  • I made a compilation showing Kobe's defensive plays from the 2000, 2001 and 2002 Playoff run (watched almost every game played by the Lakers). I still feel to this day that his defensive performance gets a bit underrated when discussing his overall impact on those teams, so here you go. Hope you enjoy it. As a general tip, try to watch this video focusing on Kobe's movement instead of always on the ball. By doing that you will appreciate his defensive efforts with a clearer view.

I am so appreciative of this. As a coach it is so frustrating to try and get kids to appreciate and love Defense. It's only because defense isn't highlighted. Espn, bleacher report, and ballislife isn't going to show you a highlight of someone cutting off the drive, disrupting the pick and roll, denying the pass. This video is so crucial. Thank you.

Loved your comment, Joe. Much appreciated. Yeah, I agree 100 % that defense tends to be overlooked when highlighting players, and the usual defensive compilations (if any) are very "block and steals" focused (specially if they come from these big networks you mentioned), when true defense is much more than that. That's the beauty of actually sitting down and watching the entire games, it helps you notice much more stuff. Anyway, I hope this Kobe video inspires your kids. Much luck.

I have not watched this whole video. I'm at the 6 min40 sec mark and I do not think mj has a compilation like this and definitely Not lebron. Kobe Bryanminiscent of I am on defenseexcept that amazing play where he block Iverson and saves the ball of going out of bounds. Like I said, Iverson got mj but Not Kobe and Kobe got both mj and Iverson blocked. When Kobe blocked mj, Kobe told him what other could not dare,"where were you going to go, mj, where?" politely being explicit in telling mj I am steps ahead of you.

That's ridiculous. Kobe was a great on ball defender, but he was no Jordan. Of course you can say Jordan didn't face many perimeter threats when it comes to scoring like Kobe did, and that's a fair point, but Jordan was hands down a better overall defender. Their on ball defense is comparable, with Jordan being consistenly great for a longer period of time. Both were good help defenders, Jordan was a better stealer and shot blocker. Jordan's athleticism obviously helped, but he had a great defensive IQ from the get go. Gambled too much in his early days because it paid off more often than not, but was very intelligent and more defensively aware in the 90s.

@@LOL-ro9ef Jordan was a much better off ball defender thank Kobe. Both were good help defenders. On ball defense is certainly debatable, assuming we're comparing early 2000s Kobe(his peak on ball defense in my opinion) to a prime defensive Jordan. Any other version of Kobe loses to MJ in my opinion. Kobe certainly faced more perimeter scoring threats than MJ, whereas MJ faced mostly good all around guards and not so many volume scorers. This is a subject argument, since it's mostly based on eye test. Both were great on ball defenders, although Jordan was great for a bigger period of time(pretty much his entire prime being a top10 DPOY candidate). Even though the best on ball defender I've seen at the SG position was Tony Allen, Jordan and Kobe are certainly up there among the best.

@@Trancymind I don't agree. Man to man defense, both were great and Cooper was good off ball too. But package wise, Jordan was better. A better stealer, better at attacking passing lanes, better help defender and a better shot blocker.

Así es. Para defender bien, lo primero de todo y antes que nada, hay que querer defender bien. Sobre esa base se construye todo lo demás. Muchas gracias por el comentario.

I rewatched all the laker playoff series from 2000-2012 about a year or so ago and I remember 2000 he put the most effort into defense every trip down guarding the other teams best perimeter player. After that I noticed he didn't put as much effort into defense, just a few series here and there when necessary or somebody needed to be shut down. Obviously after 2000 he tried to score alot more and would get older every year so it make sense. But 2000 was by far was his most consistant.
