The orientation of the hole might simply be planned obsolescence they have it just high enough and it will last only so long either grease comes out or water goes in. If it was at 12 o’clock it would last longer I would suppose. It’s the only explanation to me that makes sense.

Do not remove the seal if you install a greaseless bearing. If you do remove the seal, put a new one back. It helps keep water splashing in your bilge out of the gimbal bearing. Not perfect but pretty darn good and everything helps with I/O's.

      Good morning ☕️
Any update? Is the replacement gimbal bearing the exact replacement part number that is stated for your exact serial number outdrive?
Did you apply a thin layer of grease to inner bore/cavity that the gimbal bearing is driven into? That helps the bearing slide in much more efficiently.
Also, if gimbal bearing is significantly offset, it will be very difficult pressing it into the bore to a point where it’s flush with the inner stopping point. Please keep us posted. 🧰☕️

I managed to install with the dot closer to 11 O'clock. I really don't see for the sealed bearing why it matters given there is no need to line up the the grease hole. Any idea why for the sealed bearing it needs to be clocked to 10? Should I be worried if its closer to 11?

Good morning ☕️ we have asked the same question. We have been told that this is the position of bearing during all stages of testing.
To lower the possibility of premature failure, positioning the bearing as required by engineering/engineers and as discussed in this Service Bulletin is best.

      Good morning ☕️
We may add that to the list. In the meantime, do you have your owners manual or serial number service manual?
Service manual is the guide to follow the proper step-by-step instructions for winterizing.
We don’t want to give you any misleading info at this point.

Awesome, and hey we really appreciate that. Our goal continues to be getting you the info you need without wasting your valuable time.
That’s great to hear you are a DIYer. 😎👍☕️
The serial number should be on a sticker or placard located on your inboard engine. You should have one number for your inboard engine and another number for your outdrive.
Many more helpful videos to come, we promise!
