Rudolph, I wish you had been making videos years ago. Been trying to learn this craft for a while. Do you have videos on replacing an over-head truck liner? R n I Trim work is basic on a 99 F-350 any pointers. I'm having delamination in some areas but considering a totally new look fabric-wise. Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.
@@jamesstovich9923 Hello James, You are so welcome! I do have a few headliner videos in my UA-cam channel. One of them is very popular about truck headliners. Please keep liking and watching!
Thats crazy, I googled this video so I could do my Ram seat too
Hello FX, That is pretty amazing! Thanks for watching!
unless you have tried this for yourself. you will not realize how extremely easy he just made it look. Im working the backseat of a 2010 accord right now and im losing my mind.
Hello Papa, Well, you know. It's all in the wrist with a dash of technique learned over time. Hehe. Please keep liking and watching!
Excellent tutorial & explanation! I was today years old when I learned what hog rings were! I plan to buy some for purposes of making a trellis (for garden) out of ladder mesh.
Hello Thankful, Thank you so much for saying so. I love hearing good news like this. It was just yesterday I was thinking of using hog rings on a fence myself, Who knew? Right? Please keep liking and watching!
I just replaced the upholstry on my Wifes' 2006 4 Runner and I swear whoever assembled the drivers seat was a day one rookie. I found almost every anchor point had 3 to 4 missed hog rings in each location. I've always used knotched slip joint pliers for my hog rings. Mainly because I don't do that much upolstry! But after all the time it took to remove all the Factories "extra" hog rings I broke down and bought a set of nice angled hog ring pliers.
Mainly because I'm thinking of redoing all of my project cars seats.....
Good video.
My tip for the day:
I usually will drop about a dozen or so, rings in one of those magnetic bowls, rather than have to sort through 500 tangled up rings in a bag. Much easier to seperate 2 or 3 and I can stick the bowl on any metal surface, even on it's side without spilling the hog rings. And a lot harder to knock the dish off the table and spill them all over the floor. Most seat bottoms only need 10 or 12 rings I've found. So a quick sprinkle of hog rings around inside the bowl and they are right there.
Good comment! Thanks for the tips! I have also seen this in factory installations. What I do is drop about 10 hog rings on the table, and they naturally seperate.
Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for posting this video. I learned something today!

Thanks for the video! Needed this because I'll be replacing my seats soon!
You are so welcome! Go for it! I am sure you will do a great job!
Excellent video 👍. Something I learned recently from a company that makes seat covers is to sharpen your pliers. If you make them more pointed it makes for a more seamless transition from the pliers' arms to the rings. I found it helps make it so the arm doesn't get caught as much on listings and foam and such.
I just learned something. I think this would work. Thanks for the comment. Keep watching!

@@oldschoolautoupholstery wow! Thanks for replying so quickly!
I watched the other video but there's no mentioning of the cutters you're using here. Are they just small bolt cutters?
What type of hog ring pliers do you prefer?
@@Odessa45 Hello Odessa, When you say cutters, I think you mean what some people call dikes or side cutters? Or maybe the one that looks like small bolt cutters I got from Harbor Freight. The hog ring pliers I use have a slight curve on the end. I have never been comfortable with the straight hog ring pliers. Please keep liking and watching!
Just discovered your channel and wow! What a massive help!! Do you have any advice/video about the listing wire and the pocket itself? Specifically, what fabric should be used to make it or should it be purchased premade? Huge thanks!
Hello Wes, I am so happy to hear the good news! Any stiff wire works well like a wire coat hanger. Listing can be bought by the roll or can be made from any fabric or vinyl. Please keep liking and watching!
Hey Rudy, can you make video on how to install lifting wire. Thanks
Hello Roller, sure I could I guess. First I need to find out what lifting wire is... Please keep liking and watching!

Hey Rudy, I'm so sorry, What, I wanted is how to install wire in the foam.@@oldschoolautoupholstery
@@roller9158 Hello Roller, Sometimes if it is a new foam with no wire in it, I will tie a string to the listing on the cover side. Then take a long needle and feed it through the foam. Then tie it off in the backside. Like I had to do to these Corvette seats. Great video but doesn t the foam need to be fastened to the frame first ? I'm re doing seat on a 1962 Mercury. I thought the foam had to be glued and fastened first ???
WO! Hold on there! The seat I was working on here is a late-model Mitsubishi. Way different from a 1962 Mercury. When I am working on different cars, I can easily see that every car, year make and model is different. This video is really for the use of hog rings. Thanks for watching!
@@oldschoolautoupholstery Got it figured out. Yes very different !! Thanks
As aëways thanks for the post. QUESTION, If you are building a foam (no spring sub assembly) how do you get a listing wire in to the foam to secure the seat cover listing wire to?
Maybe a short video. Thanks.
Hi, for foam, I will cut a slit that the listing wire will fit into. Then use a thick string to feed thru the back of the foam and tie it off.
Is there a metal piece inside the foam you’re trying to grab a hold of with the ring or is it just biting into that foam itself? Thanks
Hello Kayle, You are so welcome! Car manufactures make sure there is a listing to hog ring to inside the foam. Aftermarket foams do not. So we have to get creative. Please keep liking and watching!
I'm putting some new upholstery on. Do I need to remove the old hog rings, or can I just leave the snipped halves in there? Thanks
Hello Big, You could leave them in there if you want to, But I wouldn't. It just takes a second to remove them. Just sayin'. Please keep liking and watching!
Thank you sir. What is your favorite brand/style of hog ring pliers?
Hello Michael, I don't know about brand as they last a very long time. They all look the same to me. I use the pair that have a slight bend on the end. not the strait ones. Please keep liking and watching!

can you pls. recommend a good hog ring pliers and cutter?
Hello HiFi, I use the angled hog ring pliers and dikes for removing them. I twist, not cut. Thanks for watching!
I can't reach the wires after my back cover installed. I have no ideia how my hand can reach there...
Hello Fernando, Just try, and try again. You can do it I'm sure you can! Please keep liking and watching!
What size hog ring do I need for a front seat on a 2015 Jeep Wrangler?
