My husband’s office is in the west end (ooooh I spent many a night crawling out of Vodka Wodka in Ashton Lane!) and to answer your question about house prices… our house is a 40min drive from Glasgow and it’s a 3 bed, 2 bathroom, 2 lounges, and a separate office space and utility room detached house and he paid £200k for it in 2006. Meanwhile his boss, at the same time, paid in the region of 300k for an upper 1 bed, 1 bathroom apartment in the west end. 😬😬😬😬

Fantastic video, you went to my favourite little street in the west end. Have to agree, Glasgow is more ‘real’ than Edinburgh and often gets overlooked. It too has some amazing architecture and great people. Thanks for sharing

@@williammcginney4777 Yep! I grew up in the West Lothian region, in a farming community in a tiny village called Salsburgh. I moved to Glasgow about 20 years ago but u canny take the country out of a girl! Lol.
I was born in Glasgow, 1948, behind the Royal Infirmary in a large Slum Tenement triangle of Alexandra Parade, Wishart St and James Orr St, most of which was pulled down decades ago for the extension of the Royal Infirmary and the only green grass I ever knew was the grass in the Cemetery you visited that's part of the Glasgow Cathedral and to this day when I smell that freshly cut grass smell it gives me flashbacks of when we used stand up on the Tombstones and fall into the large piles of fresh cut grass... I left there in 1966, never lived there again.
Hi guys, I'm a Glaswegian from the posh West End and Hillhead Book Club was a cinema for many years. You can still see where the screen was and the balconies. Glad you enjoy my city.
The Salon Cinema...was one of my favourites. It was the oldest still operating cinema in Glasgow before its demise in the 1990's - which was achieved in some highly suspicious circumstances. Campaign was ongoing to restore and maintain it as Glasgow's oldest operating cinema, but on turning up for work one day in 1992 staff found themselves locked out with no warning or notice. The cinema seating was ripped out one night (so it could not be used again as a cinema). It lay derelict for several years until converted into a restaurant, against strong public opinion. The loss of the beautiful, historic early cinema features is greatly mourned.
@@lorrainehamilton5051 sadly I believe just about every transaction in Glasgow is dodgy. George Square is a den of iniquity imo, no matter who's in charge. The River Clyde is formed by the meeting of two streams, Daer Water and the Potrail Water, in the Lowther Hills in South Lanarkshire. From this point, it flows northeast before turning west. As it flows into the southeast of Glasgow, the Clyde begins to widen, and becomes tidal. The river Clyde is about 100 miles long before it hits the open ocean past the Clyde estuary

As a Glaswegian I thank you for filming the City I love and, you are correct, as people from the city are Glaswegians and “Weegie” is a term of endearment😀what always amazes me is the number of people in the City who have never seen some of the places you highlight such as the Glasgow Necropolis or The Cathedral. Also you will find some of the finest architecture in Europe within the City such as the City Chambers which has been used for a few Holywood movies with the Cathedral and Necropolis used for filming Batman and Batgirl and the recent Indiana Jones movie was filmed in the City Centre. I was glad you both enjoyed your time in Glasgow and hope that it won’t be too long before you return😀

West end is ridiculously expensive. I would recommend Shawlands, its got some great little bars and cafe's and good train links to the city and taxis are cheap as well. Thank you for a lovely video, welcome back! Glaswegian is totally correct! Walking tours of the Necropolis are a great way to hear the stories, see the graves of some very famous people and not so famous buried there, it also sits beside Glasgow Royal Infirmary (hospital) which has a famous history itself including surgeon Joseph Lister’s development and introduction of antiseptic practices in the 1860’s which saved many a life. Great wee hour or two can be spent covering the cathedral, necropolis and other landmarks in that square mile. Another way is the local double decker city tour bus, ideal if your not a great walker, there is also one that serves afternoon tea along the way 😁. Glasgow has such history and an abundance of great places to visit in close proximity to each other for all ages, come and visit us you’ll be given a great welcome. 🥰
Fortunate as an American to work in Glasgow for four months. Great city. Spot on comment in video about difference between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Stayed almost next door to the Scotia bar. Hello from Scotland 🏴. Glad you enjoyed exploring Glasgow. My granny used to have what you would call an apartment just off Great Western Rd which is in the West End. Sadly it was demolished in the 70s so the M8 (the main motorway in and out of Glasgow) could be built. Haste ye back
WooHoo, I'm so excited to see you in Scotland! My maternal family name is Crawford. The surname came from the place name of Crawford in the upper ward of Clydesdale in Lanarkshire. Tradition has it that a Sir George Crawford saved King David I from a wild stag in the park of Holyrood Abbey in 1127. ❤Have a fabulous, happy, healthy adventure. Oh how I love and appreciate your video's, one of my favourite UA-cam channels! Much love Anna and Trevor. xo xo

Hey guys love the video, what surprised me the most was how similar Ashton lane looked just like a street in Pico Azores. I checked your videos playlists looks like you haven't been to any of the Azores islands. Give them try! 😁 Hope to meet you guys in DR come November 💕
Go across the river to Ibrox/Cessnock/Kinning Park if you want to rent a place at a decent price but still be close to the city centre and the west end next time you visit. Just be aware that on match days it will get busy.
Great video, guys. It has made me a little homesick living up north now. Try Aberdeen one time if you haven't already! Not that I look for it, but I haven't seen anywhere (other than Edinburgh - for the tourists) selling a deep-fried Mars bar! As a Glasweigan, it's definitely a cringe point for us (sorry).
Just pick up the pie & eat it. Lots of memories of having a pie covered in sauce after rugby training. As well as the meat it’s spiced with mace, nutmeg, and white pepper.
You won't be surprised to know that the Necropolis behind the cathedral was used in the movie The Batman made just before the pandemic with Glasgow doubling for Gotham City. Worth seeing the James McAvoy interview with Stephen Colbert on UA-cam marked James McAvoy is Scottish in his personal life for more on the term "Glaswegian" The deep fried mars bar is a bit of a cliche but it's a talking point. Good video guys.
@@DelightfulTravellers See also the current Indiana Jones film..Glasgow doubles for New York 1969 and is also featured doubling for Gotham City and Central City in the Flash movie. See it also in World War Z with Brad Pitt as Philadelphia and Moscow in the recent Tetris movie. Really growing now as a movie location. 👍🏴🎬🎥
Loved this video! Glasgow is very underrated, especially by youtubers who prefer to visit Edinburgh cos it's prettier. You are so right about the river Clyde being underused in Glasgow, I wish it was used more. The last time I was in the Scotia I sat exactly where Trevor did! I am not a fan of Tennants though! Next time you're in Glasgow I would recommend visiting the West Brewery at Glasgow Green. The West End is increasingly expensive to stay in, both for locals and tourists, so you might be better finding a place outside of the city and getting the bus or train in.
West Brewery is outstanding. Tasty food and great brews. Went there a few times while working in Glasgow. As an American I found their toilet set up a bit amusing. Glasgow Green is amazing.
Deep Fried mars bars are Scottish? Nice of them to spread that tradition to any number of Midwestern state fairs....come to the Minnesota State fair next year and try all sorts of wonderful deepfried treats!
Hi and thanks for visiting our city, in glad you seemed to enjoy yourself. It's interesting that you're from Nova Scotia and in sure you know that it got it's name due to the amount of Scots that went there for a better life. There are Still many Scottish ex pats in Canada, especially Nova Scotia. I'm sure somewhere within your ancestry, you got a bit of Scots in you.. I know it must be hard for you guys to cover everywhere in the places you travel to, you've missed so much in Glasgow still, so hopefully we'll see you guys again, don't wait 8 years though lol 🏴
I'm a Glaswegian expat but I think that those amazing bars they were in are actually old bank buildings They had loads of dosh so the buildings were tremendous. It's good that they're being used for fun .
Did you find any surprise similarities between Nova Scotia and Scotland? That pie looked great! I think mutton is sheep that is over a year old, if you eat them younger, they taste better!
The West end of Glasgow is indeed the most prosperous part of the city with house and rent prices much higher than other areas. Incidentally western areas of many UK cities are the same with the theory being they suffered less from the smog and pollution associated with 19th Century industrial towns as for most of the time the prevailing winds come from the West.
Edinburgh is definitely more pretty, but I think Glasgow wins out. As you say, it’s less touristy, but has so much of interest, and most of the museums have free entry! There are some brilliant cafes too. Try out some of the ice cream parlours, founded by Italian immigrants.
Aye, and we have the Old Queen sitting in Long Beach. She was a sorry sight three years ago through pure neglect. Happy so say she is getting a face lift, I stayed in that thing three years ago and yes it is haunted. My daughter and I had a scary experience on one of the elevators. It would not go to the floor we wanted it to go, we ended up in the bowel s of the ship and when the door opened a man was standing there demanding to know why we were there, the scariest person I have ever seen in my life. That elevator had a mind of it's own, we went up and and down four times complete with suitcases before it finally stopped at the floor we were supposed to be on. Never went on that thing again,
A Billy Connolly said “you’ll have more fun at a Glasgow funeral than an Edinburgh wedding”. It’s an amazing city and you’ve not lived until you’ve had a night out in Glasgow (you’ll probably feel like you’ve died the day after!). Get a pizza crunch down you. Deep fried pizza, but not like in Naples, this time it’s battered. Amazing place with friendly and funny folk…. The opposite to Edinburgh which has a real chip on its shoulder, especially against us English.
I live in the westend and you will probably find a place for 1 bedroom for about £700-£800 a month, 2 bedroom, you can expect to be looking around 800-1500 a month. of course tendhis is in the nicer part of the westend, you might find slightly cheaper outside the popular westend areas

Are you sure it wasn’t the oran mor? It’s just up the road from the hillhead book club.
Welcome back to Scotland hope both had a ball in your time here 👍
Ashton lane has one of the coolest record ahops ever. Or at least it ised to... Hope its still there ❤
Hello from Scotland 🏴. Glad you enjoyed exploring Glasgow. My granny used to have what you would call an apartment just off Great Western Rd which is in the West End. Sadly it was demolished in the 70s so the M8 (the main motorway in and out of Glasgow) could be built. Haste ye back
SCOTLAND FOREVERRRRR !!!!!
Good morning All happy Sunday morning and I loved your vlogs and you all amazing Supporter
Hi Edward! Have a great weekend and thanks for being a member 🤙- Trevor
@DelightfulTravellers your welcome sending you hugs for all of you 🤗
Come back to Liverpool to check out the cathedral(s) here, if you didnt manage it on your day visit. It's fab!
Noted for next time! 😀 - Trevor
That walkway bridge you went under was in the film Trainspotting
Love this video, im not glaswegian for another few years but i love this city too
🤗
I enjoy old cemeteries too. If you read the old headstones you can learn quite a bit of social history.
Much love Anna and Trevor. xo xo
Thanks so much .. we appreciate the kind words - Anna
The Bagpipes school is in Glasgow
The Clyde side isn’t utilised properly, not the same way as maybe the Thames in London is
Where you were eating your pie ( always mutton) is a disused railway, supposedly just left station and all.
the cathedral was also used in the tv show Outlander from a local Scottish lass. I stay 15 minutes from Glasgow and an hour away from Scotlands capital city Edinburgh. I’m a Scot born and bred.. I hope you enjoy your vacation and haste ye back. Alba Gu Braith 🏴😘
Hey guys love the video, what surprised me the most was how similar Ashton lane looked just like a street in Pico Azores. I checked your videos playlists looks like you haven't been to any of the Azores islands. Give them try! 😁 Hope to meet you guys in DR come November 💕
We’d luv to make it to the Azores at some point. It’s high on our list 🤗 - Anna
SO GREAT TY !!!
🤙
Guys. The building, which houses the Book Club, was originally a cinema. Went there as a child. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit.
Oh so cool! Thanks for letting us know that. What a great building! - Trevor
I remember it well, it was called The Salon.
Yep saw Grease in the Salon 👍
I saw my first ever cinema film there, Disney’s The Black Cauldron in 1985. Don’t think the cinema survived much past that.
@@johnmcdonald7339 That makes me feel old!
Across the road from Ashton Lane are the quirky shops in Ruthven Lane . A bad miss if you don't visit both .
I LOVE GLASGOW ... Thanks Guys, loved this x ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Where you were standing eating the scotch pie was the place where everyone went to, to get hanged that’s why it’s called the gallowgate.
If you ever return to Glasgow, you or anyone watching should try the doughnuts at ‘tantrum doughnuts’ in the city centre (near the train station).
Thanks for the tips! - Trevor
i used to o to the book club when it was the salon cinema
Just pick up the pie & eat it. Lots of memories of having a pie covered in sauce after rugby training. As well as the meat it’s spiced with mace, nutmeg, and white pepper.
I'm a Glaswegian, well done on this great video of our great city!
Glesga keelie used to be the term. Weegie used by citizens of Edinburgh, or 'Embra' as keelies would say.
Such a cool fact! We didn't know that - Trevor
Necropolis and Royal Infirmary was in "The Batman" and George Square was most recently in "The Flash" opening scene with Ben's Batman.
I'm glad l ate a cookie before your deep fried candy bar!
😅
Deep Fried mars bars are Scottish? Nice of them to spread that tradition to any number of Midwestern state fairs....come to the Minnesota State fair next year and try all sorts of wonderful deepfried treats!
Mmmm sounds like a delicious fair 🤤- Trevor
I'm a Glaswegian expat but I think that those amazing bars they were in are actually old bank buildings
They had loads of dosh so the buildings were tremendous. It's good that they're being used for fun .
Great video, we are heading there in April. 🤙
Hope you enjoy it!
Tennent's lager is brewed a stone's throw away from the Necropolis, as is Drygate!
Thank you for promoting my city in such great light. I love Glasgow best place on the planet. People make Glasgow. :) r
Did you find any surprise similarities between Nova Scotia and Scotland? That pie looked great! I think mutton is sheep that is over a year old, if you eat them younger, they taste better!
Glasgow Cathedral is where is had my University Graduation Ceremony 20 years ago 😮
Did you get a new camera ? Your video is so clear.
I find Cemetaries fascinating!!
Same!
We went to so many great cafes. The food is also top notch all around. We don't want to leave 😀- Trevor
You should have taken a trip to Parkhead and seen Glasgow Celtic football park ☘️☘️
Why on earth would anyone want to go parkhead it’s a dump😂😂😂
Peado park stay clear.
My home city! Glasgow Necropolis is in The Batman. I think it was towards the end of the movie
We also have deep fried ice cream and Colin the caterpillar cake!!!!
So nice!!
🤗
The clyde once built a quarter of the worlds ships.
Never went on that thing again,
13:35 you are in my neighbourhood, I pay £680 a month to live in that exact location, that includes council tax.
I guess I got lucky.
The book club used to be a wee cinema 😊
showing much more respect for Glasgow city centre than most of the local neds and Rangers and Celtic apes.
I have 2 loves in my life 01 my wife 2nd Glasgow Scotland ❤
