It's weird to see you without facial hair, you looked like a completely different person! Selfish ask, but please never be clean shaven again. 😅
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I have a wedding this weekend and made a mistake when cleaning up the beard. So it all had to go rip
@lachyywhite oh no... Well, I'll do my best to not focus too much on the missing hair in future reactions. 🙈
@@lachyywhite you always look good!!!!! Don't limit yourself, change and even dare to try some things out of your comfort zone! I do it and it is funny af
"go win this thing" vs "lets win this thing". Suga wanted to tell Kageyama to go and win but changed his mind last second and said "we" will win this thing instead. the "text" you mention is his intrusive thought of giving up and letting kageyama do everything but instead he said no, we are in this together
Ahh okay that makes so much more sense now! Thank you for letting me know
@@lachyywhite yeah its a beautiful moment where suga flips from being content with winning thanks to kageyama to realizing he can actually contribute to victory himself by fighting in his own ways.
@@lachyywhite This part confuses a lot of people, so it's good to have a comment section to explain.
It's not perfectly clear in the show I'll say.
I think this is a good explanation but possibly wrong. It seemed like suga is used to saying to his team “let’s go win” and leading them onto the court and going with them. I think because he’s going back to the bench he changed his words. It seemed more like he was about to keep with his instinct of let’s go because until now he was never not going
@@christopherholfeld8137 text part says "go win this", instead he says out loud "lets win this". i dont know where you're getting that from
Small detail. But Asahi told Suga to give him the ball. because he knew it was Suga last play and it might be the last time he played with the team. He wanted to make sure he left on a high. Daichi also received the ball. So all the 3rd years made it happen together.Just hits me in the feels.
Ahhhh so true! Thank you for pointing that out for me! That's super cool
Sugawara was about to "pass a torch" to Kageyama, if he said "Go win this". But he corrected himself, because he still want to stand on a court. "Let's win this" as a team, vs "Go win this" as an individual.
Not only that but also recognition that he himself did just stand on the court and that whatever happens next he contributed to it!
Ahhh okay that's a good way to look at it!
"go win this" is like "you go win this"..buuut "let's win this", what suga actually said, brings himself into the team, as in "let's all of us win this together". He corrected himself...such a great detail, such a great character development.
Ahhh okay that makes so much more sense now! Thank you for explaining that for me.
The funny thing abt suga is that his voice actor has a similar vibe irl. His VA comes from one of the only agencies that produces child actors in japan and he in particular was successful from a very young age (he was Haku from spirited away and sora from kingdom hearts by the time he was 13) so whenever theres events held for voice actors of any of the stuff hes been in hes always had this older brother vibe in his interactions w others in the industry, except like, the one or two guys from his agency who act like older brothers towards him lmao.
Tsukishima's VA is from the same agency but is a few years younger than him and hes said before that he always knows a project is going to work out if Suga's va is signed on to it~
That is sooo cool
Suga is actually de vice-capitan, so you aren't that far off about him being a good capitan. (This also makes the whole Mom/Dad thing with Suga and Daichi more funny because they are literally in charge of the team as Capitan and Vice-Capitan)
The guy who was talking with kageyama is Ennoshita, he is a second year(with noya and tanaka), and he played on the practice match before asahi and noya came back! He and the other 2 second years (besides tanaka and noya) are a bit overlooked since they dont play much so they dont have much screentime, but you will see them around in backgtounds and stuff, so remember!! If you see a Karasuno player you dont recognize, he is probably a second year 😅
Okay amazing thank you so much for breaking this down for me!
Remember Ennoshita's name, as you've observed he's quite the underrated leader off the court ;) @@lachyywhite
Suga's way to shake his teammates off the negative thoughts is to punch them 😅 Noya gets a high five, because he's already positive 🏐🔥⚡⚡⚡
HAhahaha yes very true I loved his way of bringing the mood back up
Yay! You're the only reactor I've seen who realized how Suga and Oikawa are actually similar. They both have high EQs and good communication skills. Suga's entrance to the court was him trying to gauge the status of his players, and he had a different interaction with different players, even Tsukki. If you go back to 2eps ago, before their match started, during the practice hits, Oikawa did the same thing to Seijoh. He had a different conversation with each player depending on how his teammates were feeling. Oikawa was hyping up a 3rd yr close friend. He was apologizing to turnip head (a 1st yr) for a bad toss, to convey that turnip head can demand a better toss. He thought Iwa-chan was tense, so he teases Iwa-chan to distract him.
The plain reason why Oikawa wasn't a good mentor to Kageyama (and this isn't a spoiler), is because Oikawa is an ambitious, competitive, petty, immature teenager hahahaha; even more so when Oikawa and Kageyama were in middle school. Aside from Kageyama's constant precision, the other fantastical aspect of Haikyuu is that there are very few immature characters for a show filled with highly competitive male teenagers full of testosterone. Sure Asahi had a mental breakdown from fear of failure, but that could happen even with adults and top players. Plain toxic immaturity though... we only see that with Oikawa, Tsukki, and sometimes Kageyama.
I did notice the way they both go about understanding their team and how to bring out the best. I think they've both read my favourite book how to win friends and influence people.
some notes on japanese!
1. "refreshing" in japanese is 清々しい (sugazugashii), which is why oikawa calls suga "mr. refreshing.
2. the subtitles don't really explain it (it's expected, bc of how different english/japanese grammar is), but that part with suga at the end is basically him switching from "you get out there and win this" to "let's win this". 勝てよ(kateyo, the text that popped up on the screen) is in the command/imperative form. he uses the unconjugated form 勝つよ (katsuyo) instead, including himself in the declaration :)
i love this episode not just for how it shows suga off, but also for seeing kageyama and hinata interact on the bench, since this is the first time they're off the court together. some of their funniest interactions happen in this episode imo
long comment is long. excited for the end of the season!!
Ahhh okay that's amazing thank you for explaining that for me!
The origin of Sugawara's nickname is a misunderstanding. The kanji "菅原"does not have the meaning of "refreshing".
I checked, but there were no depictions of people giving nicknames based on their names.
It is natural to think that Sugawara's refreshing appearance and behavior earned him the nickname "Mr. Refreshing."
@@stozero_chan i always just assumed it's a phonetic pun 😅 though i guess the intention of the name was never confirmed
@@clementinekitten8305
I apologize if I offended you. 😢I'm not going to disagree with everything you say.
@@stozero_chan oh nah you're good! it's just smth ive seen in other comment sections, so i put it here :)
Don't know if it's kinda spoilery, but to answer your question, oikawa is more competetive compared to sugawara. As to why he's so cold/mean to kageyama is because he fears getting passed. Imagine that you have worked hard for 2 years and have gotten used to being the best setter around and then some snot nosed kid catches up to you in almost no time. That's why he's so stingy. I'm not saying that it's okay but i understand him somewhat.
Of all the Haikyuu reactors I've watched, you're probably the first I heard calling out Kageyama's junior high coach.
I'm out for his blood hahah
This episode just turns me into a proud parent to the whole Karasuno team. They're being so good to and for each other, Suga is perfect, and seeing Kageyama get the support he needs does things to my heart.
It was a super wholesome episode and I was so happy to see kageyama finally get the support he needs
Reminder for the after credits on episode 24
Haikyu movie is now in theaters in Japan and has surpassed ¥10 billion at the box office.
Wowzers! I'm glad it's doing super well
Always appreciate the flexes.
Don't sleep on Ennoshita (the 2nd year giving Kageyama advice), even the side characters come into their own eventually ;)
Hahahah thanks so much, and I'm starting to see they even flesh out the side characters!
tobio: "hinata it's coming directly to you"
hinata: still hits the ball somehow
tobio not even a second later: "YOU SUCK!"
lmao that gets me every time.
Their relationship is hilarious and I'm all here for it
tbh I absolutely love how Kageyama and Hinata are fighting even when Kageyama is out of court, and that casual fight pose when they were talking to Ennoshita 😂 they live for volleyball and fighting I swear
I'm waiting so much for the next episode, I need more Oikawa❤️🔥
They are like an old married couple hahah
I think what we can get from this eps is how a good communication and sincerity are the keys. Suga and Ennoshita (the wise guy) talk to Kageyama without being condescending. That's why their words get to his heart. And you see how well Kageyama received their words. Ukai also didn't scold him and only told him to cool down and watch his senpai. They didn't blame him or has his back to the wall, that's why Kageyama able to calm quickly and re-focus.
And Suga is showing his true skill, just like Kageyama said in eps 5, Suga has experience, and that's not to be taken lightly. Suga is smart and observant. He did so well to get the team back to the right track. But if Karasuno want to win then Kageyama is the one who need to take the lead.
It was so great to finally see kageyama in a place where he is cherished properly and has some good leadership!
What a great senpai Suga is! Ennoshita is also a good senpai to advise Kageyama.
I am so glad that Kageyama had great team at Karasuno.
Kageyama definately needed to learn how to communicate with other players since it was his only weakness.
26:25 The subject in sentence is often omitted in Japanese oral conversation.
The handwriting shows KATEYO (勝てよ, was translated to "go win this")which means "YOU (Kageyama in this case) have to win" but Suga immediately changed it to KATSUZO (勝つぞ, was translated to "let's win this thing") which means WE will win.
It must be tricky to show the difference in English since the both original phrases had no "subject".
It is so great that he is with a strong team now that can support him, and that makes so much more sense now thank you!
also when you said "suga would be a good captain" ... idk if it's really a spoiler per se but he IS the vice captain :) which i think is amazing cause you have stern daichi and sweet suga who can swap roles if they have to :)
Ahhh okay that makes total sense! He's such a good leader to have as well
the comradery between these boys is so strong. The third years feel an obligation for one another to bring the best out in each other. That's why Asahi figured out Sugamama was gonna get benched and took that personally.
The older boys are doing such a great job of being leaders
Can I propose a game for you? Choose your DREAM TEAM.
You are near to finish the first season and you have met a lot of characters from different teams (Karasuno, Nekoma, Tokonami, Date Tech and Seijoh), so, you can choose any player from any team in order to create your own:
- Choose players for each position/role in the court (you can add some substitutes if you want)
- Who is the captain? Who is the ace?
I'm curious about your opinion as a pleyer.
It will be fun if you do it again after each season, because in each one you will meet new cool characters.
omg yes please! i've seen a couple of reactors who played vb do this. it's so interesting to see!
I will absolutely be doing this after each season!
Yes. We need this
This episode fills me with the warm fuzzies. I was never the super talented “genius” player when I did sports, but I had a good friend who was a softball goddess. They kept bumping her up to play with higher age groups for “fairness” and she ended up playing against girls who were 17-18 when she was 13 by the time it was all said and done. She developed some really bad habits and personality quirks during that time because no one bothered to coach or lead her because they saw how talented she was and thought she’d just figure it out on her own or some shit. Idk. Anyway I feel like Kageyama is the same way and to see him getting the support and guidance he needs and deserves makes me so happy. I wish my friend could have had that. She pretty much self destructed when she didn’t fit in on her high school team and never went any further with her career. I always felt with the right coach and captain she could have made it to the next level but that’s ancient history now.
7:22 Suga is a very observant person, and because he's a sub, he used this to his advantage by observing the opponents while standing outside the court.
Yes indeed I absolutely loved that
I know its removed to avoid copyright issues but damn its a little sad hearing the dialog without the music ;_;
I experimented a bit on this episode, so if people prefer it the other way I can easily change it back!
Can't believe I missed the notification, Asahi telling suga he's gonna get it through is why I love him, weak willed most of the time but when it comes to his boys he's a straight up savage.
Nice change to the audio to man and stop apologising for pausing its what we're watching for
"Not to flex ..." *Big Lachy does one of his standard, at least once per episode, flexes.* You love to see it.
HAHAHAHAH caught in 4k
Nice gun show 🤭
I love this episode, Suga is giving so much mother here. Daichi is the glue of the team and the driving force, the passion, but all that leads to tunnel vision and pressure and Suga is that Mr Refreshing who comes in and does a reset and ALSO is a strategic beast who comes in with all these fresh ideas from watching on the side.
Suga, Ennoshita, daddy Daichi and Ukai were so based this episode.
I love a team that supports and builds each other up they are all my pookies
This episode was great for building some more of these characters! Adding more and more people to my pookie list hahah
Kageyama: "I was born with this face"
Manga readers: yes, we have the evidence hahahaha 🤣🤣(baby Kageyama)
:( if this is never animated I might cry. -…- crying if it is.. so I’m crying either way….
i ADORE when reactors add clips of irl volleyball games, kinda shows the commitment🤌🏻 like that last time you added a game from the japanese team i almost screamed, im a huge fan of them😭
glad you're enjoying these last episodes, pause as much as you need !!
PS: Congrats on hitting 5k!
Thanks so much! It's crazy to me that we hit 5k. And I'll definitely be adding more clips of irl volleyball to the episodes!
This is one of my favorite episodes, and the one that cemented Suga as my favorite character, glad to see you also enjoyed it. The Kagami-Suga relationship is amazing, especially when they implement other strategies that I won't spoil!
His role as leader was amazing, and I'm really glad I got to learn more about him
6:06 I think I've seen some of international matches did that, especially when they went against Japan. The opponents tend to put taller player to Japan's go-to hitter, Nishida's side, maybe because he's so powerful even though he's short so they might wanted to make sure to stop him by putting higher wall. It's kinda fun to see their blockers switch in the middle of rally.
Hmmmm yes a very good point, they can do their best to "try" and stop him hahah
I like how you can hear the dialogue of the characters better in the background in this video! Love your haikyuu reactions, keep up the good work 😊
I experimented with a bit this episode so I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
Hey mom :) I just love Karasunos parents Dadchi and Sugamom
Suga = MVP 🥰
THE GOAT!
I can’t wait for a 2 episode video coming out that’s gonna be hype
It's gonna be hype city!!
@@lachyywhite man, you’re awesome here replying to every single comment
I love the added clips of real vollyball you add, it's something a lot of reactors don't have acess to so it's like your personal spin
I'm really glad you like them! I'll be adding more in the future now that I'm more organised
Don't worry about pausing. I'd rather you pause and get your thoughts across, than talking over the vid and potentially missing things while not being able to explain thoroughly. Great vid.
Yoooo!!
its been a hot minute since i last heard anyone talk about "who's ball it is" according to sides!
on my team, it used to be whoever's on the left of the ball...meaning, whoever's right shoulder the ball is situated.
in this case, for tanaka and the libero, it would've been the libero's
on my team at least!
Yes you're right! I got a bi discombobulated on the sides hahah
For the ball between Tanaka and Nishynoya it should be nishynoya ball for two reasons. 1. He’s the libero and Tanaka knows he would have a better chance at passing the ball better and 2. Nishinoya has the better angle facing the setter target while Tanaka would have to pass crossing his body.
Yes you're exactly right!
I love this episode. Its full of wonderful character development of Suga and Kageyama.
One other reason why I love this one so much hit me on this watch, the fact that Kageyama and Suga represent the two different kinds of players in sports. Kageyama is the obsessed and talented one who sees nothing but the game itself. Suga is a player who has grown to like the sport but he has another perspective on it as someone who has been forced to learn all the details that a talented player just do by instinct. I think thats why Suga has such a good read of the entire team especially now that he has observed it from the outside.
A bit of a ramble but just wanted to give my 2 cents.
Happy to hear that we will get double episodes for the end of the season. Its such a treat. :)
It was a great episode for character development and I love to see more of suga!
I got to say, when I noticed music taken out I thought I'd dislike it, but hearing all the voices and noises characters make is funny but also informative and nice to hear so thanks for new experience of Haikyuu
I thought I would trial it for this video! Most people seem to like it but please let me know if you really don't!
I *loved* the volleyball clips you included! Its a really great way to underscore your experience in the game, not to mention show how well Haikyuu was written in regards to the sport.
I'm really glad you liked them added! I'm starting to make a folder of them so I can add more
Mr refreshing back at it again with the good plays! Any time Suga gets the spotlight is a W
The part with Sugamom at the end is just lost in translation, he was gonna say "let's win this" but stopped and corrected himself and said "we're gonna win this"
This episode definitely cemented him as one of my favourite characters! And that make so much more sense now thank you for letting me know
for some reason this episode made me excited for season 3 but it's so far away haha
also the small grey haired doll you have is my other favourite character apart from Kuroo!! I was pumped to see you got him! I just know you'll love him when he appears
Mr Refreshing strikes again! 😁
The GOAT strikes again
I really appreciate the editing effort of leaving only the voice. I bet it's a pain to do it but you always go the extra mile to deliver. Thank you for that my good man :salute:
I thought I would test it out! I'm glad you liked it and I hope it made it better to hear
@@lachyywhite it was! Plus I bet the CR claims are more chill due to no music
great to see you continue with haikyuu and keeping up the good observations! the suga-kageyama dynamic always gets to me, because being in competition for the same position yet giving good advice and sharing strengths is just!! so good!!!
and thanks, i did do my best at my physical rehab today 👍 soon volleyball will be around the corner again! and i will be able to play!!! ✊
I’m really glad to hear the physical rehab went well!! It’ll be great to hear you’re back playing soon. And yes suga is a great example of what we should all try to be
So now you can see why I like Suga so much and with the last few episodes why I like Oikawa as well. You also mentioned that Suga could be a captain well it is not said in this season until season 4 but Suga is actually the Vice Captain of the team and no this is not a spoiler So at the beginning there with Suga hitting everyone is just one side of Suga that as of right now rarely comes out. You obviously know of one of Suga's nicknames as Mama Suga or as we like to call him Sugamama but I don't know if you know these two Chaotic Suga or Devil in the Disguise of an Angel. You just got a small glimps of it there at the beginning and did you notice Oikawa's nickname for Suga which was Mr. Refreshing and that is because Oikawa noticed that Suga brings out the best in his teammates by bringing their morale back up. One more thing did you noticed that Suga's last play was all the 3rd years and the play went in order according to the numbers on their jerseys. Daichi digs the ball #1 Suga sets the ball #2 and then Asahi spikes the ball past the blockers for the point #3. Now you see why this is my favourite episode of this season and one of my favorite in the series.
I absolutely loved the character development from this episode and I can definitely understand why you love Suga. I am super eager to see his character build and learn more about him like you mentioned!
I think part of why that one block flew so far back to go out was that Hinata's block technique is sloppy. He got up there, but maybe didn't put strength in his fingers so instead of killing it, he just bounced it right back.
Also, I'm loving the clips being put in to supplement what you're talking about. Your insight is super interesting, so keep it up!
Ahhhh that makes more sense hahahah, and thanks so much! I'm really glad you guys enjoy them! I've got a whole folder now of clips to add in the future hahah
Hello!!! Funny story. I just got selected to play for my uni team on a regional beach volleyball tournament (not the whole uni team, but like... my department? idk how to call it bc I'm from Brazil. My team is just the biology courses) I'm already the setter for out indoor volleyball team, but now they asked me to play beach as well and of course I said yes :)

Best day!!
If you see Japan with Sekita, they often take him out of the block and have MB take his spot
or France with Toniuti, its common when you have short setters where MB comes in to block for them

suga’s such a smart guy, using all his time on the sidelines to observe and adapt to karasuno and their opponents - he’s always been one of my favorite characters!
he is absolutely one of my favorite's now
Sugar never fails to make me emotional, he’s such a good teammate 😭❤ btw, congrats on 5k subs!!!!!! 🎉
Thank you so much! And he easily one of my favourites now!
I've got a sticker of Ennoshita (#6, the guy speaking to kagz and hinata) on my wall haha
Suga is so great in this episode. It really shows what game awareness he has when he doesnt have the pressure all on him. I don't think he could be so level headed if he didn't know Kagayama was there to rely on as well. I can't believe you are almost finished with season 1!!!
Suga coming through as the absolute goat
Congrats on 5k!!! 🎉
Thank you so much! It's so crazy and I'm super grateful ❤

OMG you have Oikawa as your profile pic at Twitch!?! LOL Best moment this week.
Hahahah yes I lost the challenge for the week.....
13:55 I think that it wasn’t the case of the hitter waking it really hard but more like hinata isn’t a good blocker so didn’t do the reach over thing
Ahhhh okay that does make sense!
27:53 lol I feel you 😂
Not really a spoiler in my opinion, but when You talked about receiving, that beach volleyball made Your receiving stronger.
Later on, in season 2 there will be a team that also does a lot 2v2 practices and they mentioned that is how they developped their play style 😅
Hype First!
Hypeeee centrtallll
I actually once got 25 points in a PE class :D - I can jump serve though my control is all over the place and there was nobody with any skill at recieving on the other side so I just kept getting points. Teacher had to ban me from jump serving so we would get an actual game :D
About the block that went out - I think its more of Hinata having really odd angle on his palms that had it somewhat arcing which caused that, he didnt deflect (Well he did but to their side) or stuff it
I agree - Iwa and Oikawa are the most funny duo in the show, I love them :D
Well that leadership is why Suga is the Vice-captain. He isnt as stern as Daichi tho so it suits him better as he doesnt have to yell at them to act normal all the time :D
I am certain someone already brought this up but when Suga corrects himself, the first way to say it was taking himself out of the game "You guys go win this" sort of thing. While the second is "Lets win together". Its about the mindset and knowing he is a factor in that victory.
I really like the small tidbits of your play - they were absolutely sick!
Bro absolutely shredded them on the jump serves hahah. And yes that makes so much more sense now that he changed it to "lets win together"
Has anybody mentioned the 3rd year's jerseys being the order that they touch the ball???? Because that last play gets me every time 😅
It was such a nice detail to add and have them all working together for Suga
5k just before the end of season 1. Let's go!

ur quite biased there 🥲 bc kitagawa daiichi wasn't a horrible team, kageyama didn't know how to communicate so his teammates didn't understand what he tryna do, along with his bad-tempered commands, eventually it led to losing trust. also the coach was unhelpful 😶
