Am I the only one who finds it ironic that this poem contains alot of historical figures and the point of his poem is that we don't learn about black history at all. We are studying the poem for our GCSE's (its in british education) and in doing so we learn of the black history figures mentioned in the poem, Agard has got his point through and won!
i guess im randomly asking but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid lost my account password. I appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Christian Jacob thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Could u say that since his eye is “bandaged” it’s ironic? A bandage is only temporary and it’s meant to heal injuries. So the only way that it’ll heal is when he gets to find out about his Afro Caribbean history, which happens.
just started studying this at school so I am trying to make a PowerPoint on each of the 15 poems and their key quotations so that I will be able to revise in a more simple way.
@@goat.8295 I dont quite remember how long watching them all took me as it's been a while since I've looked at English , but I made them all into flashcards, with the quote on the front and its analysis on the back and using those quotes I wrote lots and lots of practice essays to memorise them, and by doing so I was simultaneously honing my essay writing skills
Coil you please make a video structured like this I think it would help a lot: 1st poem - what you would compare it to and maybe some example points With all the poem combinations (you don’t need to repeat pairs obviously)
does anyone know how he gets that cool effect around his mouse? and in other videos, i see that when he clicks, he gets a nice ripple effect. how does one get this?
Sir, if I don't watch the other video on the grade 9 analysis of checking out my history will I not have enough notes on checking out my history to get a 9 ?
Another point about the type of racism in the poem is that it is systematic, it is so ingrained in the educational system that it goes unnoticed (if anyone was looking for another way to phrase it)
Hi Sir, im a bit confused at how Checking out me history can be linked to war and was wondering whether you could briefly outline how so that I can use these ideas in my essays
Hi mr salles, I think there is another category for conflict: Conflict of systems, I.e beliefs, money, patriotism. Good one for this is kamikaze or tissue
Tristan Campbell i don’t think he means nature like weather and stuff necessarily, he means more the nature of beings. like the nature of our body e.g. the eye that’s been treated like something is wrong w it, aka concealing true versions of history by educating the british population with the british version of history made by the white hegemony
Mr Salles, I have a question. When analysing "Touissant a slave.." you mentioned how the poem looks small but will take on a massive subject. However, isn't the poem arguably big (compared to other poems like London in the anthology)?
No, that's not the way literture works. Look at all the points I made in this video, and apply each of them to the theme of identity. It is already there.

@Christian Jacob It worked and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
I got a grade 7 in English literature! I went from grade 1 to grade 5 then to grade 7. Mr Salles you helped a lot, lots of respect to you.
This is brilliant. Well done.
I have learnt more about the poems through this guys videos the last 4 hours revising than the last 2 years in my actual lessons…

Spytro Yes, that is an excellent interpretation
Thank you so much Mr.Salles I’m currently trying to go through all your videos to revise for tomorrow’s exam and it’s so helpful!
Also this poem is a literal golden ticket to all the power and conflict poems as it can be compared to them all
Thank you so much Mr Salles! This is brilliant analysis. Thank you again, much appreciated.
Glad you liked it!
You have saved my English GCSE... these videos are amazing!
just started studying this at school so I am trying to make a PowerPoint on each of the 15 poems and their key quotations so that I will be able to revise in a more simple way.
Ironic that this poem is trying to change how education is taught and yet it’s basically the only non-British poem in the anthology
Thank You I love these series
I've officially watched all your 5 Key quotes videos for the power and conflict cluster and I think I'm prepared to tackle any question!
what was the result of your tackling (grade)?
@@_altrax I think I got a 9 in my mocks, 8 in the actual exam :)
@@alicjabednarczuk9577 how long did it take to watch them all and how did you revise from them ?

The art work point really hit me i think its my favourite one!! Thank you!!
This is amazing pls make do these for all poems 💗
I wish could make a video about themes that are in common with two poems and show us how to compare the essay conveying those themes

For place could I right about place in society or is it physical place?
What does SOAPAIMS stand for?
thanks sir! I feel like memories might be a possible theme? but i'm not too sure. thankyou for the great vid :)
Yes, you could have that as a theme
With the quotation "a healing star" what if you consider how it was a star that led the three wise men to Jesus
Another point about the type of racism in the poem is that it is systematic, it is so ingrained in the educational system that it goes unnoticed (if anyone was looking for another way to phrase it)
Good point
Hi Sir, im a bit confused at how Checking out me history can be linked to war and was wondering whether you could briefly outline how so that I can use these ideas in my essays
I’m 100% sure I talked about that in the video. How many wars are mentioned in this poem? At least 3
Respect for responding to a recent comment on a 4-year old video Mr Salles ❤️ (thanks for you work by the way ❤️🙏🏾)
Hi mr salles, I think there is another category for conflict:
Conflict of systems, I.e beliefs, money, patriotism. Good one for this is kamikaze or tissue
Yes, but that is way beyond what AQA will ask.
Dear MR Salles you are Incredible i will you know tomorrow if it went well
Sir when can you do the rest plz 😭😭😭👌🏽
How does this poem link to the theme of place?
Amazing video sir whats the next in the series?
Remains and Storm on the Island
Mr Salles, if I write something similar to what you wrote in your poetry analysis book, even by using blurting, will it still count as plagiarism?
No
Can these points mentioned get a grade 9 if used correctly?
Of course
Love the sea-coal point!!
Dear Mr Salles, thank you for your amazing videos! what poem could you compare COMH to if nature is the question?
I actually have a video on that already. In fact, I have a video on every poem telling you what to compare it to. Check them out.
@@MrSallesTeachesEnglish thank you so much for everything, you are a star
Hello sir, could you do a grade 9 analysis of Frankenstein please?
Best gcse novel
can you explain how this links to power of nature
?
Tristan Campbell i don’t think he means nature like weather and stuff necessarily, he means more the nature of beings. like the nature of our body e.g. the eye that’s been treated like something is wrong w it, aka concealing true versions of history by educating the british population with the british version of history made by the white hegemony
Tristan Campbell oh also, the poem does mention elements of nature e.g. “healing star” , “yellow sunrise” , “russian snow”
is it still possible to compare any poem, even if they have no implicit relation, and still achieve grades 7/8/9?
Yes, but you want some sort of similarity
Mr Salles, I have a question. When analysing "Touissant a slave.." you mentioned how the poem looks small but will take on a massive subject. However, isn't the poem arguably big (compared to other poems like London in the anthology)?
i think he meant like the poem compared to other things in life is small, like its just a poem, words on paper, but it can still change stuff
Could you elaborate on how this could relate to nature please? Isn't that a bit of a stretch?
best 3 poems for nature is The Prelude, Storm on the Island and Exposure and even Ozymandias to a certain extent. This isn't too good for nature
So are all the points here grade 7 and above?
You know it!
Whos watching on the morning of the exams? Or am I the only one :/
Yap
Hello sir, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?
Very old, but young at heart.
@@MrSallesTeachesEnglish hahaha!!
Hello sir, could you please make a quick revision video on how Checking Out Me History present the theme of identity?
