Susan? Just a quick note, for those of us still struggling with “heavy hands” or filling up the papers tooth. You can continue with your study and not throw it in the trash if it does not want to take another layer, you can spray a workable fixative on your painting and continue your picture! I use Krylon’s Workable fixative, I can even find it at Walmart! So very affordable! I have also had some success with just removing some of the pastel with a brush or a kneaded eraser! So don’t give up and keep painting!

Thanks so much, my friend! I love sharing tips about how to be practical with these expensive art products. I’ve use some of your techniques you mentioned before and I didn’t know you could get Krylon workable fixative at Walmart! Thank you so much always for your sweet messages and helpful information.

Great tips. I've tried to use brushes to blend, but it mostly just removes the pigment. You make a great point that they function better as "erasers!" I know Susan didn't love the Krylon, but I've used it with lots of success, as long as you start spraying to the side of the painting and then sweep it over. Never start the spray by aiming right at the paper with any fixative lest you create a dark spot. Also clean the nozzle by spraying with the can upside down.

When a mystery comes by day, we no longer walk by night, and then begin to notice the many parts of life.
The mind's eye begins to focus upon things reachable; no longer searching the shadows for those things that are no longer there. (jp) :)
