Haslar Royal Naval Cemetery - Prof. Andrew Petersen

In 1850, two frigates from the Ottoman navy visited Portsmouth. The crew went ashore in Gosport during their extended visit and received a warm welcome from the locals. Unfortunately, some of the men from the two ships succumbed to cholera, likely contracted on board. Although initially treated at Haslar Hospital, they eventually passed away and were initially buried on the hospital grounds before being later relocated to the naval cemetery.
