It’s like Djokovic he may not have the greatest personality but that simply doesn’t matter because he’s proved time and time again he’s the man for the job and a hell of a reliable seaman. Not just that but he goes for the highest amount he can catch so his crew can also get the most money they can make. People forget that his crew are also some of the highest paid fishermen on the fleet usually taking upwards of 65k a season when the average is 40k that’s a big difference. If his crew can handle I I think it’s safe to say he’s not that bad otherwise they’d be a bunch of money hungry kids rather than full on Davy jones daily journeyers.

If you hire truck drivers to bring a load across country and they were trained to strap it down it's their job to ensure it's strapped properly and if the job comes loose it's on the driver. Simple things are the crews job while the captain delegates jobs people can make mistakes.

Believe it or not steel is too much a risk for the crab product to be damaged. This in also part due to to the old style of the vessel wood would be the best choice.
Wood is light they remove those boards when they offload and reinstall them before refilling the tanks with fresh water plus if those were steel that is an extreme amount of weight and like all vessels they have a weight limit less weight more crab
Its not even just the smashed ones. When crabs die in the tank, they release chemicals that will kill the rest in short order since the water is contained. That's why the deckhand said that about the ones on the top. If you got dead at the top, then they're all dead.

actually they cannot take dead crab into the plants due to cleanliness hazards. I grew up in SE AK and was a deckhand for a very long time, we had an entire load of Dungeness die and we had to unload the dead ones ourselves because the cannery wouldn’t touch them.
Such a failure of a Captain to not accept responsibility for their management of their ship. And he went from standing up for the factory workers, to trying to suck up to them. Its like he knows not to bite the hand that feeds him, but he is fine with knocking his own teeth out.

Yup. There's no profit in smashed crabs . That sucks. Its called deadloss.
