After knocking out Justin Gaethje at UFC 300, Max Holloway has a bunch of options to choose from and rightfully so. in this video, I came up with the three most logical matches for Holloway based on whatever his needs are. Let me know your thoughts on these matchups. - Спорт

I would like to see Max stay at 55 and build into the weight class more. I say that only because history shows that many times when a fighter moves up and puts muscle on for it then returns to the lower weight class they aren't the same. If we knew the weight cut wouldn't be affected and he would still be him then OK, I just worry the muscle he put on makes the cut harder and his body doesn't respond well.
Volk did it after first islam fight and put a clinic on in his next title defence
Max has looked bad at 145 during the weigh-ins, but . . . like the other commenter said Volk looked great when he went back down to 145. Hard to say . . . Would like to see Max stay at 155 and put on a little more muscle, get more comfortable, but if he drops to 145 and beats Topuria that would be legendary.
He should fight Topuria for the Featherweight belt next, but the BMF belt shouldn't be on the line. He should explain that Topuria hasn't done enough to prove that he's worthy of a BMF type fight / spotlight. In fact, Topuria only beat 5th ranked Emmett to get his title shot. He doesn't have a CRAZY highlight reel that people are searching a ton, etc. With the real belt on the line, it's understood that they are fighting to win and nothing else. Takedowns can be allowed and expected, obviously. But then O'Malley should be the second fight from now.
Win or lose vs Topuria, the following fight should be Sean Omalley at 145 for the BMF belt and not the Featherweight belt (if Max has it). This is the real fight to make. Self-proclaimed best boxer in the UFC vs Sean, who a lot of people view as a top 3 striker in the UFC himself after the Chito fight. While it could be a little difficult to sell this, I think Max can say that Sean has proved more of a BMF resume than Topuria. He has tons of highlight KOs, cocky moments in the ring, a bigtime scrap with Petyr Yan, and even slugged it out with Chito in the waning moments of the fight when he didn't have to similar to what Max has done on multiple occasions. Regardless, Max should position this as "I get to decide who a potential BMF can be. This is a fight that you all should want now that I'm one of the bigger draws in the sport." This fight could be sold as an obvious striking match up with no grappling to see who the best sub-185 lbs striker is in the sport. A fight where entertainment value is important to go along with the win.
The reason you have to do this in 2 fights instead of now is because of Merab. He deserves the shot. The way it still works for Sean, is that even if he loses to Merab, it won't be due to "badassery." He'll get taken down and wet blanketed or whatever. So he could still be eligible as a BMF even coming off a wrestling based loss. In the 135 division, there isn't a guy that NEEDS a title shot after Merab. Make Sandhagan vs Umar and Figgy vs Yan. If Cory wins, he's up against O'Malley and Sean will need to turn things around quickly... part of becoming deserving of BMF status. Merab likely won't truly hurt him anyways. If Umar wins, he fights the winner of Yan / Figgy for the title shot and O'Malley will have a normal turn-around time.
This is the sickest fight that could be made for the BMF in my opinion. Max doesn't need to put it on the line every time he fights. Just when it's time for a big show.
I rather see Islam vs max, topuria vs Sean
If he beats Topuria, O’Malley can kiss that dream goodbye lol if Holloway reclaims the featherweight belt he’s gonna move up no question. He’d 1000% take a BMF defense against McGregor/Chandler or a title shot at 155 than worry about a guy who has to move up to fight him. No disrespect to O’Malley, but he’s simply not in the picture for Holloway

@@jakemilano8868 Chandler wouldn’t be a bigger ppv draw, but if Max’s ultimate goal is to become champion at 155, which I think it is, it would certainly help him get there to defend the BMF at 155 against Chandler or another LW contender than fighting O’Malley at featherweight. The only featherweight that should be on his radar is Topuria for the belt.
Max got into UFC at age 20 fighting at 145. Bro has outgrown that now. Topuria is very well rounded and sharp. I dont think Max needs 145 title. Fight Conor if he beats Chandler. If Conor loses. Fight Chandler while you see what happens with DP and Islam. Likely Islam winning. Then, set up the title fight for Max if he gets through his next 155 fight with a dub

Movsar too, he should stay away from wrestlers. Topuria can wrestle too and would beat max easily but I doubt he would use his wrestling since it would be a very bad look for him and his Aura will drop massively

It's not only about raw power. Ilia has the best boxing in ufc. He is better than him,long combinations,amazing footwork, and great knockout power. He also has one of the best grappling in his weight class, could definitely dominate and submit holloway on the ground. He could also knock his lights out.

Not only that, but Holloway also has the blueprint to beat Islam in Volkanovski. Not only is Max a better striker overall (stylistically weaker to Volk) but he can improve greatly with his grappling with him as well.
Max as a lot of assets at his disposal going into an Makachev fight, it’s a dangerous pick but if prime Volk can get close, prime Max can surpass.
mcgregor cant cut enough weight and it would take time for max to gain proper weight, and he would have to let go of featherweight for a bit and maybe even lightweight

If Max does anything except defend the bmf against Conor, someone needs to do a brain scan on him. That's if Conor beats Chandler of course... and if Chandler beats Conor I still think defending the bmf against Chandler might be bigger than going after lightweight or featherweight belt. But Max should only have a to make that decision if Conor loses.

Him beating another striker like Gaethje by being more technical is one thing, but there's nothing he can do to prevent Islam from wrestling him into the cavas. Not to mention Islam already has 2 wins over Holloway's legal guardian, Volk.
Max vs. Illia then vs. Conor
I think fighting Conor is by far the smartest root. Max will beat Conor almost assuredly and the other 2 options would still be available after making an even bigger name and huge pay day.
He can take Ilar, get the belt while waiting for either Connor or winner of Islam/Poirier.

Why lose 10lbs of muscle he put on to drop down to 145…? Smart route is McGregor, then title shot at 155, if he wins. McGregor would go for that...he'll want a shot at BMF, then title shot at 155 or 170 himself. That said, he might well be finished, and lose to Chandler.
He should rematch dustin not jump ahead to islam makhachev. He could also fight the winner of conor and chandler. Obviously he should fight Ilia next.
The only way Conor gets into this conversation is for a potential $$ fight (though thats becoming less lucrative now because Conor fan base has been dwindling). Conor hasn't won a fight in almost 4 and half years, and the last time he fought was 3 years ago. Lets see if even fights Chandler in June, let alone beats him before he gets offered and other top level fighters.

• We all know conor isn't who he was in 2016 anymore.
• Red panty night is a fallacy. You get paid your usual rate by the ufc while conor gets paid those negotiated amounts. Just ask Cowboy Cerrone.
• Even if max beats Conor, it's not going to boost his star power because he already has that star power. Poirier beat conor but his star power didn't rise. Khabib only benefited due to their rivalry and conor being hot at that time.
• Right now conor is getting booked to put on entertaining match ups. We aren't denanding to watch him fight for a belt because we all know he's not that good anymore.
Ok before I say this by 0 MEANS am I a Conor fan/fanboy but explain to me how we know Conor isn’t good anymore? He loss to khabib who was a stylistic nightmare for him and Dustin Poirier who is a good fighter. In the second fight yea he lost but he did break his leg. I believe this fight will show if Conor is washed or not. Also Max Holloway is a star in the eyes of ufc fans but he isn’t on a global fan level like a Conor, Khabib, Jon Jones, etc. A Conor fight and a Conor win with the adding of the gaethje ko can definitely put him on that level.

• he hasn't won a fight since Cowboy Cerrone and even then that was an out of prime Cerrone who was sent in there as a tune up fight for McGregor. Cerrone was the Tony Ferguson of that era.
• Conor isn't as charismatic in the press conferences as he once was anymore. He just shows up and overtalks his opponents rather than outwit them.
• McGregor in his prime beat a seasoned wrestler in Chad Mendez so let's not act like he was a fish out of water when he fought Khabib.
• Conor McGregor isn't this big star who transcended MMA as a whole. Who are the people keeping this guy relevant? MMA fans. Boxing fans aren't the one watching Roadhouse. Soccer fans aren't watching Roadhouse. It us the MMA fans. If MMA fans moved on from Conor McGregor, you think he'd be able to fill up a stadium if let's say he fought Nate Diaz a third time? No.
• Conor is no where near the title picture. He's not championship material if he's losing to Dustin, who's losing to Justin, who just lost to max.
