Tidy Up Meister is a helpful mod too! For eg, after reading a book in Vanilla you have to manually put it back in the cabinet. With the mod, it automatically goes back to the cabinet for you instead. It’s tiny, but makes a whole lot of difference when playing.
Nah the whole point of that mod is so that you put stuff back after, for example, deconstructing stuff. Cause in vanilla if you deconstruct a chair or something, you'll end up with a hammer and saw in your hands, and if you equip a weapon or unequip those, the hammer and saw go back into your main inventory, instead of whatever bag you had it in prior, this mod fixes that. I like that mod cause it still sits well with vanilla behavior. There are a lot of actions in game where you pull something out, use it, then put it back, like cooking, or dismantling watches. So it makes sense if the rest of the actions also do that.
i love quality of life mod but i LOVE the minimalism of the original hud and subtle mechanics encouraging "find it out for yourself" and experience with time, I use 2 in-game notebooks to write my goals, tasks, items I've already found or need to, and a diary that I write from month to month with tips on things I've learned (here's one, remove the car battery to deactivate a alarm quickly), I'm already surviving 5 months but I had a run with almost 1 year in game
I recommend getting Mod manager, so you don't have to manually re-enable mods again also it lets you search the mods that you want. As well as save a mod load for new worlds.
I run all of these, and I agree with their usefulness. A note about minimal display bars: you can turn some or all off and on and move them around/change scaling/ colors as needed. For example, I only have calories (because I always start underweight), health, endurance, and fatigue shown. Fatigue is particularly useful so you know if you're about to become drowsy before a big fight
I used to use the minimal display bars mod but a year ago it was conflicting with another mod and allowing me to walk through walls and cars, pretty funny but not immersive.
I like the "has been read" mod for the vhs tapes too, since it allows me to know at a glance which ones ive seen already, like the original mod, and not have to dig through a bunch of menus, and the fact it also tells me which ones i might have back at base but havent necessarily watched yet, is a bonus. two other mentions would be the mods that allow you to drag and drop bag icons and hotbar slots to reorder them, instead of having to un-equip everything and then re-equip them in a specific order.
I can't wait to get a computer and try this game. You've singlehandedly have got my vested interest in this game and watching your clips are always a blast. The game looks like so much fun
Another mod that I personally would advise is the water dispenser mod. It allows you to take the water jugs off of the water dispensers that you can find in office buildings. You have also fill the empty jugs up with fuel for your generators or cars.
I don’t know, gasoline chews through a lot of plastics, such as the stuff styrofoam is made of. Do we know whether it would eat through water dispenser jugs?
The others you can do by research in the wiki or just being aware of your character's condition but the literature mod is essential. Lets you mark books you already have so searching for ones you don't have yet becomes possible.
Another piece of good advice I’ve been doing on my last couple characters, regarding books. Take a notepad and write down each skill and which books you need and then erase it once you find the book. EX. Carpentry 1 2 3 4 5 and once you find carpentry 1 erase it so you know you only need 2-5
Might have to add the minimal displays mod to my co op server with my uncle. He has trouble keeping track of his water bottles and with MD he’d be able to see his thirst actually going down when his bottles are empty xD
I was scrolling through hoping someone would mention another one. My eyes have a really hard time reading minimal’s display! I usually only can understand it when I run my mouse along the lines 🤦🏻♀️ I’ll definitely check this one out inside
Great list B. Use all of these except minimal bars. I'd also add, get the fuel side indicator mod. Nothing more annoying than pulling up to a gas pump and realising you're on the wrong side.
interestingly enough, i actually was going to include the fuel side indicator mod in this video, but wasn't able to due to the 60 second limit on YT shorts. great mod tho
Theres a mini health panel one where it shows your characters outline (like in the health section) n it shows bandages on it n if they get dirty they turn red N you can literally change them without going into your characters health by right clickin on the image I honestly prefer it over the bars
I agree. I use it. Its just like Tarkov, but simplified. Its great with the simple moodle mod as well. Its not as exact as the bars, but it clearly shows you the level of moodle you have, so you don't have to squint to try and determine you have lvl 3 hunger or overweight. It just tells you. I use these two to replace the bars mod. And they look so much better than bars.
Also a fun mod I recommend just to spice it up is the superb survivors mod which adds npcs you can interact with, join or have them join you but just beware some of em might not be so friendly
Universal inventory. Got rows and rows of boxes for storage? All can be condensed to one slot. 100 zombies stacked on each other? Loot them all with one quick search.
proximity inventory. combines all storages and (or) corpses near player to one slot with quick switch to forse that slot be the only appearing. at forced mode u will not be able to choose single storage, but still can put items to storage in the list
Tip: if you find a new skill book of the current level you can read, read one page before storing it. That way the has been read mod will tell you that when you find the same skill book again, you already read one page Saves you from looting multiples
This should be added to the base game. I think the ambiguity of the moodles should be kept though. I think if you're sick you're not gonna know exactly what it is right away
There are a few mods that really help. I do not like the bar mod. Its intrusive. Instead, get the simple moodles mod that shows the level of moodle you have, which makes it much easier to decipher the severity of moodle, without requiring you to add a bunch of bars to your UI that doesn't match anything else the UI is doing. The other mods are good. Id also consider the tarkov UI, as it helps you make much better sense of what you have equipped and helps you make sense of the layers you have on at a glance. It attaches itaelf to your inventory, off to the left, and fits the UI very well. Lastly, the health UI, similar to tarkov, that you can move around on your screen. Shove it into the corner, it is invisible unless you are damaged, and you can right click it to apply bandages, etc. It removes the need to open your health panel entirely. Just a simple outline of your character that looks great and fits the original UI.
Clear trait descriptions - for sure. Weapon condition indicator - good one too. Minimal bars - meh. Not my cup of tea because having to guess how much juice there is still in you is part of the fun I get from the game. And it also exposes some values like calories amount that are not accessible in base game even as moodles making diet management trivial. Read books - nah. First of all figuring out which books and magazines you have already finished reading is Don with just looking at the item info popup. Besides the main issue with books is having books you can't yet read but don't remember if you already have one at your base or should grab this one. And base game offers a solution for this. In looting window you can see small arrows next to items. Usually they are used to expand stacks of similar items. But they are still there for unique items too. So click expand on all books you have in your base. Now when you encounter a book in the wild, you can see if you have it already or not by seeing it it is expanded or closed list.
I would recommend adding "I can shoot and use generators" mod, adds you some shooting skill and gives you magazine for generators bcs I guess we don't need to be a military personel to not miss someone who's right in front of us, like what happened to me. Also we don't need some advanced knowledge on how to use generators...

(I find it highly unrealistic that you'd somehow pocket a duffle bag while you pull out your nightstick. Like where does that bag go? Would also make a lot more sense to reflex drop it instead of trying to fight while fully encumbered by your latest excursion. Not too overpowered either, at least not if the condition of the bag is reduced by a few percent by dropping it that way.
Some people say that the weapons indicator mod is non-immersive and even kinda cheating, but I completely disagree. I feel like you'd know if a bat in your hands was about to break 😂 I run with about 60-80 mods going, love PZ!
The bars you can combine them with the icon mod and will be better and understandable for a player MZ icons something like that xD is the name of that mod it's a complement for the bars. Also have been found? A mod that shows what books you have picked up or not xD
i like having to check if my weapon is loaded manualy, i like having to keep track of durability on things. these things exist for you to potentialy forget... and die to a tiny mistake, zombies on their own have no chance of killing you until you make a mistake even a tiny one like not closing the window in the other room or loading in a empty mag
I like all of them except for the weapon condition one. Nothing screams zombie apocalypse like having your only source of protection unexpectedly break
These should be in the base game. The popup for your weapon losing durability, not so much.. but the rest of that mod is great. Similar, the status bars are great, but most of them should be turned off for simplicity. Imo, HP, Endurance, and Fatigue are the ones that matter. Know when you are low on health, low on breath, and low on sleep, before the giant penalties kick in.
For some reason weapon condition indicator and superb survivors don’t work whenever I play and I have no idea how to fix it. I already have the mods it needs for it to work and it still won’t, I reinstalled it, nothing works please help me!
I like how you guys bringing back the bars and stats to make the hard game easier... Just my opinion here. Anyway, do what you wanna do with your game and have fun!
Yeah some people like different things. The great part of the modding community being so large is that you get to fully customoze your experience. Want more info? You got it. Less info? Also there. More difficulty? Sure thing bud. Less difficulty? Ofcourse.
Bro the map mechanics because it’s isometric make your eyes half blinded, also a bunch of other settings makes it less immersed… they can add these features too.
You can always NOT use it. Im new to the game, and Im using it until I get comfortable with how the game is. Also, given how much of a debuff just MINOR fatigue is to damage, I dont mind having something that shows me how close I am to doing 50% damage.
Dude I wish I could but every mod I put on zomboid and packs it so much even if it is in a mod that actively does anything during the regular game like I just got a mod for a random spawns and it lags it out so much and I think I have to turn it off actually next time I play because I'm on a laptop which is low end and I wish to god that a medium end or even just a literal PC that wasn't great to play on cuz sometimes the lag makes me so mad I die because of it. I just can't play zomboid for days
Hard disagree on the display bars. Useful, sure, but always way too easy to keep track of where your stats are. The point of the moodles is to show how you "feel" instead of just giving a bar to fill like a lot of games. That mod just brings back the exact same concept from all the other survival games, so you'll focus more on minmaxing instead of playing the game and having stuff happen
I don't agree with you. During my first games I loved this aspect of trying to use good sense when building a caracter and then figure out in game. Mostly the traits are pretty well comprehensive except few ones. Same with the moodles: in real life you know when your're tired or out of breath, but you don't have a precise bar even if it would be helpful. I just mean that advising mods that make min/maxing easier to new players in a RP game is kinda a way to spoil their early game experience.
I've been running a few mods now and I'm definitely adding these to my list. Thanks for this video!
Glad I could help!

Imagine not running 300 mods.
I perfer moodles. I cant read thise bars and end up spending even more time trying to find a place just to find which bat means which thing.
Why haven’t they been added to the base game yet?
Since these are all on the client side and don't affect gameplay at all, are they multiplayer friendly?
Why would anyone have any sort of happiness in a zombie apocalypse?
lots of reasons. humans are known for adapting to situations well.

What song is that in the background? Does anyone know?
Anyone having issues with memory leaks from spongies hair or tsarlib ?
I don't agree with you. During my first games I loved this aspect of trying to use good sense when building a caracter and then figure out in game. Mostly the traits are pretty well comprehensive except few ones. Same with the moodles: in real life you know when your're tired or out of breath, but you don't have a precise bar even if it would be helpful.
I just mean that advising mods that make min/maxing easier to new players in a RP game is kinda a way to spoil their early game experience.
have you ever tried the shower mod
Are these client side or do they need to be server side as well?
These are all server side
