This kept me and my family warm in Texas thank you 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
When I was a kid, way back in the 70s I found a book called Roughing it Easy. They showed how to make this using a tuna fish can. Works great..
Cool! It looks really good. When I was in grade school we made something like this only using a tuna fish can. We put a birthday candle standing up in the center of it to light it. Then we used a #10 can, turned over on top of it. The #10 had some holes cut in it, and a 'door' that was cut out at the bottom of it which we could use to light and check the stove. We attached the metal from we cut off for the door to a stick to make a spatula. Then we cooked a hamburger on the top of the #10 (the 'top' of the stove was the 'bottom' of the #10). Basically it was a hobo stove... or so they told us that's what it was called. I love the idea of the altoids tin because I just love their shape, but also the lid that can extinguish the flame. Endlessly refillable. This would be a quick and easy thing to bring on overnight or couple day backpacking trips.
Great idea .. I just made an Altoids candle using tea candles put 4 wicks.. broke up the tea candles wax and melted it in a can and poured it into the Altoids tin so it's a candle with four wicks which should throw some heat and some light I can leave the Altoids cover partially sticking up and it will reflect the light.. I definitely will be making one of your type of Altoids tin candles soon probably use tea light candle wax
Getting geared up for motorcycle camping this season, and this is definitely going in the bug out bag! It's so small, simple, and usefull! I can't believe I never knew of this! Cheers, thanks!
Great idea! Thanks for sharing!
I've done the same thing but used a tuna can will burn for hours, put a couple of holes on side coat hanger into them and attached to handle and torch. First did this in Cubs take an old empty large coffee can some holes around top with can opener and you have what cubs called a hobo stove. Can cook on the flat bottom of the coffee can. Have made all sorts of stuff from the altoids but not this will give it a try.
Nice. Compact & practical 👌🏽
yep I use the 'smalls' for an emergency firekit for the vehicles. If you stuff the left over wick from the old candles in the center it makes an easy to light spot for you. Just fuzz thd wick real good & a couple passes with the mini ferro you leave inside and you're good to go.

I just found your channel and now I'm binge watching lol. Thanks for making these videos and sharing ideas.
Thanks! Enjoy.. and thanks for watching.
Same here. I liked, subscribed, and shall start binge-watching now. LOL
That's awesome. I'm gonna be making me one. Thank you for sharing.
I wonder if that would burn for an hour.
Thanks for sharing, great idea 👍
I make these from the metal cans that chip dip come in. They're deeper and have a plastic lid. Adding some fat wood shavings and dryer lint across the top before pouring the wax really helps it light easily. They burn longer but are still definitely small enough to carry without adding a lot of bulk or weight.
I never even thought of using those cans, I will have to give that a try, thanks!
Great idea! I have a few Altoids tins that need a purpose in life! LOL

I was prepared to think that this was silly but that looks like a great, long lasting emergency fire that'll probably last long enough to get whatever you to do done. I'm gonna make a few of these just to have
this is perfect. even for use in fire starting. set that under a bunch of tinder, like you said.
Great idea! I'm gonna try that.
Good project for Boy Scouts
Great idea ima have to make one for my edc bag
Great idea
fantastic!
very cool!
Thanks!
Use a little piece of jute twine as a wick for easy lighting
🍻👏👏👏
The tin " buddy burner" A little cotton or dryer lint at the top helps. :D
how long did this burn for you ?
TFS... C.R.
About 10 or 12 mins, when I re-lit it after the video. It was also easy to clean up too, just burned out the wax and reloaded it for another day. Great idea on the dryer lint on top, I will add that as well.
Thanks for watching!
I think if i try this. ill use a slightly thicker tin = more fuel. Something like a piece of flat metal or a "slider" ... make something similar to Live fire for example
Is it safe to use indoors?
@@Peg-ee5ei The short answer is Yes.
I have use the altiods and the soup/veggie can version inside with no issues. They are just really big candles. I would ventilate any space smaller than a small bedroom. I field tested a soup can candle one winter in my Sidekick with a window cracked for ventilation. Not the safest thing having an open flame in a car, BTW, but I wanted to know how it would work in a winter “stranded vehicle” scenario. With the candle and my wool sleep system, I was comfortable all night in below freezing temperatures.
Could dryer lint be used as tinder?
yup it works very well
How many uses/life does it give?
I got about 2 to 3 uses before you need to refill them
hello im new on your page i got into emmys mre's that was cool but i dont understand what the point of the wax is for can u plz tell me ty so much :)
The wax will make it burn slowly more like a candle and less like some paper or cardboard. Without the wax that cardboard would burn up in a few mins, with the wax it will burn for about a 1/2 hour, and it also helps it light quicker as well. Thanks for watching and subbing!
ty so much for telling me i really dont know anything about things like these btw im in a wheelchair can u do something for ppl in wheelchairs?
I can try, can you think of what you would like to see? There is one guy in a wheelchair on here that does lots of great videos.. Check out UncleCow. ua-cam.com/users/unclecow He has some amazing stuff on his site for self defense.
