Marty Robbins; another voice from the past that you can't go wrong with.
Have you ever heard the Merle Haggard impression of Marty Robbins
Why does an old 80+ year old man love watching you listen, watch and react to pieces of my past?? You go girl, you are beautiful, spirited and wonderfully gifted.
Music ties all together 🎶
There are evil people, both male and female, who prey on other people’s weakness.
81 yo here and loving Britt's reactions. Most songs and comedy she reacts to are old-hat to me. I watch because her reactions are priceless.
Brittany's race, age and gender make her a delight to watch. Some of her reactions are educational.
73 year old grandma here, watching this beautiful expressive young lady react to songs of my childhood is like watching the sunshine. 🌹❤️
Your still relevant pal
"My Woman, My Woman, My Wife!" Love that one, and his voice is amazing.
Yes!!
that one still gets me. My granddad loved Marty Robbins and I still remember him looking over at grandma when this song played.
OH ya...it was on the 8 track in the barn a lot. Working on a tractor, car or what not. Grandma would come in, sometimes this song was on, "lunch time" she'd say. Followed by the warmest smile I have ever seen.
That was real love there.
Devil Woman was also the name of every race car that he drove. On the track he was respected as a driver. On the radio people loved and adored his music. He also arranged for his time on the Grand Old Opry to be the very last slot to give him time to show up after a race.
Very early video of Marty. He's known for his cowboy songs like El Paso (his biggest hit) and Big Iron on his Hip. My personal favorites include: This Time You Gave Me A Mountain, My Woman, My Wife, Don't Worry About Me. He wrote most of his songs and he also raced cars. He was known to finish a race and then head immediately to the Grand Ole Opry to perform.
With Marty Robbins, listen to the rhythms of the drums on this song and El Paso. With this one, you can hear the
swishing of the waves and in El Paso the hoof beats of a galloping horse. Not so much live but in the studio recording
you can. I knew a man whose mother played in his band in Arizona. He was such a gentleman in person.
Saw him in concert. The sound person kept turning down the volume to avoid feedback. He finally said these people paid to hear me. Turn the sound up. I have been doing this a long time if there is feedback I know to back off.
You'll never go wrong with a Marty Robbins song. He is simply the very best! You'd love Don't Worry, and My Woman, My Woman, My Wife. Keep diving into Marty's music!! ❤
I love watching videos of Merle Haggard impersonating Marty Robins. He was spot on. :-)
Yes and Merle could do others like Johnny Cash and Buck Owens among others.
I saw.a clip on that. Merle was great. Marty's reactions are funny.
Marty Robbins was the last of the singing cowboys.
Marty Robbins has a son named Ronnie Robbins, who looks and sounds almost exactly like him. He even has the same facial mannerisms as him.
It was trippy for me when I discovered him. I first saw him in a video performing with Marty when he was about 16. He carried Marty onto the stage. Then the next performance I saw was when he was probably in his 30's. He was performing a medley of Marty's songs just a couple of years after Marty's passing. Then I saw a few recent videos of him at an older age, performing some of Marty's songs.
So in a matter of a few minutes, I discovered Marty had a son that looked and sounds just like him, and I watched him grow from a young teenager to a seasoned old man. As I said, trippy.
White Sports Coat was a big hit Marty Robbins also, great reaction
I believe the small guitar he plays is called a Parlor Guitar. You might not get too many requests for it but you should take a listen to Roy Clark's song Yesterday When I was young. A very moving song
🔥🖤🎼🖤🔥 .. hey Britt .. I agree with you about Marty's voice. It has lasted the test of time. Nice post 😊
Marty Robbins was and still is one of the best. There was never any bad rumors about him. He was married to the same woman until the day he died. RIP Marty You are still missed more than 40 years after God called you home.
Love Marty Robbins.❤❤❤
What a great list of songs he sang over the years. He is best known for his western songs.
I think the instrument you're noticing is just a nylon string guitar.
Instead of metal strings, it has nylon strings. Which has a softer sound to it. Classical guitars have nylon strings, but it's hard for me to tell if it's a classical guitar with the transparent video.
We had a dance that was specific to this song. I had forgotten about it untill now. Thanks for bringing those "sock hop' memories back. You are so sweet.
What I enjoy most is the fact that the youth have discovered the music of the past and are understanding that county music is outstanding from the 50's & 60's.
Please give Mr. Robbins a reaction to his 2 follow up songs to "El Paso" - quite a great continuing story. You are doing great work - Thanks..
The absolute best voice and vocalist EVER in Country Music. Jim Glaser is close, but Marty is the best.
Performers back in the day had that neat appearance while they were doing their thing.
The sound you keep hearing is the legendary Grady Martin on guitar.
I'm sure someone already said the style of the song is calypso.
cool vocal, " el paso" another great song from marty. some other cool vocals from this period: johhny horton "north to alaska" harry belefonte " jamaica farewell"
jimmy clanton " just a dream " guy mitchell " singing the blues"gene vincent "you belong to me" conway twitty " its only make believe"
When he spoke, My arty sounded like a guy from the back hills, but when he sang, it was purely angelic.
Marty Robbins is LEGEND. El Paso, My Woman, My Wife ect.....
Several great songs suggested. I will absolutely beg you to do the following three Marty Robbins songs.
1. Man Walks Among Us
2. The Bend in the River
3. The Ballad of Utah Carol
As a bonus since you have mentioned you grew up in the church an amazing song of faith…
The Master’s Call
Please listen to these. You won’t be sorry. All of Marty’s songs are great though.
An incredible vocal performance by one of the best ever -- and that 'yodel' in the middle 'let go of me'..... For an even deeper Marty cut try "The Ballad of Utah Carroll".
People always blame someone or something else. "The devil made me do it."
"It sounds like surf music."
Marty sings about their shack by the sea. And, devil woman you're evil like the dark coral reef.
I think it is supposed to about people who live by the sea, so the sound suits that theme.
Yes, it is a South Sea Island story.
My fav Marty song "This Time You Gave Me a Mountain"
I don’t consider this toxic at all. In fact the opposite. He makes a mistake and acknowledges it and confesses. And goes back home to his woman. We all make mistakes yet rarely do we do anything about it.
I just love your reviews and on artists that I grew up listening to.😊
Yeah I first was kind of wedged into rock ‘n’ roll Led Zeppelin in the Beatles the psychedelic era and I thought Marty Robbins was SquaresVille man but then I started listening to him and I couldn’t stop listening to him
you gotta listen to you got a dive into Marty Robbins I tell you it’s wonderful
Marty Robbins had that voice until the day he died. He was extremely talented
Actually, he didn't get caught cheating he confessed. People confess when they are ashamed of something they've done. It isn't the woman's fault more than it is his, but there are crazy, obsessed men and women out there that refuse to let go of someone.
Britt: Read a Marty Robbins bio. He was a PLAYER. So, songs like this one are him singing his life!
No matter how much time goes by. l will never change my mind & always say, the "the sexiest" voices in country music are Marty Robbins & Conway Twitty.
And Jim Reeves ❤
And most of all Elvis!
"It Takes Two To Make a Thing Go Right!"
He was also a race car driver
Actually, rather than Hawaiian, Devil Woman sounds Caribbean to me. Marty's voice was one of a kind. Instantly recognizable.
You should see Merle Haggard imitate Marty in front of Marty!
Check out My Woman,My Woman, My Wife by Marty
Devil Woman was a euphemism for alcohol and he was battling alcoholism in the song.
Marty Robbins was more famous for his Cowboy/Western songs although has you can see here he did his fair share of pop/country songs. For his Cowboy Songs listen to his El Paso trilogy, the order you need to hear them in are El Paso (the cowboy's side), Feleena (the woman's side) and El Paso City (an overview later in life/future). Also Cross the Brazos, Little Man, Big Iron and Five Brothers. His pop/country songs include A White Sports Coat, My Woman My Woman My Wife and He Gave Me A Mountain.
It's a nylon string classic guitar. Great stuff.
A song to listen by Marty Robins is "The Masters Call"
That guitar is a Martin Terz, also known as a parlor guitar. It's usually tuned 1\3 higher than larger guitars. The Hawaiian sound isn't unusual for Marty, he loved Hawaiian music.
As for the song, it wasn't him getting caught, he confessed. He also said "let go of my arm" but you cut him off. He was only there to tell this woman the affair was over.
Cool Water.
Mary changed the locks she just needs him to be served. Devil Woman is a voodoo queen
"It takes two to tango... or in this case, to hula." LOL
I recommend Marty's classic song, "White Sport Coat... Classic.
I also love his song, from later in his career, "The Chair"... Not to be confused with George Strait's hit song of the same name, which shares only the same name, and is NOT the same song...
As for THIS song, "Devil Woman"... I don't know for sure if this song is autobiographical, but I would bet it is... I do know that his wife's name was Marizona...
I LOVE that song, "The Chair". I get chills when l listen to it! I don't see to many people who remember it & have never seen anyone react to it. I could never find it on any album or CD. I go to yt when l want to hear it.
Only with every breath I take by Gene Pitney ❤
You should hear Don't Worry About Me, maybe his greatest love song.
React to Kiss an Angel Good Morning, Charlie Pride
The best STORY TELLER Ever 😊
Hi, You commented on Marty Robbins' voice being beautiful and wanting to hear him sing a love song. May I suggest you find and listen to his recording of Unchained Melody from about 1960. I think it is one of the best recordings he ever made. Enjoy your site and your comments.
It is either a South Sea Island or Trinidad story. My mother was Javanese and she thought that the Devil Woman was actually a sorceress, which would have been a taboo there.
Mary had superpowers😂
Marty Robinson "Mr.Shorty" is a great song!!!
Personally I liked El Paso City .....the next chapter after El Paso ...but he had a lot of good songs ...My Woman My Woman My Wife
I.never clicked on the hawaii sense. Marty did spend time in hawaii and has some Hawaiian songs.
There is an old sea story about Sirens (female demons) that inhabit the sea shore. Their voices are called the siren song. Loosely related are stories of Mermaids. They werent always beneficial beautiful women with fish tails. They were females who lured sailors to death along rocky shores.
what a voice! what a storyteller!
Great performer.
It definitely has that surf sound alright
Ah Devil woman, I know her well and use to be married to her.
In the south it's called a Tennessee Flat Top Box but it's about Guitar.
Let’s add Nat King Cole to this adventure back in time.
I love it when you sing! 🤩
I dig the bassist in the background.
The El Paso trio of songs and Big Iron.
Marty Robbins was very influenced by Hawaiian music throughout his career. He made several Hawaiian themed songs.
My grandfather used to call square dancing rounds to this song. To this day I still can recite the rounds from hearing him practicing it at home.
Also, The Girl With Gardenas In Her Hair
Marty played a 1/2 or 1/3 size guitar.
Great song and reaction thanks
And you need to check out him in later years because he had what was called back then mutton chops just like Elvis Presley
Proverbs 7 explains the song very well.
Oops another Hawaii reference ! Lol
You want, you need , you must go ! 😀🌴🌴
Devil woman is tempting him and he doesnt want to be tempted.
Now you HAVE to react to 'Stay' by Sugarland - and it must be the 'official video' version.
It is a Ukelele and it is inspired from Polynesian music. The difference is the reference! Polynesians do not think any devil exists -unless it is within in you!
@bobbyquinting3918
One quote from the 1977 Movie, "The Sentinel", haunts me, at certain times:
That there is a devil, there is no doubt,
but is he trying to get in us, or is he trying to get out!
Did you know Marty Robbins also drove a race car in nascar
So is Marty the Don Ho of this morality tale?😁 Next try Marty's masterpiece El Paso, Big Iron is also great. Nice one Britt!
Whether The Devil Woman, Wicked Feleena or Helen of Sparta for that matter, Britt obviously doesn't understand the power of women and the evil, but delicious matriarchy which holds men captive.
You should see Marty react to Merle Haggard do Marty singing that song its priceless if you find the utube video of it you'll love it
I agree with Anthony but listen to them in this order El Paso, Faleena, and El Paso City.
Merle Haggard was legendary for his impersonations. Hank Snow, Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, and Marty Robbins. Not only does he sing just like them, he changed his body posture and holds/plays guitar just like them, it’s a full body impression.
There is a fantastic clip of Merle Haggard and Marty Robbins together on a tv broadcast and the host asks Merle to do his Marty Impression. Merle puts on Marty’s very 1970s jacket and sings Devil Woman with Marty sitting right there. And somewhere around the 5:20 mark Marty’s face goes from “this is pretty good” to something more like “holy crap Merle could just replace me” lol.
ua-cam.com/video/3qJRxrmH-po/v-deo.html
There's a great video of Merle Haggard impersonating Marty Robbins by singing this song in front of Marty Robbins during a little concert they had.
he's playing a parlour guitar,a smaller bodied guitar like bobbie gentry plays.
Women set the tone for any relationship.
Wow, momma, easy up on the poor man.
Devil woman tryn' to unsubscribe me, that's what youtube was thinkin' when Susan was in charge.
Marty is right.
the 60s no auto-tuned THEN
I agree with your point he is equally guilty.
I LOVE THIS SONG PARTLY BECAUSE I LIKE TO WATCH WOMEN REACT TO IT LOL
Nylon guitar 🎶 that’s the sound. You go girl
I’m a new fan of your channel. Your personality is great for music reactions. 👍🏼
I've known this song for most of my life but never thought it sounded Hawaiian until now.
