  • UPDATED: Solo Podcast Ideas, How to Script or Outline Episodes
    I get asked all the time, "Is it better to script out exactly what I'm going to say or just have a general outline I want to cover on my podcast?" So in today's video, I wanted to share with you why you'd use both.
    At this point, I've published more than 400+ podcast episodes and I can tell you that I haven't recorded every single one the same way. Sometimes I strategically plan them out in a notebook. Others I use a trusty Google Doc. Some I've scratched out on a piece of paper moments before hitting record.
    So I wanted to share with you today the different experiences I've had and how you can decide which method will work best for your podcast.

      I'm just getting started on my podcast and working the bugs out of it for next month, Krystal. I'm so stoked that I found your awesome channel talking about these awesome topics. Much love to you from the Gore family in North Carolina. -MG

    "I could go for 45 minutes before I actually got to the topic..." (sorry if my quote wasn't precise) I'm guilty as charged and that's even when I use an outline! 😳 But, that's why I'm here!👍

    Forgot to mention, because I'm dyslexic, reading a script causes anxiety for me, so to practice I read bedtime stories to my children and nonfiction books aloud to my wife.

      Reading in different inflections and ones can definitely help with your podcast range!

    Thanks. Just getting started with a podcast. Not a good writer, so struggling to work on that part.

      Thanks for sharing, M Schumacher. I've found it easier - when I get stuck writing - to use a voice typing device that'll help me transcribe my thoughts. I've used the FREE "Voice Typing" feature in Google Docs as well as Otter.AI right on my phone. It helps to get the thoughts out of my head and then be able to use those thoughts as the "first draft" of my episode. Hope that helps! 😉

    Just getting started....for the second time! Looking for a different approach from my original attempt. I am a MC/DJ with some radio experience in SocCal and I am comfortable in front of a mic...but Podcasting is a different beast altogether. I also jump into things very headstrong with a lot of passion. But limited knowledge.

    • @KrystalProffitt

      Very cool that you’re a DJ, Devereaux! And honestly, being comfortable behind the mic gives you a HUGE advantage. You can learn all the tactical things here! 😉

    I'm still in the planning phase. A little gunshy about the organization of the content because I'm a tangent type of person, but I know I am not a read stuff word for word type of guy

    • @KrystalProffitt
      @KrystalProffitt  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, it definitely depends on the comfort level of the topic and the experience behind the mic. Sometimes a script works great -- when I want to get it JUST right, but most of the time a detailed outline is my preference.

    Hi Krystal, first of all this was terrific video, thanks for that. And I’ve started my podcast but I’ve just posted the trailer till now and I’m expecting to post the first episode somewhere around the second week of december. It’s a true crime solo podcast, and I was having problems remembering all the names, dates and facts, so is there any remedy you could suggest?

    • @KrystalProffitt
      @KrystalProffitt  2 роки тому

      That's exciting to be putting out your solo show! Is there any reason why you wouldn't be able to have your notes in front of you instead of having to remember stats, dates, names, etc?

    • @arnavchoudhary7674
      @arnavchoudhary7674 2 роки тому

      I’ve tried the thing with bullet points and sticky notes but still I’m stuttering and there’s a lot of “umm…aa..” sounds in between sentences and words. So I’m now opting for a complete script and I’ll read that out, please recommend me how can I not sound robotic on the mic. This is my problem. Thankyou✨
