- Haul-Master 2.31 CU ft. Tongue Box Review- Purchase or pass?
Should you purchase the 2.31 CU Ft tongue box from Harbor Freight? How sturdy is it?
Is it really lockable? I will show you a truck to make it even harder to break into!
My full review of the Haul-Master 2.31 CU ft. Tongue Box from Harbor Freight!
One additional suggestion - add a layer of yoga mat or foam to the bottom of the box to help minimize some of the noise and movement of the stuff inside.
Excellent security advice on the u bolts. I didn’t think about how easy that can be removed. I am surprised the manufacturer didn’t think of that.
I'm just about to install a 4 foot Lund black checker plate box to my 5X10 utility trailer. I'm in the process of repainting the trailer from black to white first. I didn't want to drill big holes in the yoke steel but your idea of using the "U" bolts is total genius. I will be following your lead on that. Thanks so much for the tip. Great job.
I've got two of these boxes, one on each of my trailers. Had them for several years now. Even though they are thin gauge metal, they work good. If you use your trailer commercially you might want a heavier box, but for private use they work just fine.
I use commercially and so far so good, but I agree a heavier duty would be better!
Great review! Smart idea to mount u-bolts upside down with the nuts inside the box. Thanks for your review!
How difficult is it to use your trailer jack now? The uncentered box is definitely in the way..
^^^ Same question I was wondering
Build a false bottom with cleats underneath it To raise it up above the nuts would be a good idea to consider
I got one on sale for $99. Works nice. Thin metal so I don't put much of value in it. But, I'm in a low crime area, so hopefully I never have an issue with it.
How is it holding up? How is it at keeping water out?
A pair of bolt cutters, ether direction of the u bolt is quite easy to steal. Best best is to drive large to self tapping screws down from inside
I agree! More of a deterrent than anything. End of the day if someone wants to steal it or what’s inside it they will.
Locks keep honest people out.
I am going to try these boxes as a battery box in remote locations. I would of mounted the bolts downwards with a small tack weld on threads but with enough force you can bust the u-bolts. I'm ordering 2 at the moment.
There u go! Great idea. I don’t currently have access to a welder.
That bracket on the bottom of the ubolt doesn’t do anything. It’s meant to be used next to the nuts.
Handy idea switching the u bolts.
Is that a Big Tex Trailer? I have the 35SA from Big Tex and it looks like your jack is set back towards the trailer like mine is, but this box seems to just fit in there. Do you have any issues with the jack handle clearing the top of the box? Also is there enough room for the lid to open all the way?
Thanks.
Nice! Mine is a 7x12 Suretrac trailer. Box fits just about perfect actually. I do have to move the handle slightly when moving it up but it cranks. Would love to get a different or longer handle but for now this works. Check out my pics on Instagram which shows clearance and the box opening all the way.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Best value for the money. It looks great. Remember what it's for. I don't keep anything of value in it. Just asking for trouble. I keep 2 used batteries in it to run the winch. If need be. Put a pad lock on it. Same with my tires and spare. Put locks on them.
How did this work with the jack look close to be able to move the jack handle
also you can better seal up the box turning the u bolts upside down using a combination of washers and rubber washers on both sides
Are the 2 square ubolts enough to keep the box secure?
Smart move with the U-Clamp....
where do ya haul the chains
Thanks for the video
Purchase
Would it really have been that difficult to center the box?
You mounted it ghetto rigged. Sloppy.
Next time, think your project through.
The quality of this looks horrible, paint is bad and material the u bolts are made of is pot metal and is not strong at all. The latch is weak and the steel is about 1/16 thick it feels lol. Tractor supply has these for 150-250 and the quality is 10X or more better
