I’d just like to say, thank you. Thank you to the person who captured this. Thank you to Phish for all the great times and beautiful memories. Thank you to Billy mother Fucking Strings for taking this torch that has been passed to you and putting your amazing and loving stamp on it. We are all so lucky. To all watching this, I love you all. Be well.
Ain’t no torch. Stop saying that. For fucks sake. Passing the torch implies the torch passer is done. Phish isn’t done. Phish is playing better and better. Not a single sign of slowdown. This is them playing incredible music with another incredible artist. Your comment is written likes eulogy. Phish has another ten or twenty years in them. Fucking hell.
Ths is awesome. I love hearing Billy playing within a jam band context, which is so much different than his typical bluegrass style. It shows how musically competent and absolutely well rounded he is as a guitarist. Honestly he totally slays it. His leads are on POINT and his ability to improv is just stellar. I love how many ways he has taken over the guitar scene at the moment. He is helping to revive a lot of styles that my generation and generations since have begun to fall away from. Just awesome.
I’m always amazed when Trey plays with other guitarists how unique his phrasing is. It’s easy to take for granted when listening to hours of phish which I do on a weekly basis. This is amazing to see Billy on stage in the free flow improv bc he’s a badass in his own right but Trey is very unique in his style, phrasing, sound and composition. It shows in times like these. And to have some his junior so good on stage with him makes him play like he did twenty years ago. Such a great moment and thank you for filming this truly.
Treys chops really do show more of their shine, when he's with a guest. His phrasing is so much more gentle, thoughtful and especially playful. I've spent 10 years doing my darndest to develop as soft of a touch as he displays, on pre bent notes. I swear when he plays them they sound so organic and beautiful and it's just something I haven't been able to figure out and emulate exactly haha. He's just so fucking good at all these neat little subtleties that you wouldn't think of or notice unless trying to emulate, or when you hear him playing next to another player.
@@MDrey-x2p I am not an expert on Phish, nor am I a guitar player myself, but have always appreciated Trey's guitar playing. I grew up with the Allman Brothers and Grateful Dead, as did a lot of Phish fans I suppose. Here is a link to an Allman Brothers show from their 40th anniversary run at the Beacon Theater in which Trey and Page McConnell sat in. ua-cam.com/video/IY_yDQq3q0Q/v-deo.html (1:23:53) I think Trey's solo here, in the classic "I Know You Rider," captures the gentle and thoughtful phrasing you refer to. The solo is so subtle and soulful and his guitar tone perfect.
Holy shit he's gotten better though. When he sat in with Billy and The Kids a couple years ago he hadn't completely figured out how to do his thing on the electric. He's got it now.
@@keithfridel1492 Thats a big statement bc of well you know..Phish. I feel the same way. At first I was like wow this boy has no manners ! but then I saw how Daddy Trey was. Billy lit a lil fire under him and in us all.
There must have been a palpable, physical even, energy around that much star power in one spot. What a treat! edit: around the 12:20 mark, watching Trey and BIlly try to match their moves. They were def sharing in the weakapaug groove.
The raw humility is what's so great, it's like 2 kids in a candy shop, smiles all around. So awesome. Billy is a Saint from plywood walls to SOLD OUT HALLS
Billy is all about the music. He plays with everybody, everywhere, and just kicks so much ass. Jammed two nights in his home state with one one of his favorite bands ever. His touring band spits fn fire. New album out soon. Baby on the way. Dude has the world by the short and curlies
He still is! He may not be machine gun Trey like in the 90s, but he is still one of the most tasteful and soulful guitarists around. He’s so good at creating space and making the simple licks so beautiful.
But seriously... good job capturing this. I know from experience that it's really hard to resist the urge to dance or let loose, which jostles the camera. I also hate potentially negatively impacting other people's experiences around me, as well as sacrificing my own ability to be in the moment. Sometimes, however, the moment is too significant not to capture, such as this. Epic stuff! Musically, this is beyond words. Two legends spanning a generation. Can we make this a regular occurrence, please?
I always figured that if/when Billy got up with Phish, that he would be playing a tele. At least thats what i fantasized about lol, only one time has a tele been on stage with trey and it was at Bonarroo when Springsteen came up and they played Mustang Sally. Of which, as far as i am aware, there is no high quality recording
An iPhone Pro-Max 11. 😮 I was able to move up at setbreak and just happened to pull a good video. Lots of my videos frankly suck! I love that these videos from the Billy sit in are being enjoyed!!!
It's pretty amazing when you pair together great musicians, and more then anything it's a beautiful gesture ... but I have to say musically speaking I'm not always loving when Phish hosts guests. Trey is such a great player in his own right and fills the space. Same goes for Billy String, Derek Trucks, etc ... and having them play together is like a movie with too many good actors. The soundspace in my opinion just gets cluttered and the quality of the improv, muddied. It's totally unnecessary. Phish is perfect without any accompaniment. But yes ... every now and then its dope to see stuff like this. I'm sure live it's a lot of fun.

He IS Jam Band just a different genre!
The energy in that place when Billy came out was bananas. Definitely one of the shows I wish I could go back and do all over again.

Gonna see Billy at the forum in LA on the 23 super exited

Every video same comment......bot?😂
Guitar harmonies are giving Allman brothers
ABB, but unrehearsed!
Heard that too! And some Jerry.
Legendary. The moment and the cameraman
Thank you to the cameraman!
A very serious thanks to the saint who caught this and posted!! Grateful 🙏
Best show in a long time for me
You can hear the Duane Allman / Dickie Betts riffs thru the whole jam. Love it
I thought the same
agreed
So glad u said that --absolutely
Not as much the kicks as the tone of the PRS.
Billy is always teasing something

Billy to join permanently! ❤
@@betrue311he’s good on his own thing, go look
I think that we have a lot of Trey and Billy in store for us in the years to come. Possibly a Trey & Billy Band of sorts as a side thing.
Handing Billy Strings an electric guitar should be against the law. He may just blow up planet Earth.

Hadn’t even found his voice on it yet ….. can’t wait to see where he takes it
he's just average on electric imo. Should stick with acoustic.

Maybe ask Tool that or Trey. He’s definitely got room for

You have done a great service sir Curty. Smiles and Awe all around this guy. Great moment captured.
cameraman has giant balls to encapture a massive movement. thank you giant balls cameraman.
Allman Brothers Band vibes big time
This is Allman level guitar conversation. Like, mountain jam with Duane kind of stuff.
Oh. My. GOD. That’s some next level guitar playing right there. Those 2 are kindred spirits.
beautiful moments, billy really injected some fresh energy into this jam. Best sit-in ever?
