of course you have to do the Live version from the " PULSE " concert, many people on this planet are considering the solo in this version as the best ever played on earth.Greetings from Germany, nice reactiones
This concert is (or at least can be) a life changing experience. If you could listen to the solo all day, it's longer and even more intense on the Pulse video. Highly recommended
The solos differ every show, and there are versions of Comfortably Numb from that tour that have fantastic solos on UA-cam, but likely not the version from Earl's Court that moyesboy1 is referring to. The one most fans go to as the ultimate version of the Comfortably Numb solo is this one: ua-cam.com/video/vi7cuAjArRs/v-deo.html&ab_channel=idin
During the solo on Sorrow, I told ppl sitting next to me, we are witnessing greatness and the CN solo just solidified it. The best concert I've ever seen and I've seen most all classic rock bands during their days.
Pulse is a must see. You will get to see what their live show is all about. They started with their light show in the 60's and progressed to this. So awesome to see the awesome effects in sync with the awesome music. Haha A lot of awesomes there. Sorry.
Truth. I’m a massive fan of The Endless River (as the name suggests) and, in my opinion, having heard all of their albums, it’s the best. Not much vocals but it’s the raw feeling and completeness that I love. I think Comfortably Numb is, Gilmour’s best performance as far as emotion right up there Marooned.
Sorry to repeat myself but Pink Floyd are deeper than the Mariana trench, cooler than an iceberg in a river of liquid nitrogen and more zen than 1,000 Buddhist monasteries. The solo in this song is extended on the Pulse live tour, definitely worth a watch for the epic guitar solo.
Asia: "Don't you do that"... Yeah, NEVER EVER interrupt a David Gilmour solo..... I'm going to Echo everyone else... Do this song LIVE AT PULSE. Also do Echoes from Pompeii early 70's.
agreed!!! PULSE Live version of "Comfortable Numb" could be in the top 10 best concerts of all time. have to experience it before you pass into the next life. Dont miss out on it.
I'll have to repeat what was said during the live event, the live pulse 94 concert of this song is as great of a ending solo that you will ever hear, David plays the full version and in this studio version they chopped over 2 minutes of it out. You will thank me later for having you experience it.
Loved this reaction! Roger Waters wrote the lyrics and said that the song is about two things. First, it's about how he felt as a child when he was sick with a high fever. It happened to him again after he'd become an adult where he went into a state of delirium and felt detached from reality. The lyrics "When I was a child I had a fever/My hands felt just like two balloons" describe exactly what he felt as a child. he says "I remember having the flu or something, an infection with a temperature of 105 and being delirious. It wasn't like the hands looked like balloons, but they looked way too big, frightening." Later in an interview at an LA radio station Waters' said a part of the song also refers to the time he had bad stomach cramps that he thought would keep him from going on. The doctor backstage gave him a shot of something he was sure could've killed an elephant and he did the show barely able to lift his hands above his knees.
Right, nowadays it’s so easy to look this stuff up, but people still post rumors they heard 20 years ago. There are videos you can watch of Waters explaining this, yet people still write their own bullshit opinions about what its about!
@@MikeB12800 They certainly do. This was what I learned from Waters chatting with the DJ at KLOS back in the very late 70's. Probably 79 or thereabouts. Anyway, KLOS was an awesome rock station. Dont know if they're still in existence. Haven't been back to LA in some 30 years or so.
I agree, You def need to see the live version from the "Pulse" concert....it is the greatest guitar solo of all time...it is a must reaction for sure and will change you
Please try to check out Pink Floyd performing Comfortably Numb live at the Pulse Concert (1994). The extended guitar solo and spectacular light show combine for an unforgettable performance that should not be missed.
Asia nailed it on the first pause. The original demo of this song was actually titled “The Doctor.” So many people pushing you to watch the Pulse live version…and I get that, but I’ll always prefer the original studio cut because of the way the vocals between Waters and Gilmour play off of each other.
This is Pink Floyd having a psychological break before a concert. The doctor is giving him a shot to be able to perform. The album works to this point. The album was made into a movie and follows his regression.
You really should react to the live version of Comfortably Numb from the PULSE concert. An INCREDIBLE visual experience, with the greatest (and most emotional) live guitar solo of all time.
It's a must for you to see the live version at the pulse concert Earl's Court London 1994 it will blow your mind.plus the song was written because a band member got injured before going on stage and the injection that he was given so he could go on stage with the band gave him the feeling of being comfortably numb.
David Gilmour plays a little slower than other guitar gods, because each and every one of his notes has so much more to say, that it just takes a little longer. 😎
Gilmour takes his time to exude every emotion out of the guitar, as a follower of keyboard music. I have always loved Gilmour's work. Best guitarist ever. And yes the Pulse version is absolutely genius.
This song is da bomb. Loved your reaction! The story behind this song was that bassist and one of the singers Roger waters was in a lot of pain due to an ulcer or some such and was medicated so he could perform live. He's the guy singing during the verses. The singer during the choruses ("There is no pain, you are receding, etc..." is David Gilmour, who also plays both of the awesome guitar solos in this song). Gilmour's guitar sound is truly singular.
Replay and play this song from the 1994 live performance of Pulse. David Gilmour's solo is perfected there. And it is, of course, a visually perfect work ...
there isn't the best solo..........there is the solo that each prefer.........that's different. my favourite ones are (both solos) Confortably numb studio version....but who i am to say that they are the best? i can only say they are the best FOR ME
Agree.....and so sayeth my ears back in the mid70's when I heard the disturbing Ode to frontman Syd Barrett in '75!! But don't miss the forest for the trees.......these Gents did ROCK!!!! NO matter the cause or genre!!!
the 2nd solo often gets pole position in rankings, but it is always a toss up. Stairway to Heaven and Eruption and Bohemian Rhapsody and countless others have brilliant solos. Gilmour gets the nod because he does so much so slowly it is like a Glacial Diamond Cathedral
Bless you! (for the sneeze) Pink Floyd is and has been my lifelong favorite group, I'll be turning 66 later this month. A lot of their lyrics are also excellent and deep. It's sometimes good to read the lyrics along with a song after you have heard it the first time so you don't miss the meaning, which is an individual thing.
I've always thought of this song as more being about depression. It's a song my brother related to a lot when he was depressed. The idea of "the child is grown, the dream is gone". I always saw the parts that sound like drugs as being about your brain's self defence mechanisms blocking you off and building a wall around you. In the album both interpretations are pretty valid imo.
Comfortably numb has kind of a double meaning in this song, the drug reference obviously, but reaching that point of being dead inside, where you are so numb to the world that you find comfort in it.
This is considered the greatest guitar solo ever...David Gilmore pulls you in and takes you on an unexpected journey...and every time I listen ...it takes me on a new journey
Absolutely, their 1994 Pulse concert version of "Comfortably Numb" is off the charts! Not only the music, (which is phenomenal), but the Lazar and Light show with every song makes this whole concert a Show, a Great Performance. Pink Floyd is Legendary. Also "Sorrow" from the same 1994 Pulse concert, another incredible song
I've heard this song a couple times a week, every week, for the last 40 yrs.gives me chills every time.i still have the cassette tape of the album.its very well pl ayed, lol.great reaction guys.by the way ,the consensus in comments is do the the live pulse version.its honestly life changing ,mind altering.
And the great David Gilmour mesmerizes again!!! Admit it, you were totally hypnotized by his guitar prowess!!! I'm still under his spell after 40+ years!!! Enjoy the journey!
You've now heard one of the most iconic guitar solos ever by one of the most unique musicians ever!! Glad you feel their vibe. Hope you listen to more Floyd.
I love the honesty and sincerity of your reactions, there's no bs. You guys are so refreshing, and I'm glad I found the Hall and Oates vid this morning. Take care.
It’s a song about medication but not street drugs. Roger Waters did have a fever when he was a kid and was given a drug. Later he was doing a gig and he was in pain. A doctor gave him a shot to help him. He got so spaced out he just about managed to do the next set but was so far gone he couldn’t do an encore.
It's funny you bring up, " Why would I listen to this crap?", My music diversity has increased widely over the last decade. Now I'm listening to stuff I scoffed at once upon a time thinking, "You know what? This is actually really incredible work!" Thank you for giving Pink Floyd a chance, my all time fav, but also... how great is it to stretch those boundries?
As you go through life your brain experiences change, so you can find that music you disliked, or were indifferent to at one point in time, you find you like years later. This can even apply to an artist you like!
Try whole albums: Dark side of the moon, Wish you were here, The Wall, Meddle, Atom heart mother, Ummagumma. Look for songs: Echoes, Atom heart mother, Shine on crazy diamond, Saucerful of secrets, Interstellar overdrive.
The best way to listen to Pink Floyd. You need to get some black lights in a dark room with a pair of old school headphones. Sit back in a beanbag chair and press play. If you get a chance watch the movie The Wall
the song isnt really about drugs tbh, the line 'when i was a child, i caught a fleeting glimpse out of the corner of my eye, i turned to look but it was gone, i cannot put my finger on it now the child has grown the dream is gone, i have become comfortably numb' summarizes the meaning of the song, its about how as we get older we forget our dreams and the things that made us feel such strong emotions as a child are just a fleeting glimpse now and we all can so easily become comfortably numb.
It is. There is a lot more to it than drugs, but it is definitely about drugs too. He even said he was sick, and a doctor gave him some drug that let him help him do a show. But since he doesn't specify that in the song (of course), it goes to any drug that makes you comfortably numb, specifically needle type. And a person can take what they want from it.
@@saintdon4461 I've seen that movie more than any other movie on the planet, with and without meds. I can just about quote the thing from memory. I know he has overdosed, but the doctor came in and gave him a shot that let him 'keep you going for the show'. -- As a side note, I ordered Pink Floyd 'The Wall' from their website back in January. They kept saying a few weeks, they didn't have any in stock, etc... Cancelled the order the end of March. Guess have to get it off ebay
The song was written in sections one being the time waters got hepatitis and got a shot and his arms and hands became numb but he performed anyways and none of the fans cared. Another line that keep That'll keep you going through the show," referring to getting medicated before going on-stage for stomach cramps. Then another section about light and dark being The light are the parts that begin "When I was a child...," which Gilmour sings. The dark are the "Hello, is there anybody in there" which waters sings.
Pink Floyd one of the best of all time my friends..guys bring us TIME next!!...BRING IT. the big misconception is...drugs not needed to be hit by Floyd
This song when used in the movie The Wall, was a conversation with his manager trying to wake him up from being too drugged up and trying to get him ready for a concert. His dialog are the inner thoughts going on at the time.
You know, I heard all these songs 30 or 40 years ago. I LOVE them but when I watch you all react to them it feels like I'm watching it again for the first time. Thank you for that!
Roger does the theatrical vocals and David comes in with those smooth Beach Boys sounding vocals and harmonies. They compliment each other so well. David can scream and get gravely in some PF songs as well.
This is my favorite song of all time!! I was very fortunate to be able to see them in concert 3 times. I copied this from a site named Auralcave, "In an interview released in the 80s, Waters said that much of the song comes from something that really happened one evening when, in order to allow him to perform in Philadelphia, the doctor gave him a sedative for a severe stomach ache, which had probably caused by nerves. On the stage, his hands were numb and his vision blurred, but none of this derailed the crowd, who continued to dance and sing. And it was out of this that one of the main themes of The Wall came about: the disconnect between the public and the band."
PS when the video went a bit blurry during the solo, I like to think that was your camera being emotionally moved by the eloquence of David Gilmour's guitar solo.
You know what I'm going to say here...you gotta here the Pulse live version and even the live at Pompeii. Similar performances with slight variations but both will give you chills with that guitar solo! Guaranteed chills y'all!!
This band is extremely deep and the instrumentals and guitar work is amazing!!! It’s bluesy and airy and makes you feel like you’re floating! Pink Floyd is more of an experience than just a band.
I like what you are doing. If you liked this Pink Floyd song you really should do a reaction video of the live version of this song on the Pulse concert. It is totally amazing trust me on this. Check out comfortably numb live on the Pulse concert.
For me this song is about the first time my Boy gave me Triple Widow pane and asked me all kinds of questions before we dropped Acid to make sure I could handle it! (The Greatest experience of my life) Even though some would consider me Highly successful now I would trade it all for that feeling of bliss!!!
Pink Floyd is in the Guinness Book of Records for the Dark Side of the Moon album. It was in the Billboard top 200 for over 700 week's wish is over 20 year's. From the first song on there albums to the last it tells a story. I've been lucky to have seen them 3 time's Maybe the greatest show ever. But anyway Great Reaction you two Stay Safe ❤️❤️❤️
You have to watch this live from the Pulse performance!! To see David Gilmour play this guitar solo live is crazy!!🎸 The visuals from this concert are mind blowing!!🎶💙🎵🎶
Thanks for the reaction :) enjoyed it. I'm an old school listener/rocker from back in the 1980s. However thanks more to whoever wrote the lyrics in such a moronic way :) My favourite bodged-up lyric on there was "I caught a fleeting glimps" haha. Pink Floyd (as you might know?) really needs to be listened to in context to be appreciated/understood/enjoyed - the song is part of the whole story of the album.
i've always been a huge pink floyd fan. when you listen to comfortably numb, you can hear and feel like the first part of each verse is someone is speaking to you and the second part is what you're thinking and feeling
It' part of a concept album which is also a movie. The main character is Pink, a musician. In this scene they found him in his room after a breakdown because of stress, drugs, alcohol and psychic problems.

@@stanleymyrick4068 and in the movie the wall the lead singer 'pink' has overdosed as this song starts
@@stanleymyrick4068 lol..ive bought the wall about three times but lost each one
Easily my favourite band, David Gilmour is a God. You should react to their song Keep Talking, from the PULSE concert 🔥
This song when used in the movie The Wall, was a conversation with his manager trying to wake him up from being too drugged up and trying to get him ready for a concert. His dialog are the inner thoughts going on at the time.
I love how Asia stopped you from pausing during the solo. You we're about to get your hand slapped.
One of most iconic performances of all time it's Pink Floyd with one of the greatest stage shows ever just what you would expect from them
David Gilmore can express every emotion thru a guitar
All the greats do... and he certainly is one of them...
Cant wait to see yall check out WISH YOU WERE HERE. LOVE PINK FLOYD
Yeah, this version doesn’t hold a candle to the Pulse live one!
You know, I heard all these songs 30 or 40 years ago. I LOVE them but when I watch you all react to them it feels like I'm watching it again for the first time. Thank you for that!
PULSE CONCERT
Pink Floyd has always been one of my fav bands. Only fav band I did not get to see live in concert. Still bums me out. Love you guys. ML&R
As many have said, make sure to do the live "Pulse" version of this song, AND the Pulse (restored and re-edited) "Sorrow".
You are in for a show!!!
Roger does the theatrical vocals and David comes in with those smooth Beach Boys sounding vocals and harmonies. They compliment each other so well. David can scream and get gravely in some PF songs as well.
Saw Pink Floyd live in 1986 Atlanta Ga. The Omni.. The most beautiful and awe inspiring band I’ve ever seen..
Need to watch this song live from the Pulse live concert
You know what I'm going to say here...you gotta here the Pulse live version and even the live at Pompeii. Similar performances with slight variations but both will give you chills with that guitar solo! Guaranteed chills y'all!!
Pink Floyd is a lifetime of experience put to music and lyrics. One song feeds another. Their albums feed off each other. Amazing group.
I love watching people experiencing this for the first time. I remember when I did way back in the day just amazing
One of the best guitar solos ever...by one of THE BEST EVER!
Y’all should’ve done the Live Pulse concert version. Mind blown!
I've been lucky to have seen them 3 time's
Maybe the greatest show ever.
But anyway Great Reaction you two
Stay Safe ❤️❤️❤️
You have to watch this live from the Pulse performance!! To see David Gilmour play this guitar solo live is crazy!!🎸 The visuals from this concert are mind blowing!!🎶💙🎵🎶
I first heard Pink Floyd in 1969. Saw them a couple times live in the 70’s. They are still today one of my top favorite bands.✌️
I could hang with you two for days and broaden your musical library so much! You rock!
Pink Floyd were masters of blending, bending and layering sounds. I just love them.
Definitely listen to their song Great gig in the sky
I saw Pink Floyd live in 2005 at live8 in Hyde Park and it was the most amazing experience of my life. I can not truly describe it. ❤️
Best song ever written. I saw them live in Copenhagen 1994. I had chills for 2 hours strait
Their music 🎶 is the perfect form of simplicity it combines style and function with a purpose of hitting every note right
It' part of a concept album which is also a movie. The main character is Pink, a musician. In this scene they found him in his room after a breakdown because of stress, drugs, alcohol and psychic problems.
