6 hours and add a thermostat at the cage and call it a day buddy
Can girl lepord geckos lay eggs out of nowhere?
