My son and his girlfriend got me a whole pile of seeds for Christmas, including some super hot peppers. I'll definitely be making hot sauce to send to him.
Raining here too all the time. I have Hellebores too and snowdrops almost out. Spring is around the corner!!
Oh dear. Hope your able to repair it and not too much damage caused inside. New gardening gloves for me and a durable garden apron for me with more pockets than I can count. 😅 The weather is a nightmare everywhere ☔ westerly after westerly 🌧 ☹️

I roofed my shed in rigid, corrugated felt. It's very strong and worked a treat. Happy New Year!

It's just so wet you can do miracles just tarp the roof and go back when it's dryer. I'm using this time to look at my seeds to sow and just make plans 😊 x
The weather actually stripped our shed of it's felt this winter too. So annoying. I've yet to purchase a replacement, or drag myself onto a ladder to fix it lol.
They have only recently lifted a hosepipe ban in Devon. Most of the reservoirs are now full, so should be ok next year.

Its been continued heavy rain and high winds here in Dorset for so long the garden is looking a little battered. Still, looking forward to brighter weather and days ahead. Planning changes in the garden this year.

Here it has been raining continuously as well. Yesterday I had a chance to go to the allotment/garden after 5 weeks of storm and heavy rain. You never know what's expecting you. You probably didn't expect that a part of your roof is gone. I hope there will not be too much rain so that you can fix it fast. I know how you feel, a couple of my greenhouse panes popped out in the wind and one smashed. Wind damage is so frustrating!
Can’t wait for some cold dry weather. I’ve lost a lot of panes of glass from my allotment greenhouse, the raised beds are absolutely saturated and I can’t face clearing up until it’s brighter! Hope you can soon get your shed roof sorted.

Very dry here little or no rain forecast in the coming months. Had to put down about 35 bales of pea straw in garden to reduce moisture loss and feed soil. Our hellebores by comparison are not flowering and leaves look a little dry from heat. On the up side the worm farm I got this year has produced lots of castings and liquid manure to use I garden. But I felt for you when I saw that roof of your shed. I'm sure you'll set things to rights in the days ahead 😊
Welcome back and to a soggy surprise! Up where I am, in the Borders we have been hammered by strong winds and rain. Thankfully no damage, yet. Looking forward to your delightful videos from the allotment throughout 2024. First task I'd do is the shed roof. Once waterproofed, it'll be a dry place for a brew and thinking of the next task. Husband and I went out in the pouring rain just now to fix a tarp to the roof as a temporary measure 😂
Went to my plot yesterday ,first time in a while ,the shed felt missing, should really have replaced it in summer 😥, however my neighbours shed was on its side. Newark notts

We had lots of rain here on the east coast of Scotland too so I only got my tulip and crocus bulbs in the ground a week ago! Our hellebores have started to show, I love them as well, so pretty and cheery to see on a winters day. Happy new year to you! ❤
It has been and continues to be extremely wet and stormy here in Wales. I don't think we have had more than acouple of dry days in succession since June! Happy New Year

In Estonia, we also have interesting stories about the weather. We had an abnormal amount of snow in November and twenty degrees of cold, and then everything melted before Christmas. It was a swamp...
After the holidays it rained profusely as if it were autumn and in a few days the temperature will drop to -20 again. Unfortunately, there is no thick layer of snow, which in our climate would protect the roses, for example, and all the ice water goes to the plants. I don't even want to think about what swamp land it will be in the spring. Estonia has a lot of swampy wild nature, but I don't want it in my back garden 😂
I had to replace a sheet of felt on my summerhouse, also trying to put extra protection on aswell.
Oh the rain, you are not kidding , I don’t think it’s ever going to stop. But I too noticed my Helebores are also flowering really lifts the mood.
Here in the desert, I would welcome rain or snow.🤷🏻♀️

As much as i try to find the good in this time of the year it can still be pretty bleak. We need more winter sunshine and frosty weather to give us a bit of a lift... Winter like all seasons has its good moments too but the amount of rain falling has been beyond ridiculous, makes me want to go into hibernation a lot of the time.... I'm sure your new hubby would love to fix the roof on the shed for you... Hee Hee ! 😁
Hellebore's the only ray of sunshine in a miserable wet month.
Though they have also become a weed for me I have that many new baby plants from the previous years,

seeing your shed reminded me last year we totally insulated our shed with the insulation in hello fresh then lined with wood, totally stops damp and condensation hope that helps after you repair the roof, , it will be nice when sun eventually comes out

Just so you feel a bit better we’ve had a shockingly wet December in South Australia - on Christmas Day the temperature here was the same as Dorset where I come from, except it was windier and wetter here. It’s the last two days of my summer holiday aaannnddd it’s blinking pouring down again.
So I’m working in my shed - insulating and lining it. Problem is it’s 26°C and humid as a tropical swamp - I’m so wet I may as well be in the rain.
I’m on my third generation of tomato plants this summer - the last two lots just got blight and fell to bits.
Let’s hope the weather improves soon !!

Oh, by the way, no flowers growing here in Chicago area. Northwest Indiana actually. All I have alive is one kale plant. It refuses to die. 😂 We are supposed to have the warmest winter we’ve ever had this year. Mostly rain they say. My one kale plant will live another year. Usually needs to get below -10 Celsius to kill this dwarf curly kale. I’ve heard about people in warm climates that grow there kale for several years and it get really tall. But mine will probably go to seed as soon as it warms up, that’s usually what happens when they survive winter. Decades ago we never had warm weather now. Usually -20C to -5C by now. Last 2 winters now, We haven’t had snow until January. So far, just a light dusting of snow.

Its rained constantly this year, why would the end of it be any different? IT SUCKS! But maybe 2024 will be a better year weatherwise who knows. Sometimes other things in life are more important than the allotment at this time of year ! I had a few packets of seeds from friends and a horticultural diary that will be greatly appreciated. Lovely Handcream from Neals Yard Bee Lovely range , always in need of some as a gardener. I ordered some bare root perennials in a special offer so that has forced me down to the greenhouse to get on with potting them up.slight drip from the roof so have to be careful where I stand but not as dramatic as your roof. I think it’s all fixable though. Love your hellebores, makes a garden trip worthwhile!

Can’t believe I could pull them out - the ground should be frozen! Hope you can get your shed roof fixed before there is too much damage. Happy 2024 to you!
Here in France it has rained now for 14 weeks. Had about 2 dry days and I now have COVID for the first time. So I guess another 2-3 weeks of no gardening.

I'm happy with you, hellebores, they are also my favorite, but mine are currently hidden under a thick layer of ice and snow. but I know they already have buds, I noticed them at the end of October, so I'm looking forward to seeing them when the snow melts. I hope that the winter will not affect them in any extreme way and they will bloom like yours.

YASSS! My hellebores are starting to sprout too! I love them because they're the first proper pretty flower to appear in the new year. I always buy them in the sales too, the year before. Makes them even more exciting when it's their first year flowering ☺️
The winds we have had recently have been awful! My neighbours greenhouse is to the floor. Hopefully, the shed shouldn't be a too bigger job!

Welcome back Katrina. Such a shame about the shed. Hope it dries out. Everyone is in the same boat about rain (no pun intended!). Not sure which is the worst part of the country. Luckily my plot is not waterlogged but I know many plots on our colony are under water. I visited the other day after storm Gerrit fearing the worst but amazingly all the ground cover was in place as was the netting so I have been so lucky so far. I can’t wait to get started next year!
Happy New Year, Katrina! I I sense that you've been feeling somewhat overwhelmed these last few months, so I hope your life starts to slow down over the winter. My advice would be to prioritize the projects that need to be addressed on your allotment, then tackle them one at a time. The shed roof would be my first recommendation, to prevent any further water damage inside and out. This will also provide you with a snug place to enjoy a cup of tea while you address the outdoor chores.

We've actually had quite a wet start to our December here in Australia... but on this final day of the year, I have my dahlia's blooming and the first couple of sun flowers are opening up too (other flowers have come and gone and some are on their way). Happy New Year to you and yours!
It's so annoying about the damage to your shed roof, but nice to see the hellebores in bud at this time of year. We had a few dry hours yesterday afternoon here in Hampshire in the South of England. I have been planting more Spring bulbs just to keep going at the allotment. The bulbs already planted in early autumn have new shoots popping up. I also have some hellebores in bud, not quite as open as some of yours. I think there may be an Anna's Red that I planted after you showed yours in an earlier video. Happy New Year, and hopefully some drier weather to come soon!
I know how you feel Katrina, we have a plot that is bone dry in the summer but by November is waterlogged and not fit to work, sadly we won't be doing much before March now ! Hope you manage to patch that roof soon, no doubt we have plenty more rain coming yet this winter and it takes an age to dry out once wet !

Hi Katrina, just found your channel, have some catching up to do with yr videos. Am searching for chilli growing tips. I live in Stapleford, so the other side of Nottingham. I don't have an allotment be the garden is pretty big and has a decent size greenhouse that needs a major tidy up. I will be starting my chillis in the spare bedroom soon but need to get some lighting similar to yours. Any advice on make and model would be useful. All the best for this growing season. It’s not that bad. You just need another beam inside there to pop up that saggy board. And some new shingles. That could be done in half a day. Even by an nonprofessional. Your husband can handle it, he’s handy. 😊

How are the fish doing with the abundance of rain? How would you/do you handle when the tub/pool overflows?
They’re fine 🙂 In the winter months they hang out at the bottom of the pond when it’s cooler but I also have two mesh covered overflow holes at the top of the tank to prevent them from flowing out.
