- Three weeks on the Pacific Ocean, all by ourselves, we were fantasizing about a couple different things: Salad with yoghurt dressing and Beer on the top of the list. But when we thought we could enjoy the benefits of being back in civilization as soon as we dropped our anchor, we thought wrong. The immigration procedure at first and finally our own equipment kept us from going ashore for another three days after our arrival. We appreciated the beauty of the island, observing it from a distance and went diving off of our boat. The stoke of having it made to Rapa Nui, the island furthest away from civilization, was real.

wow, for an episode that never actually was on Easter Island (yet), and was mostly talk about the issues of anchoring there, it was very captivating. It felt much longer then it was.
Also, good to know you can anchor safely there. First search I did for sailing to Easter Island, showed a sailboat getting destroyed on the coral and rocks by high winds blowing it towards the island.
So, my thought was, I'll wait till Tahiti to fly there for two weeks or more. Maybe I need to change my plans.

Exactly what I've been thinking since I started watching Zingaro.
Try to find the battery that has a short. It will bubble fast may also be hot. Take the shorted battery out of the system. Doing may get you by for a few more days. I live off grid for the 16 years. Good luck

Wind generator is better cause they are making power 24 / 7 even when your at anchor a hydro generator only works when your sailing and most boats spend most of their time on the hook

They needed to restock the supermarket so they can sell it back to you. Guaranteed captive audience, it's not like you can just go to the next island and buy what you need.
Ok so I made that conspiracy theory up, most of the islands in the South Pacific have strict quarantine, just try catching a plane to AU or NZ with those items, my big tip is declare everything when you enter countries like these.
Dave Amies the Galapagos quarantine mob take your freezer full of packed meats, fish and any thing else they can lay there greedy hands on.. sailing Avalon experienced this.. that’s not quarantine laws, that’s just outright theft and power at play, to the sailing community that visit there islands, completely vulnerable to there corruption.. I understand when visiting ports you declare some items, but raiding a whole supply of frozen foods off cruising yachts that pay mega dollars to enter the Galapagos is outrageous!
@@highvibe4839 That's good to know, so if you are planning to arrive at the Galapagos, plan to be out of provisions when you arrive and have a need to stock up (i.e. Nothing for them to take). Will make the mental note.

Yep, the simultaneous sequence was cute. There are always words in languages that create difficulties in pronunciation for native speakers of a different tongue. They are sometimes called shiboleths because that is a middle eastern word that can be used to differentiate a couple of biblical cultures base on its pronunciation. I have tried to learn French and words like "accueil" defeat me. The example that I have seen on the internet between German and English is "squirrel", apparently that is a tough one for native German speakers. Ask Kimmi to try that one, although her command of different languages is quite impressive and she might have no problem.

They don't want your food contaminating the island, so they took all your food TO the island?
Limes and oranges are hard to find on most islands . They don't want to prevent contamination, they want limes and oranges. Most locals confiscate large payments (politely called Visa fees) so the currency doesn't "contaminate" the locals too much. That's why contamination is such a big "worry" for small governments.

Chris white. That one is called "starship". It was built in chile, and that was it's first passage. Super state of the art boat, dual wing masts, no main sails. I got a tour it was pretty cool. Sailed around on anchor though, the guy almost lost the boat...
@@thelastpirate I went to the Alwoplast website and they say they have closed their doors. Alwoplast was the builder of Starship and other MastFoil boats.

Did you two get a chance to check out that Chris White Atlantic 47 that was anchored near you when you first arrived? It was the cat with the light green topside paint. They have his MastFoil system, which is pretty unique.
Yes, James got a tour of that boat and we had the owners over for some fish we speared. Nice people, big boat. This was almost lost there in Rapa Nui, it sailed at anchor and snapped the mooring line, owner barely saved her

So customs took your garlic, lime, ginger off your boat because why?? I'm assuming they are trying to protect their habitat but it was safe and secure in your vessel. Off shore. They confiscate it and bring it where?...on their island?!?!... WTF. You have no idea how much people piss me off! I do however think you James and Kim are rock stars.
