You legend. I can imagine you must have had a massive smile on your face when you solve that problem. Well done Paul. Great video.
Thanks, and yes I did
Masterfully diagnosed! Thank you for sharing this and more importantly for your time and generosity. No off to diagnose my A3 with the continuous running cooling fan.
I’m happy that you sorted that out, also working on my S3 all the way in Cape Town 🇿🇦. Your videos have been very helpful, keep them coming.
I will
I absolutely loved this episode, I was actually over the moon and happy that you finally resolved the fan issue. Without a shadow of a doubt your one the best youtuber out there, I love your content and I learn so much from you. 💚
Glad you enjoyed it!
That’s one thing I still haven’t got my head around, car electronics ! Good to see how you worked your way through it. Very helpful. 👍🏽😎
Thanks 👍
Thanks Paul. This helped me figure out the same issue with my S3. The purple wire came out of the connector when the shop was installing a new radiator.
So happy you've now resolved the issue. Keep up the good work, look forward to the next episode
Thanks
We have a similar car and I have a really similar problem. I kidd you not, this video has opened my eyes. No dealership would have done all that work without charging thousands 😢
Hiiii!!! Perfect. This was exactly I found after watching your video. When i removed the radiator along with radiator support assembly, I forgot to unplug!! That pulled one of the wire and that’s why the fan was staying on.
Thank you so much for taking this effort of sharing the knowledge. Keep posting such videos. Cheers
Glad it helped
Same problem with Passat b8 2015g 2.0 tdi, oxidized and broken signal wire 5 cm from the fan connection to the ecu, you saved me time and money, thank you very much for the great video!
Glad it helped
I appreciate you recording through this problem for us to watch.
Your welcome
Just finishing watching the entire back catalogue of your channel lol found from NowWeDrive and finding things to watch. Really enjoyed it and keep up the good work, had your work cut out on this S3 though. I so want to buy an Fiesta ST and repair it from watching you and Spark Plug Steve haha
Glad you like them!
So happy for you Paul and that you can now get the car ready for it's test drive, well done Sir.
Thank you
Had me worried for a while that it was the ECU at fault. Good methodical diagnosis. Congratulations for sorting it.
Thanks
Wow big thanks. Now i know where to start. Lots of love all the way from South Africa
Very helpful video.. Same issue on my Mk5 tdi. Thank you
Well done and sorted. Enjoyed watching that very cool fix, more better than Colombo solving mystery on TV.
Lol, thanks for that.
Great diagnostics work, and well explained. A good teacher. I have a 2.0 TDI A3. Where were you able to get access to digital Audi wiring diagrams? I desperately need this for my A3 8P. Thanks.
Boom!! Nice one Paul. Looking forward to seeing the test drive.
Coming soon!
Hi Paul, great video. You are the only one I can find that has a similar issue to mine on my VW Golf. Hopefully you see this; I checked my pins and I am getting 12V 12V GND and 3V but my fan speeds up like a jet engine when plugged in and stays that way. I'm thinking fan controller in fan itself. But no idea how to test the controller. Thanks.
Awesome video. Learnt a few things on the diagnostics. Like it. Hope you can also get the head lights sorted.
Thanks Simon
Hi Paul, great video, that solved the issue,it's nice to find the problem, can't wait for the first test drive of the Audi.
You and me both!
Hi Paul, have a similar problem with my A3 8v build. Fan does not come on but does so if i run it through vcds. Your videos have helped me thus far with my build. 💪💪
Glad to help
Great Video, I’ve watched another video where someone had the exact same problem, I’ve shared your video with them, thanks very much for sharing! 👍
Glad it helped
Well done Paul , looking forward to the first road test !!

Genius! I need to run this type of diagnosis on my 2010 S4 B8
"Nothink" 😂😂😂 Paul you're a legend but you crack me up
That's the Londoner in me 😀
Great video Paul. My A6 has a very similar problem. I've eliminated temperature sensors and was thinking it was the fan module. Time to check the loom before splashing out on a new module. Thanks for the video!
Hi, did you manage to resolve the issue ?
I have an audi a5 when you start the car fan run on a full speed none stop and inside my car the gauge that shows the temperature not moving at all and my fan seems like it is draining my battery since been having battery issues now help
Soon as I put your video on I found it funny as in the last video I asked about the fan then the next video is about the fan 😂
Great minds think alike 👍
Good detection work, I’ve really enjoyed this project and I’m sure you’ll be able sort the headlight issue too, well done
Thanks, I have some news on the headlights next week, stay tuned
Cars For Paul I wait patiently. I’m contemplating buying a damaged repairable Mercedes for my own use and wT hing these clips is building my confidence

Thanks Randall
Thank you very much
Good job . Can tell you have great trade experience at fixing cars.👍
Thanks 👍
Youre a Legend ❤️ i Finally found the Problem on my A5
The broken wire is known as the signal wire. It's a PWM signal, Pulse Width Modulated. Instead of varying the voltage, the ECM varies the duty cycle or the length of time the voltage is supplied. You cannot accurately measure the voltage with a volt meter because a meter isn't fast enough to capture the peak and low point. U need a scope. When that signal wire is disconnected (or broken like your Audi) the fan module goes into emergency mode and runs at top speed. Eventually, the car goes to sleep and the other 12v signal is ended. Good job, you repaired it correctly. A dealer might have charged u to replace the harness which would have been expensive and if a new harness is no longer available, the dealer will try to sell u a new car.
Indeed they would
Paul where did u connect ur red cable b4 u connect with purple one
Hi Paul where can I get wiring diagrams for cars.
Keep up the videos you definitely deserve more subscribers👍
Thanks
Great. Learnt a lot from you.
thanks for sharing.
My pleasure
i will look forward to any advise you can give on sourcing new and used parts
Should be a good one
I hope mine is the same problem🤞
Great work Paul 👍🏼
Thanks, check your sensors first
I’ve got same issue
Hi Paul very interesting. But my problem is I have a vw passat b5 2ltre petrol alt engine changed thermostat & all cencors but cooling fan not kicking in.wired fan direct and works perfectly any ideas.much appreciated.
nicely done Paul..well done my friend.

Hi Paul got a vw passat changed all relays fuses cencors fan still won't run.any ideas.
Great daig job paul on cooling fans.👍👊
Thanks
In vw polo tdi is fan speed can be low?
In my car fan speed is slow it's an issue?
Hey paul, i have the same issue on an audi s3 but in my case the fans turns in and off, when start the engine.
voice is calm and comforting
Great job again Paul 👍🏻
Thanks
Great explained video. as soon as my wife gets in my car the ecu senses her 18 stone mass so due too extreme engine load it triggers the fan for extra cooling .
Lol, I sure hope your wife doesn't what this vlog 😂😂😂
lol . keep up the fantastic work with your channel
Well done , thanks
Thanks for watching!
Car looking mint great video thanks for sharing
Your welcome
Yes Paul a vid on where to source parts and finding out part numbers would be helpful as dealerships don’t give part numbers 🙁
Great, thanks for the feedback
Well done Paul great video.
Thanks
Lovely Jubbly, many people would have given up by now, well done Paul.
Thanks
Hi, I am having the same issue on a 2018 RS4, but it comes and goes. When it happens, fan is full blast and the engine temperature reading is all over the place (high, low, etc), but the oil temperature is fine. So no overheating. Any ideas?!
Where is the red cable from?
With the main beam issue, it maybe to do with range control module and bcm requiring coding to the new headlights.
I think I may have an answer, stay tuned for a update
Hi Paul - Yes I would like to parts video please - also did you get the pressure tube that goes across the front of the car behind the bumper? Kind regards Clay.
Will do, and no I haven't got the pressure tube yet.
Nice diagnostic.... I have polo gti with same problem.... But now car after clearing fault runs ohk but after while i lose ability to accelerate.... I will check that wire.... Maybe car going into Protection mode because of fan issue..... Always running with ignition on...... Now my question like in ur case, what if that wires are all good? .... Can it be the control module itself that packed up?
if it was the module, it would likely show when doing a code read
Great diagnosis and expanation. I thought I had found the fault at 10.39 when i saw the blue gremlin lol
Thanks
Nice one Paul glad you got it sorted 👍 totally lost me though 😁
Thanks 👍
hello friend I have this same problem in a q7 3.6 fsi 2008 the same procedure is done
Any cooling system will have delt T of 14deg between the inlet temperature and the outlet
Hi Paul, both my fans, cooling and aircon fan, does not come in at all. Can I connect it directly on the battery and control them manually via a toggle switch inside the car. Thus bypass the control unit? "Christo is my name and I am from Durban
I wished you were in DRC!
S3 is coming along nicely.👍
It is indeed
Nice work. Hoq. Did you know thta should. 0.5 volts at it?
Yes, thanks
I’m having this issue with my 2018 Mercedes glc300 coupe. It has always ran fine until a couple of weeks ago. I took it to Mercedes and there aren’t any fault codes and all of the sensors are working according to them. They said wait until a check engine light comes on because they can’t find anything wrong with my car other than the fan is stuck on high. They said the same thing it must be electrical but they can’t find where it’s coming from. Will this apply to the Mercedes glc300 as well?? I’m literally having the exact same issue….The fan in the front is running on high as soon as the key is turned to the on status. Maybe I can show the mechanic at Mercedes your video.
Hi . I think I may be having the same problem,, my fan comes on around 95 degrees and I can’t turn the fan speed more than half way ,, after turning off the engine then back on again it’s okay for a few minutes, also not getting any warm air till the engine is about 90 + degrees
Would it be the coolant auxiliary pump ?
Hey Paul I just had a quick question I’m having this same issue , say it’s the purple cable like you where did you initially run the red cable I know you connected it to the purple wire but where was it ran from
It runs in the loom to the fuse box under the bonnet
nicely worked out detective Paul
Thanks
So complicated you have a lot of patience I would have phoned a friend lol
I almost did.
Great job Paul you got to the bottom of it :)
Thanks
I can feel the pressure being lifted in your voice
Your right there
I really do like the Audi S3
It’s my wife’s car so it’s a bit small for me lol
Keep up the great work
Thanks
@@CarsForPaul What you meant is I really do like my wife's Audi S3.
Hey Paul, i have an audi a3 8v the 1.8tfsi version, and my fans are also running all the time.. i am also measuring 2.8v on the pwm wire. What can be the issue?
There are no faults recorded
Hi Paul would you know what fuse I can tap on a Audi A3 68 plate, I am thinking of installing Ambient lighting and want to connect to Cigarette lighter by hard wiring, so when I turn the Ignition on they will come on too,
I would probably tap onto the existing ambient lighting as you can get to this via the central console which pops out quite easily with some force
Cars For Paul yeah could do, also found out that I can tap into fuse f40, as it power all the Cigarette lighter sockets in car, thanks for getting back to me Paul
Did you have a check engine light with the fan problem or just the code?
Just a code
Hi there. I know your video is not recent but I am hoping you will be able to give me some advice. My control cable from the ECU is not constant as yours shown on the video. It fluctuates up and down. All wiring and pins in a good condition from ECU to plug but voltage does not stay consistent. When I put the scan tool in it says my map control sensor is -48°. Can this be the reason why my fans are not coming on?
Hmm, it would appear so, something is feeding it the wrong info. most Audis have two temp sensors so one could be faulty.
@@CarsForPaul I will have a look. Thank you for your reply. Appreciate it 🙏
On any engine there's a swith which turns fan on usual is on thermo housing
in this case, its the ECU that tells the fan to come on as this also controls the fan for the AC
my signal cable is giving 12volts plus? and fan blasting at full throttle!
Are you sure the headlights are the exact same as they may not be the matrix ones originally fitted to the car? I would check psrt numbers with original headlights of possible if not just code these in mate in adapations
I have just discovered that they are not the correct one, my ones are adaptive LED's, the ones I have fitted are just LED light hence the error code.
Cars For Paul thought so but you can change that from coding
The problem with my Audi s3, the fan runs non stop as long as the enginerun(shuts down after 2 minutes when car off) then when driving sometimes picks high coolant temperature but my coolant is very cold. Pls help. I changed the temp sensor next to radiator. (All this happened after alternator change) Thank you
good video paul you are my fav youtuber
Thanks
Hi Paul I would love your help with my audi s3
Whats the problem?
