Marillion - Holidays in Eden- From Wikipedia -Holidays in Eden is the sixth studio album by the British neo-progressive rock band Marillion, released in 1991. Recorded at Hook End Manor in Oxfordshire and Westside Studios in London, it was the band's second album with vocalist Steve Hogarth and the first completely written without previous lead singer Fish.
Partly due to producer Christopher Neil, many of the songs feature a mainstream pop rock sound as opposed to progressive rock of previous works, and Hogarth has described Holidays in Eden as "Marillion's 'pop'est album ever". It reached number 7 in the UK Albums Chart.Holidays in Eden was released in Europe on 24 June 1991 by EMI Records on CD and cassette. It peaked at number 7 in the UK, spending 7 weeks in the charts,] and became Marillion's first studio album not to gain any sales certification. The album reached number 7 in the Netherlands and number 10 in Germany.
In the U.S., Holidays in Eden was issued on 25 February 1992 by the I.R.S. Records label The American edition featured two new tracks, "A Collection" and "How Can It Hurt", which were the B-sides of the original "No One Can" and "Cover My Eyes (Pain and Heaven)" singles, respectively. In addition, the track order was rearranged and the title for "No One Can" was lengthened by adding "… Take You Away from Me". Finally, slightly different cover art was used, featuring the original cover overlaid with the new "MAR" "ILL" "ION" logo and the album title in the middle left of the cover in a straight line, rather than the original circle around the moon at the centre top.
As part of a series of Marillion's first eight studio albums, EMI Records re-released Holidays in Eden on 23 February 1998 with 24-bit digital remastered sound and a second disc containing bonus tracks.[nb 4][5] A new 180g heavy weight vinyl pressing[nb 5] identical to the original 1991 edition was released in 2012.
Three singles, "Cover My Eyes (Pain and Heaven)", "No One Can" and "Dry Land" were released, with the first preceding the album. "Cover My Eyes (Pain and Heaven)" was a re-write of Hogarth's earlier band How We Live's song "Simon's Car". "Dry Land" had previously been the title track of How We Live's only album released in 1987. Each of the three singles were minor hits in the UK attaining Top 40 spots
At the Marillion Weekend 2011, the band performed the entire album with a slightly revised track order ("Waiting to Happen" moved to the fifth spot), the two additional tracks from the US CD and two unrelated songs as encores. This was released as part of the DVD/Blu-Ray set Holidays in Zélande, but also as a standalone CD Holidays in Eden 2011Hogarth said in 2012:
"’Holidays’ was probably the most commercial album overall that we made or had the greatest amount of commercial songs on it. Obviously “Splintering Heart” or “This Town” is not exactly pop music. There were things within that album that were not overtly commercial at all but we had taken a decision to work with a pop producer; Chris Neil (It was EMI’s influence). Originally that album was going to be made with Chris Kimsey who the band had worked with a lot and who did Misplaced Childhood, more of a rock'n roll producer, he was actually making the Stones "Steel wheels" album with them while we were rehearsing. In the end the Stones served him with a writ, preventing him working with anybody else but them for the next year, we had suddenly lost our producer and EMI came in and our A&R man suggested Chris Neil who was known as a pop producer. There was that feeling that this could be an experiment and we were quite reluctant to meet him. He won us round by introducing himself as Marillion being his son’s favourite band. He told us that his son would never forgive him if he made a crap record so we did that with him. That was probably why ”Holidays in Eden” was so poppy, and then we reacted to that and went 360 degrees.Track listing

Many people probably disagree with me but I feel that H is the best thing to happen to Marillion!!!
ABSOLUTELY agree with both of your comments. I have seen both of them with the band and Fish alone. Love Fish BUT H IS Marillion.
Bonnie Boswell bless you
I totally agree with you on this. 15 studio albums on since fish left, there really is no debate anymore in my eyes and there hasn't been for many, many, many years.
But without Fish they wouldn't have been what they were when they brought in H. It was Fish era Marillion that got me into the band but unlike a lot of old-school fans, I continued to follow them when H took over. The H era albums have better production values and the band are better musicians and one cannot argue with their continued success.
I also believe their music has become a little more accessible with H - less traditional prog.
Saying that, I do believe Fish is a sublime wordsmith. One thing they did lose is fantastic lyrics when he left.
If Fish could sing as well as H then I'd disagree with you :)
H IS ABSOLUTELYONE OF THE GREATEST FRONTMANOF THE HISTORY OF ROCK...

This touchs my heart. I love Marillion...
thats the point of music :)
I want Holidays in Eden...Bravo MARILLION!
Such a powerful album.
If you were going through some tough times at the release of this album, such as divorce, a split, or job loss, family loss, then this album is a rollercoaster of emotions.
From the starting song, full of emotion and anger, then as the album progresses things start to look better, before the final explosion of emotion as you let everything out, before the last few minutes of calm, and relief.
lol you’re not wrong
i like this record
A great album, especially the This Town trilogy. I still play the album loads.
Es was sensationell SUPERGEIL
Great album !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Merci the best rock prog band
a fragment of love 😢
Always had this on my walkman when cycling. Still absolut beautiful album.
My favourite album 💕
I am addicted to Hogarth Marillion and I appreciate and enjoy Mr. Fish’s solo efforts.
hogarth has a VERY powerful voice. its great!
Hogarth has a good voice and their first album after Fish is quite good ... but IMHO nowhere near the previous Fish-involved albums.
Honestly, I've always preferred Marillion with Hogarth. More soulful for me.
@@henrikcarlsen1881 Absolutely agree.
For me Marillion is a big Band with Fish and Hogart.. Two different faces of the beautifull thing
I still find it difficult to listen to this album. When it came out it was during a long dark night of the soul in my life and every word and every note touch me to the very depth of my being. Even after almost 30 years it still does.
gb5uq bless you
Amazing that you're saying this because I feel the same. At the time I was convinced I was losing my mind, but actually showing the first signs of OCD. I t was fucking horrifying, and I had to stop listening to this album. So I empathize, deeply ❤. Be good to yourself.
Music is the prophetic
My favorite Marillion album.
This is a very, very good album! One of top 5!
Massive Fish era fan - very supportive of Hogarth - different is good
Became a Marillion fan when this album dropped in 1991. What a great listening experience, back then and now! Have had people trying to explain its supposed inferiority in the Marillion catalogue to me ever since - in vain. It gets a little poppy in the middle, but all in all it is a rather dark and very atmospheric album and already hints at the darkness that the Marillios would unfold completely with Brave an album later.
YES!!!
Great album , I really love
Steve's emotional voice!
Scotchgod H is a powerhouse who belongs on stage.
I was really confused because I didn't remember posting this comment. Then I just realized we had same profile picture lol
Oh how I loved that record...
Rake's Progress is amazing!
Very good record.
100 Nights really sticks around: a good thing.
I love this album this town can go away but the rest :-)
Bonnie Boswell I am with you on that one.
beautiful
I wish Mr. Fish the best of luck: I love his solo efforts!!! I have purchased quite a few of Mr. Fish’s recordings.
This was Steve Hogarth, not Fish.
brilliant album , saw this tour, so many memories attached to this album
Saw then at Cambridge Corn Exchange on this tour....fantastic night, fantastic memories from what now seems oh so long ago :)
Yes I saw them at st David's in Cardiff h was on top form
Haven't listened to this album for quite a while, so I'd forgotten just how damned good it is.
thats when you know you have great music. when it ages like fine wine. ALLLLL that stuff from genesis, marillion, rush, yes, supertramp, etc ALLL ages fucking FANTASTIC
This group is particularly epic.. A great show music performed by exceptional musicians Rich melodic speech, harmonies breathtaking orchestration constantly renewed in the use of the stamps of the instruments, in short a Babylonian sound architecture erected by humbles and impetuous interpretes-composers
Haunting album. I like it.
Reminds me of my childhood 😍
Minxy Moo I was in graduate school when my old friend, Laura, sent this to me. College professors tend to be rather childish: I can relate to your comment. Thank you 🙏 I wasn’t the one that was childish; it was everyone else. I feel rather childish accusing others of being so.
An excellent top album with a unique message
She spends your money on me. It's a unique message, you're not wrong.

Can any song have a more wonderful ending than this? A great album..........
Fecho os olhos, viajo no passado e nesse Som mágico do Marrilion... 🤗🎙🎶🎸💖💕👏👌🏻👏
Marillion lembra ; Genesis ...
I did not like this album too much when I first heard it. It grew on me after awhile.
Magnum Opus I have always loved this one.
@@katemurphy1915 I first heard Marillion on CHOM fm radio out of Montreal. Then saw them in Syracuse, NY. Addicted to their music ever since!

Sencillamente...Brutal😊
This is really good!
Ratcity5 Hogarth Marillion is incapable of making mediocre music.
❤
Marilion sensácional excepcional excelente muito bom ouvir marilion. Uma soberania internacional melhor voz guitarra e banda do mundo.
Prog, AOR Pop who cares, this is wonderful and Hogarth!
A quien pueda interesar. No One Can, Cover My Eyes are my two favourite songs from this album .
So we close our eyes 😌
Gracias !
Didn't have any problems with Marillion moving on with a new vocalist, and I really liked the music/production/sound of Season's End, but this album moved just a bit much into pop and commercial sounding territory for my tastes. Don't think I ever played anything on this past the first 3 songs. It's not a bad album, but they seemed like they were trying to figure out where to go, and the direction they were leaning wasn't to my taste. I do respect quite a bit that they were willing to push their own boundaries as a band though.
Time said this album is much better after "Brave".
H brought this band back to life!!!
@@katemurphy1915 And he sent me a birthday card!
To me it's like Genesis without Peter Gabriel is like Pink Floyd without Roger Waters is like Marillion without Fish. All still good music but it's becomming to mainstream and has lost it's sharp edge and sarcasm.
The best group after Genesis
Don't forget IQ
Ha same as me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssss!
Avant...genesis
@@philippelouer6979 Oui enfin, chacun ses goûts , hein...

Holidays in Eden at the start sounds like a rush song from the mid 1980's.
Como escuché ese cd. Como un mil veces😄
Muy pocas, yo millones de veces.
Además de verlos en vivo 1992
Thank you, Laura, wherever you are……….
💖👍

I find the live's versions better
Still waiting………
some of this is good, but the emotive slow stuff lacks fish's wordplay. Hogie was better doing his own thing.
Agree
This sounds like a "diesel Ferrari"...
João Bayam I love your simile.
Wheres a collection?
B side. Not on the album proper.
The sound always the same, but the voice is very different. Fish's contemporain voice make more sensations
This version doesn't have A Collection?
Not the vinyl version no
Who is him?
Steve Hogarth

Great album! Unfortunately their last 2 albums "Fear" and "An Hour Before Dark" IMO are not very good, endless rambling and no song structures.
