Considering that quakes aren’t common on the East Coast, of course we’re gonna be shocked that it happened.
Exactly. It’s like people in Georgia getting snow.
Every 65 years the east coast has a magnitude of greater than 6+. So we are due for a significant event. The question now, is our infrastructure in great metropolitan areas capable of withstanding large magnitude!
Can definitely agree with this person's remarks. I couldn't believe it myself either because its very rare for NJ to get earthquakes, let alone strong enough for the other states to feel it as well. I lived in NJ for over 20 years so this is very surprising for me to hear about an earthquake in NJ.

Taiwan did an impressive job in that 7.4 earthquake. Yes, there is damage and I think there are still some people missing or waiting rescue, but imagine the chaos if a 7.4 earthquake hit outside of NYC.
I am sure that was a shock.
I am native and life long Californian resident.
Earthquakes are just a season here, along with fire, flood and drought.
I will take that to the real seasons any day!

And it was strong. It only lasted a few seconds, but the strength it was, if it lasted a minute, it would’ve destroyed a lot of buildings.

From my friend who lives in Bloomfield, New Jersey, on the third floor of an apartment building: “Yes I was in the kitchen standing at 10:23 am and I'm saying what the h... Is this. My glasses were rattling and it felt like someone was trying to bulldoze the building. It was crazy and scary at the moment! It started at Whitehouse which Morristown must have felt it stronger. Thanks for asking.”
My building was shaking and everything was going through my mind,I thought maybe an engineering problems,helicopters,even thought maybe the building was getting ready to come down i was even seeing the towers when they went down in my minds eye. 😮
My building is in jersey across the Hudson River from Manhattan.

You do understand it’s not common in this area of the country right? No one is trying to have a competition on who “felt it” more… it’s irrelevant. It was an event that is not common for our area thus, causing the news to report on it.
Nobody is trying to have a peeing competition with California’s quakes. Keep them. We’re just fine without the ground moving regularly.
@@dbloftspoconomnts2118 I completely know and understand. I'm cracking up over the people they are interviewing, not downplaying an earthquake the east coast wasn't expecting. Hopefully the aftershocks will be small and unnoticeable for you.

That size is nothing here in California back in the Imperial Valley area on Easter Sunday 2020. we had a 7.3 earthquake. My house looked like someone broke into it and trashed it

Don't make that comparison. For those who live in those states affected by the earthquake, we don't have the heavier structures like California has so this feeling can feel strong to us for the first time experience. We've never had earthquakes in NJ at all, let alone in that area of the US.

I live in Newark. Like other people have reported, I thought it was just a big truck driving by, but really big this time. I also became a bit disoriented.
This scared me !! First time I woke up without an alarm in longest time !

Didn’t even notice it down in Atlantic City.
It was located on the northeast part of NJ so it was probably not as noticeable, but that area I mentioned was noticeable to the point that other states felt it as well.
Last one was in the 2000s I stayed sitting down at my desk at work and watched my supervisor and all employees on the floor run out like bats from hell !

I was in bed playing hogwarts legacy and I thought it was just the wind that shook my bed and my brother came out and ask if I felt that earthquake and now that I think about it I felt my whole room shake when it happened and I didn’t know that it was an earthquake I’m just thankful it wasn’t bigger because I hear that in other parts of the world that the earthquakes there are worse.

'Unusual and unexpected' things happening is called life. The sad thing is people in America are more reactive and shaken to this than to a mass shooting incident. To me, earth's shifting plates is to be expected no matter where you are, but a person randomly opening fire with a weapon of war in a school or a mall is strange.
