    Awesome! Thanks!! I’ve only been playing a few short months and I can handle these set up tips. I think I’m going to pick up a couple of these now. Why? Because one color ain’t enough at the price you can get these for. Plus, I’m an 80’s guy …. so they’re perfect. Eddies passing made me pick up a guitar at 51 and learn what I can. I told myself I’m going to learn some of his stuff, no matter how long it takes or how bad I suck. And I’m having fun doing it.

      Dang right man, go for it. Its so fun even after a whole life mostly riffing and playing for myself. I played in a few bands when i was from 12 to 17, then shit has piled up let me tell you. Guitar gear and playing is my big interest. You can keep it at what level you want, maybe even take lessons and develop to a decent player pretty fast. So much info and such on the internet now so not at all a must. Have fun!

    Looks more like a capacitor to me. Resistors have bands of color to reflect their value. Also, capacitors will affect frequency roll offs... resistors reduce signal level .

    • @SFBGuitar
      @SFBGuitar  2 роки тому +5

      It's definitely a capacitor. I was thinking resistor, but it didn't look like one to me either. I pulled it from the trash and it's definitely a capacitor. It's a bass roll-off as the volume drops, which is exactly what was happening. Adding a resistor would have also reduced the treble a bit, to be more even.

    The beauty of a guitar like this is how little it costs. A lot of guys buy these and put real Floyd’s on them but I think that defeats the whole purpose when you’re adding a part that costs more than the guitar itself. I would upgrade the nut if it absolutely needed it but hopefully lubing it would be enough. Maybe upgrade the tuning machines, a better pot and maybe a pickup change but I feel the pickup is decent enough

    • @rocknrollresignation93

    10mm nuts on tuner face side and use the flat blade slots of a pickup to raise the weak D string slightly. One of the 3 treble strings will be too loud and piercing, so lower it barely. You get better balance across strings that way...

    • @williamj.sheehan2001
      @williamj.sheehan2001 4 місяці тому

      Yes, Contact, "backing it off" means the same thing as "lowering it" when it comes to pickups. It appears that the pickup initially being set too high was causing some undesirable frequency spikes, and that lowering the pickup corrected that and smoothed things out sonically.

    Hey Steve, hope all is well. Typing this on my iPad while yer riffing on the TV, my friend, you have quite an impressive roster of tasty chops and your tone is always sublime ear candy. Though I don’t often comment, thanks again for what you do. Great reviews and just a pleasure to stop by your space. So I just got the purple version of this guitar, due in part to this vid and some other rather cosmically inspired sentimental stuff. Don’t want to be too long winded and take up too much of your time, but I would greatly value your opinion/advice/feedback regarding my upgrade process. Graphtech nut is already installed as well as some lovely Hipshot half open gear tuners in gold. Bournes volume pot with Buhr Electronics treble bleed in a now fully copper shielded cavity(no noise issues, just looks killer! Haha) Pretty decent pickup but replaced with Dimarzio Mo’Joe in purple direct mount. Also installed brass bridge saddles. I am curious what your recommendations would be for replacing the bridge plate and trem block. Incidentally, my new saddles are 10.8mm and the spacing is perfect. I’m a Schaller Floyd lover, but though I work in a wood shop and actually build instruments there, ain’t gonna route this puppy(affectionately names “Noodles”, a nod to sir Edward’s references to noodling). Should like a 6 hole drop in with specifically a block perhaps a tad bigger than a vanilla wafer!! When the whole thing is done I shall make a video and also explain why this project is so close to my heart. Okay, now I will go to your video on the tube, yer playing the Eart, and I have an answer about Eddie and Tony Levin. Great flute sound BTW. Rock on.

    FYI - Anyone seeing this April 2023 or later, I bought the white with matching white head stock and maple neck Beretta Special (KPBSWHCT1) and the latest updated version has changed A LOT!
    1 - They are now made in China, not Indonesia (i have no beef with that, just FYI)
    2 - It weighs a full 1.2 LBs heavier (could be just luck of the draw, but it felt a lot heavier in the hand and resting on my leg, but on my scale 7.0 to 8.2 LBs
    3 - Volume pot has changed, it's dime sized and did not have the resistor Steve shows removing in this video, also much firmer turn
    4 - Neck finish is nowhere near as smooth as my Indonesian made model which is def. satin style. It was also slightly thicker (I forgot to measure that w/ the caliper, just going on feel)
    5 - They increased the price from $179 to $229
    6 - Kramer's website says 9-42's but it came with 10-46's (checked with a digital caliper)
    Small but for me, important differences... always luck of the draw with budget guitars for sure, but I personally feel they went backwards on these changes. Returned and bought the vintage white with granadillo finger board (KPBSVWCT1) version... NOW I am really happy and get why all the buzz around this model has lasted for several years. Maybe I just got a lemon but I wanted to mention it here as I found this guitar and found Steve's tips in this video really helpful, so hopefully this helps someone else.

    Fucking, I'll go buy a Baretta, I've been looking at it for a long time, its cheapness confuses me, but it excites me.

    The volume pot resistor! Dammit, why didn’t I think of that? Time to put the original pickup back in…. Thanks for these killer tips Steve! I’m also liking the cheap guitar focus. Maybe time to add some new Squier videos into the mix?

    I prefer the hard tail...but I love my pink beauty...I'm like 2 decades in and this guitar shreds like a beast

    Try 10-46 gauge strings with the 3 stock springs and have the tension balanced and you'll be fine.

    I want to remove the center spring from mine but the claw is all the way flush with the body. Any suggestions?

    Throw the back plate in the junk drawer. It's like a chainguard or reflectors on a kids bike. They get removed immediately. All Floyd guitars are to have visible springs.

    Steve - assuming that my Fluke multimeter will work in the " AC voltage " setting ...where do I connect on my Baretta to check pickup voltage like you did ? I'm new to serious guitar study and need every advantage I can get
    Also , what should each string be reading - voltage AC ?
    Thanks in advance - JKM

    It's actually a polyester capacitor you removed from the potentiometer sold-ering (not soddering) points, not a resistor.
    Capacitors and Resistors have totally different functions.
    GREAT VIDEO by the way as just bought a Baretta Special myself.
