im saving money already to get a ripmo. we also got a shop in town selling ibis bikes. feels like a child in the toy store looking at all those bikes they have shown in the store. by the time i’ve the money done i really hope to get a good deal with the v2. so to have some extra for new helmet and protectors. amazing video too, really helpful and a great insight you share for design and geometry. greetings from austria
Really enjoyed this vid Jeff. Great work. Very informative and honest. I still love my Ripmo v1. Have put a wolftooth 1 degree angle headset in it to get a 64.9 degree head angle. Apart from that, and upgrading to a grip 2 on the fork, it’s pretty much as it came. Brilliant fun trail to light enduro bike … that can also handle some heavier steeper terrain like we have in New Zealand. Cheer’s
Me too man. Ripmo v1 for 4 years with a Works -1 degree angled headset makes it like a v2. I love it as all all-around super fun yet highly capable ripper! Even handles bike park days just fine. Still following JKW since he turned me on to the Ripmo in the first place!
For those not familiar with Aussie slang. We call Ibis' Bin Chickens. Generally they're seen picking through the bins in parks. However Ibis bikes certainly don't look like Bin Chickens. Noice bike!
Great content and great riding! The way you set up your Ripmo is almost identical to a Firebird in a size small frame. Your reviews of the Firebird and the Switchblade were great. You probably could turn a small frame Firebird into your daily driver. It’s geometry and specs are very similar to a medium Firebird and a medium Ripmo with the 170 forks
Stay warm is 43 degrees c warm enough in the aussie desert yesterday ha ha , great video and you will be happy to know i use old zip ties for heaps of uses grease is one always cut behind the clip so you can use them again and again , 👍from down under .
Great review as always, thank you! I bought two Ripmo AFs frames from JensonUSA for myself and my son because of your reviews, both with DVO Onyx/Jade X. Totally agree they are a best all-around bikes even today. Bumped both to 170 and enjoy them on all sorts of trail here in socal. Even got some of my buddies to switch to V2s from Stumpjumers! Hope Ibis keeps the Ripmo right where it is (but maybe at 170mm and 64 hta) and makes a non-electric Oso a Transition Spire/Santa Cruz Megatower type option
Agree 100% with ya! I'm surprised that Ibis clings so strong to this new "race oriented mantra" when in reality the EWS guys need ~170mm bikes for their gnarlier tracks. Ibis has begun to be very conservative with new bikes to market, so not sure we'll see a bigger Ripmo anytime soon.
Loved your view on this Jeff. I love my Bugzapper blue Ripmo and wouldn't upgrade right now. I also like your input on other bikes at the end in comparison. I am considering the SB160 now and not sure how I'll like it compared to my Ripmo once it sells... I'm pretty active rider like you and appreciate the poppy behavior of the Ripmo but curious of the Yeti racy feel... Keep rocking Jeff, ride on...
Nice to see Ibis not messing with an amazing frame besides improving the small nitpicks (UDH, chainstay/downtube protection). Upgrading from my V2 seems wildly unnecessary for those minor improvements. Totally agree if I had one bike it would be the Ripmo.
@MB Rides Exactly how i feel going from my Yeti sb130lr to the new sb140 ...Literally makes not sense as paying customer...Love that the new bikes weren't complete re-designs .. Makes me feel like mine is still fairly current...haha
@@flow2tech Agree with you totally. What is the LR, 137-138mm of travel, compared to 140? Not much a difference. I think the real difference would be felt on the SB115 vs SB120 and the SB150 vs SB160. The changes made in both of these would seem to indicate a much different feel, and the reviews seem to indicate that. Reviews seem to also indicate the not much difference in feel between the 130LR and the 140 so...
Oh yeah man, I won't upgrade mine either. Coming from a guy who "upgraded" star dest. grey to the Bugzapper blue color, lol. I know a new Ripmo is in the works but probably won't see it until late next year I suspect.

I think a size specific chainstay is the best thing. Im 6 ft and I get the chance to enjoy a similar ride feeling as you. My bike is long, a Privateer 161 and its a 490 Reach with a 446 chainstay and its perfect
Space Wolf!!!! I feel like that trail doesn't get enough love. Sure its a one-trick pony and loses a lot of elevation in a short time, but its not as often that you get to ride something that steep on Galbraith. I like to ride that trail every month or so, and I'm glad I'm not the only one!

LOL, I have been trying to track down 165 XT or SLX cranks for ages. I finally got some XT 165, but if I like the switch from 170, I'll be hunting for more. I am glad they are finally making SLX in 165. I appreciated the contrast of both DWs vs DELTA. I've ridden a few DW and Split Pivot, but only one DELTA, (2018 Following MB.) It would be awesome if you could give Salsa and devinci a try to be able to contrast all of the Weagle platforms. (I guess as long as I am dreaming, throw the Robot/Atherton DW6 in there, lol)
You make that jump section in the beginning look so effortless…bastard! Personally, I still prefer the original head badge like on my V1 Ripley vs the new sticker.
I think a comparison video with the new SB140 Lunch ride seeing as your modes to the Ripmo are like a Lunch Ride. The Switchblade comes stock with more of Lunch ride version.
NICE! Very similar bike to the V2S- just not as stiff torsionally (less confident on landings/rough stuff) and 2 lbs heavier. I have my old AF here still, need to build it up and sell it soon!
Ibis always does incremental changes, no radical ones - they're so damn good they don't need to! However, I was predicting maybe they would redesign or update the DW-Link ( since it hasn't been done yet), maybe add some kind of Geo-adjust, still, they don't need to do that either...LOL. Still on my V1 Ripmo and absolutely love it! When I went riding the other day I was thinking that I could never go back to a short travel 29er ( had a Ripley before) and a bike other than a Ripmo!..LOL. IMO, the Ripmo checks all the boxes! - Handles, pedals, climbs, and descends amazing! Perfectly balanced! If something was to happen to my frame, I'd just get another Ripmo without a second thought!
Just bought a ripmo AF frame a few weeks ago. Such an awesome bike! I'm currently trying out coil setups and a Cascade link.. we shall see. Not convinced it's better than the air shock.
Interesting that i found what you describe in my new ripley v4. Even though you recommended to me the ripmo i went with the ripley because i love how fast it climbs and how poppy it is. I cant plow this bike through bumpy sections but thats what i like about it. Its so poppy that majority of stuff i avoid by jumping over it and the feeling that my line choice matters adds up to the fun. That’s obviously super subjective. But i added alot of psi in the rear not to bottom out on big jumps :) , i know im riding it outside of its comfort zone but i weirdly like it. Maybe i will replace one day my rocky mountain instinct bc version with a ripmo.
Yeah, the Ripley is a rocket and just wants to blast off anything, whether that be climbs or off rocks. If I could own both I would but I went with a Ripmo and love ability to run a 170 fork and run it on some pretty gnarly downhill chunk and its fantastic.

Thx Jeff. I rode a spire for a year but realized I needed agility over stability, mainly for race applications. So I got a Firebird and I’m very happy with the decision. Curious how you’d compare the ripmo to the Firebird. Firebird being longer travel but considering the short back end. Both DWs. Lmk your thoughts.
Really impressive riding, and your review style is great. Question for you, are you riding the loam grips in standard or XL width? And what size gloves do you wear, for reference?
Is the cascade link migrating over to the new bike? Your review is spot on. I've been on my Ripmo for 2 years now and it is happiest on a flow trail with a lot of elevation change. And yes the RIpmo cornering feel can be a bit vague if you don't pump the bike through the corner, the Ripmo is a bike that you have to be active on to really get it to come alive, it's not like a Stumpy Evo that almost rides better with a passive riding style.
I might move the Cascade link over, it's a 1/4 pound heavier, but it does help with small bump and plushness. This time of the year, that extra traction can be nice, but I certainly dont think the link is mandatory. I'll mess with it again when my X2 explodes.
Great review. Thanks. So, has the yoke mounted shock on the Ripmo caused any issues? I’ve had several instances of shock failure, specifically aeration of the damper oil, with yoke mounted shocks. Always seemed to occur in cold weather riding which I hear “stiffens” the seals and can make aeration more likely to occur. Probably lots of variable specific to frame design beyond just a yoke mounted shock but I’ve stayed away from the Ripmo because of this. Otherwise seems like a great bike. Thoughts?
Jeff is a better rider than me. That being said I herd him say he set his sag at 30% on the evil offering. I have owned the remote version to the yeti SB 130 as well as the Mojave white switchblade. I just built up an offering and went with Rockshox for the first time. Set my SAG to the recommended 20% and although it is plusher, I feel it is much popular Set at 20% then Jeff’s review gave it. I absolutely loved my ripmo undeniably but I feel that the more plush suspension and added traction makes the evil a much more capable bike. Also, you can get a one and a half degree angle set through evil, which makes it slacker than the Ritmo if you need the extra capability. I always find it interesting that rider Waite and writing style drastically changes the opinion of Mike’s performance. It doesn’t make either opinion right or wrong. Just interesting. Great review Jeff.
The Ripmo sits in a middle ground of which rider it is best for. The Evil is probably better for smaller and lighter riders. The stock Ripmo is best for someone around Jeff's size, and can be made decent for a larger rider with a cascade link, but a stock Ripmo is probably a little too linear for a 200+lb rider who likes to get sendy. I say this as a 200+lb rider who rides a cascade linked Ripmo as my only bike and have over 500 bike park miles on it on top of several thousand trail miles.
Hi, Im still deciding which bike should I buy, I like the geometry of the switchblade having the shock in vertical position than horizontal like the Ripmo but I feel the ripmo is more capable on the descents. both have dw link so climbing must feel pretty similar, any recommendations? thanks!
Good video, however, i do wish you would have it stock. With the 170mm fork that gives it a bit more slack im left wondering, so how is it in stock form? You rode the Stumpy EVO and mentioned some issues with high speeds, and im left wondering if a stock ripmo would have the same issues.
I'm curious to hear how these bikes compare to the big brands from Specialized and Trek. These look sweet but why I should entertain an Ibis over a Stumpjumper at 130/140 or even the Evo?
Having a hard time deciding between the 2023 Ripmo v2s or the 2023 Ripley v4s... this will be my first full suspension mountain bike (i've always ridden hardtails, I'll be coming off a 2021 Salsa Timberjack w/ a 130mm front fork). I mainly ride undulating flow trails with chunky tree roots in Alaska, but do a big big trip every year towards the moab/colorado/northwest area. The big factor is I broke my back and neck 3 years ago whitewater kayaking, so I'm looking to soften the hard ride of the softtail up. I would love to have a lighter bike like the Ripley, but the extra cush of the Ripmo would probably feel better on my back. Any suggestions?
Jeff I have the V2 and I don't want to change anything about it, absolutely love it. However as the industry incorporates the universal hanger. First is it possible and would ever make sense to just swap out the rear triangle? I'm not a very Savvy Bike mechanic, I can just do the basics so I don't know if that's a valid question.
I haven't added vol. spacers to my V2 yet maybe its time to play around with that. To be honest I'm happy there isn't much difference in the V2 vs v2s, I really like my bug zapper 😂

Hey Jeff! Just ordered a V2S so I was excited to see your video, question I hope you’d answer: I had a Ripmo AF before with the DVO air shock and loved it. It was very tight and responsive which I liked. I’m a very active/poppy rider and don’t want something that anchors me to the ground. The new bike has the Fox Factory shock but I can swap it out for a DVO as it’s being built. How do you feel about the stock Fox shock? Should I leave it and just add spacers or swap it out for the DVO?
I'm not Jeff of course, but I've had the V2 in both colors since it came out. I would go with the DVO Topaz Gen. 3 shock. It's easier to set up, its lighter than the Fox and it is more reliable than the Fox. I'm speaking if this is the Fox X2. Many of my friends new X2 shocks have blown up and it was not the old one but the new one. They all reported that it took about 2-3 weeks before their shock returned. I've run DVO Topaz and never one issue and they are totally customizable by way of the bladder air volume and volume spacers that can easily be installed for more poppier ride or more plush ride or more midstroke support. Not sure what the issue is with fox right now. Plus DVO is easy to contact over the phone, an actual person will answer and they are super helpful and passionate about bikes. If you are that very "active/poppy rider" you'll enjoy the DVO. My 2 cents... Hopefully Jeff will jump in here.

Then I had an X2 on my specialized enduro and have not been a fan but I was willing to trust ibis had picked the right shock. My bike is being built now so maybe I’ll have them swap in the topaz. Hi Jeff. I’m riding a 2018 V1 Ripmo (size L) with a -1 degree works components headset. I’m debating whether to slacken it out a bit more by upping the fork to 170mm. What do you think? The works headset made a massive improvement when I fitted it 2 years ago.
Hey Jeff, great video! I really enjoy your content. You mentioned not favoring the HTA on the Offering. Just curious if you were aware of the 1.5 degree Angleset you can purchase on Evil's website?
Yeah I ran a -1° works/Evil headset on mine. It was a good bike, but I prefer bikes that more reward an active style. If I could only ride the Offering for the rest of eternity though, that'd still be just fine by me! Two years later, I can say the Offering is solidly a great bike.

@@calebwonhas8880 I've had both the V2 Ripmo and the Arrival, both such awesome bikes with different ride characteristics. If I had to settle on one I'd go with the Arrival but its still a close call. It just depends on what strengths you want to focus on. In short, the Ripmo is a bit of a better (more energetic) climber but the Arrival can leave the Ripmo in the rear view mirror on the descents.
with 1.76 cm which size do you recommend ? I'm currently using a L Ripley AF and a medium transition patrol, just asking because im in the edge and im afraid of the L size ripmo, I think it can feel less nimble maybe.

Hey Paul, it's worth playing around with, as they can really change the feel of the last 1/4 stroke of suspension. On air shocks, as you reduce volume, you increase progression. Bike brands get so many complaints from consumers that are seemingly "unable to bottom out their bike" that they often spec a really linear setting for the OEM configuration. The thinking is that the smaller group of advanced riders that will actually need more progression is already aware of the ease of changing air volume via the reducer kits, and can then tune the bike to their preference, but the beginners would have no idea and would eventually just have a sub par overall experience. Hey Frank, stock 160 is great. But I tend to like the higher BB and slightly slacker head angle that comes with the 170, so for me with ~5 years on this platform, Ive learned that I like the bigger forks.
Yep, they’d be better off with the FloatX or new Topaz as stock spec. Also I think Jeff is the only dude out there who actually likes the dpx2 on the Ripmo. 😅
Yes, I certainly prefer the carbon over the AF. It's stiffer, lighter, and that results in a better overall ride. Mechanically, the carbon is a lot easier to build up with the inner tunnels for the cable housing.
Ok. Headset press. Does anyone knows why they come so long? So so long.. The world longest head tube is probably shorter than 20 cm. Does it really need to be half a meter long?

The routing reminded me of trying to pull some cable slack on my wife’s Ripley, didn’t budge.
Yeah it can get supper jammed into the chainstay. I wish they'd made it easier/smoother and added a small cable clamp during part of this update.

However, I was predicting maybe they would redesign or update the DW-Link ( since it hasn't been done yet), maybe add some kind of Geo-adjust, still, they don't need to do that either...LOL.
Still on my V1 Ripmo and absolutely love it! When I went riding the other day I was thinking that I could never go back to a short travel 29er ( had a Ripley before) and a bike other than a Ripmo!..LOL. IMO, the Ripmo checks all the boxes! - Handles, pedals, climbs, and descends amazing! Perfectly balanced! If something was to happen to my frame, I'd just get another Ripmo without a second thought!

Just bought a ripmo AF frame a few weeks ago. Such an awesome bike! I'm currently trying out coil setups and a Cascade link.. we shall see. Not convinced it's better than the air shock.
Yeah I prefer the air shock for my style. Coil is better for "wheels on the ground". Af is a great bike tho!

Interesting that i found what you describe in my new ripley v4. Even though you recommended to me the ripmo i went with the ripley because i love how fast it climbs and how poppy it is. I cant plow this bike through bumpy sections but thats what i like about it. Its so poppy that majority of stuff i avoid by jumping over it and the feeling that my line choice matters adds up to the fun. That’s obviously super subjective. But i added alot of psi in the rear not to bottom out on big jumps :) , i know im riding it outside of its comfort zone but i weirdly like it. Maybe i will replace one day my rocky mountain instinct bc version with a ripmo.
Yeah, the Ripley is a rocket and just wants to blast off anything, whether that be climbs or off rocks. If I could own both I would but I went with a Ripmo and love ability to run a 170 fork and run it on some pretty gnarly downhill chunk and its fantastic.

Curious how you’d compare the ripmo to the Firebird. Firebird being longer travel but considering the short back end. Both DWs. Lmk your thoughts.

Is the cascade link migrating over to the new bike? Your review is spot on. I've been on my Ripmo for 2 years now and it is happiest on a flow trail with a lot of elevation change. And yes the RIpmo cornering feel can be a bit vague if you don't pump the bike through the corner, the Ripmo is a bike that you have to be active on to really get it to come alive, it's not like a Stumpy Evo that almost rides better with a passive riding style.
I might move the Cascade link over, it's a 1/4 pound heavier, but it does help with small bump and plushness. This time of the year, that extra traction can be nice, but I certainly dont think the link is mandatory. I'll mess with it again when my X2 explodes.
Fun fact - IBIS are called bin chickens in Australia. Riders refer to their bikes as bin chickens

Great review. Thanks. So, has the yoke mounted shock on the Ripmo caused any issues? I’ve had several instances of shock failure, specifically aeration of the damper oil, with yoke mounted shocks. Always seemed to occur in cold weather riding which I hear “stiffens” the seals and can make aeration more likely to occur. Probably lots of variable specific to frame design beyond just a yoke mounted shock but I’ve stayed away from the Ripmo because of this. Otherwise seems like a great bike. Thoughts?

Jeff is a better rider than me. That being said I herd him say he set his sag at 30% on the evil offering. I have owned the remote version to the yeti SB 130 as well as the Mojave white switchblade. I just built up an offering and went with Rockshox for the first time. Set my SAG to the recommended 20% and although it is plusher, I feel it is much popular Set at 20% then Jeff’s review gave it. I absolutely loved my ripmo undeniably but I feel that the more plush suspension and added traction makes the evil a much more capable bike. Also, you can get a one and a half degree angle set through evil, which makes it slacker than the Ritmo if you need the extra capability. I always find it interesting that rider Waite and writing style drastically changes the opinion of Mike’s performance. It doesn’t make either opinion right or wrong. Just interesting. Great review Jeff.
The Ripmo sits in a middle ground of which rider it is best for. The Evil is probably better for smaller and lighter riders. The stock Ripmo is best for someone around Jeff's size, and can be made decent for a larger rider with a cascade link, but a stock Ripmo is probably a little too linear for a 200+lb rider who likes to get sendy. I say this as a 200+lb rider who rides a cascade linked Ripmo as my only bike and have over 500 bike park miles on it on top of several thousand trail miles.
Hi, Im still deciding which bike should I buy, I like the geometry of the switchblade having the shock in vertical position than horizontal like the Ripmo but I feel the ripmo is more capable on the descents. both have dw link so climbing must feel pretty similar, any recommendations? thanks!
Good video, however, i do wish you would have it stock. With the 170mm fork that gives it a bit more slack im left wondering, so how is it in stock form? You rode the Stumpy EVO and mentioned some issues with high speeds, and im left wondering if a stock ripmo would have the same issues.

Having a hard time deciding between the 2023 Ripmo v2s or the 2023 Ripley v4s... this will be my first full suspension mountain bike (i've always ridden hardtails, I'll be coming off a 2021 Salsa Timberjack w/ a 130mm front fork).
I mainly ride undulating flow trails with chunky tree roots in Alaska, but do a big big trip every year towards the moab/colorado/northwest area. The big factor is I broke my back and neck 3 years ago whitewater kayaking, so I'm looking to soften the hard ride of the softtail up. I would love to have a lighter bike like the Ripley, but the extra cush of the Ripmo would probably feel better on my back. Any suggestions?

Jeff I have the V2 and I don't want to change anything about it, absolutely love it. However as the industry incorporates the universal hanger.
First is it possible and would ever make sense to just swap out the rear triangle?
I'm not a very Savvy Bike mechanic, I can just do the basics so I don't know if that's a valid question.
I haven't added vol. spacers to my V2 yet maybe its time to play around with that. To be honest I'm happy there isn't much difference in the V2 vs v2s, I really like my bug zapper 😂

Hey Jeff! Just ordered a V2S so I was excited to see your video, question I hope you’d answer:
I had a Ripmo AF before with the DVO air shock and loved it. It was very tight and responsive which I liked. I’m a very active/poppy rider and don’t want something that anchors me to the ground.
The new bike has the Fox Factory shock but I can swap it out for a DVO as it’s being built. How do you feel about the stock Fox shock?
Should I leave it and just add spacers or swap it out for the DVO?
I'm not Jeff of course, but I've had the V2 in both colors since it came out. I would go with the DVO Topaz Gen. 3 shock. It's easier to set up, its lighter than the Fox and it is more reliable than the Fox. I'm speaking if this is the Fox X2. Many of my friends new X2 shocks have blown up and it was not the old one but the new one. They all reported that it took about 2-3 weeks before their shock returned. I've run DVO Topaz and never one issue and they are totally customizable by way of the bladder air volume and volume spacers that can easily be installed for more poppier ride or more plush ride or more midstroke support. Not sure what the issue is with fox right now. Plus DVO is easy to contact over the phone, an actual person will answer and they are super helpful and passionate about bikes. If you are that very "active/poppy rider" you'll enjoy the DVO. My 2 cents... Hopefully Jeff will jump in here.

Hi Jeff. I’m riding a 2018 V1 Ripmo (size L) with a -1 degree works components headset. I’m debating whether to slacken it out a bit more by upping the fork to 170mm. What do you think? The works headset made a massive improvement when I fitted it 2 years ago.

Yeah I ran a -1° works/Evil headset on mine. It was a good bike, but I prefer bikes that more reward an active style. If I could only ride the Offering for the rest of eternity though, that'd still be just fine by me! Two years later, I can say the Offering is solidly a great bike.

@@calebwonhas8880 I've had both the V2 Ripmo and the Arrival, both such awesome bikes with different ride characteristics. If I had to settle on one I'd go with the Arrival but its still a close call. It just depends on what strengths you want to focus on. In short, the Ripmo is a bit of a better (more energetic) climber but the Arrival can leave the Ripmo in the rear view mirror on the descents.

Hey Paul, it's worth playing around with, as they can really change the feel of the last 1/4 stroke of suspension. On air shocks, as you reduce volume, you increase progression. Bike brands get so many complaints from consumers that are seemingly "unable to bottom out their bike" that they often spec a really linear setting for the OEM configuration. The thinking is that the smaller group of advanced riders that will actually need more progression is already aware of the ease of changing air volume via the reducer kits, and can then tune the bike to their preference, but the beginners would have no idea and would eventually just have a sub par overall experience. Hey Frank, stock 160 is great. But I tend to like the higher BB and slightly slacker head angle that comes with the 170, so for me with ~5 years on this platform, Ive learned that I like the bigger forks.
Any thoughts on how swapping to a FOX 36 (at 160) from the stock FOX 38 (at 160) might change the ride? Awesome video - thanks JKW!

Yes, I certainly prefer the carbon over the AF. It's stiffer, lighter, and that results in a better overall ride. Mechanically, the carbon is a lot easier to build up with the inner tunnels for the cable housing.
