  • In this video, I review and compare two home theater projectors. Vankyo Leisure 510 (Amazon budget projector), and Epson Home Cinema 2100. I have used the Vankyo daily for 2 years, and just purchased the Epson.
    ** The GooDee YG600 is the exact same projector as the Vankyo Leisure 510 - Same projector branded by different companies.

    Nice to see comparison reviews. But one rule must be learned and used. Camera settings must be locked to manual - shutter speed, aperture, exposure, and color temp. It was clear in both side-by examples that settings were not the same. But there is no doubt that Epson will always provide excellent results. If anyone is searching for a portable small projector with 1280x800 native res & built-in battery, then I suggest the $360 AAXA P6X. It is awe-inspiring. I've had 400+ projectors from analog to digital in still and motion. It is the new presentation king for '5-'15 diag projections in mid-level light situations. For permanent home installations then the Epson 2100 or similar is more appropriate.

    Yes, Vankyo is good for casual movies/tv watching. Two years ago I purchased a Perfromance V600 for occassional outdoor use on our patio, and the focus issue near the edges was immediately obvious with Kodi.

    After searching for a true comparison for hours I found you the only person doing a review that matters. In dark rooms all projectors shine what matters it how it stacks up to competitors when the room is bright, so, a side-by-side comparison is the obvious thing to do. Thank you!

    I've had the Vankyo V600 for 2 years now and I use it daily with no issues (besides small text on corners). I'm thinking about getting the Vankyo V630W for the upgrades. I would go with that Epson if I could find it for $400 but I'm seeing $650 everywhere and that is too much money. For another $100 I could get a 70" 4k. Seeing this was posted in Dec you most likely bought it on xmas sale. Great video though

      I did consider getting the best Vankyo available and looked into the V600. Good to hear that the V600 is holding up well for you.
      Very likely the Epson could’ve been a holiday season price at $400; it certainly was that time of year. I did not shop for it over a period of time to see the price fluctuate. I just saw it and bought it, assuming that was the regular price. I guess I got lucky and saw it on the right day!

    Just for those who don't know this is a bulb projector. And when it comes to Epson projectors they are very cheap and easy to replace when it comes to the bulb. With this specific projector it lasts about 5,000 hours on regular mode and 7500 hours on eco mode. To put that into context on one bulb last 2 years for 40 hours a week. The other wonderful thing about these projectors is that color and white brightness are equal and can actually make it brighter then other projectors with the same amount of lumens. If you want to get a "Budget" projector Epson is the way to go. Especially if you like gaming usually their input lag is 28 MS. If you're trying to be cheap another good recommendation would be the Epson 880 I saw it on eBay new for $399 currently. That is all and good luck. Also for the maker of this video the ohm Walsh 2000's would be a wonderful addition to your home theater. Having it being semi omnidirectional makes it wonderful for having multiple people watching stuff together on the projector. Z reviews and Steve Guttenberg did a great review on it.

    Epson's are great till the bulb goes out. I have a brick collecting dust because I replaced the filter and the bulb and it still gives me the red light of death.
    I 've been using budget projectors as my main tv for 2 years now. Ambient light is not a problem because even when I did have a tv I never watched it with the lights on.

    • @HowtoandReviewsOfficial
      @HowtoandReviewsOfficial  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the input! That is a great point. The budget projector does do the job; I enjoyed it well enough for two years. In my experience, I was figuring about $200 a year to run the budget projector, because my first one died after a year. So, if the Epson lasts three years, I break even. But in my opinion, I have the additional value of a nicer crisper picture, which is hard to attach a dollar value to. The blurry edges and corners always bothered me with the budget projector.
      But, the budget projector could definitely be a great option. It makes sense in a lot of ways. I personally wanted to give the Epson a try. Hopefully it lasts a few years!

    I've had a Xenon bulb equipped projector ( Acer, forgot the type) many years ago,it worked great....for two years until the Bulb reached 3000 hours, it was still working but the light output was wY dimmer than new, also the power consumption was around 260 watts running,and in summer it heated up my small room , fast forward 10 years, I'm m running a LG Ph550 Led dlp projector, the size of a pocketbook, its light output is waY BRICHTER than that clunky old Bulb projector,image is razor sharp and vivid, been running this ( cool) as a Tv Replacement every day know for almost four years,has build in Bluetooth for audio, and a very LOW POWER CONSUMPTION OF 45 WATTS even on its high brichtness setting( it even Hass a build in battery so you can run it everwhere, so I would suggest to compare your Epson against one of these,you'll be amazed....

    Epson is the $3000 and under champ when i comes to projectors. I have 3 of the flagship UB projectors. JVC is the $3000 and above champ. It's like night and day comparing a $700 projector to a $2500 projector...much less than a toy projector that goes for $250 and under. The flagship JVC goes for a cool $10,000. i had a different brand of projector that also stopped working after a year, and it seems like quite a few people have the same problem with different brands of cheap projectors. i think they are designed to fail within a year or so

    • @HowtoandReviewsOfficial
      @HowtoandReviewsOfficial  3 роки тому +2

      I would not be surprised. They probably use cheap components to build the cheap projector, without longevity in mind. It just needs to work long enough to sell it. It only takes one component to fail and you have yourself a brick.

    Thanks for the video. I narrowed my search down to several Epsons, around the $500 range and this one is probably the winner. Question, how are you running your surround sound? Bluetooth or wired in? Thank you.

    • @HowtoandReviewsOfficial
      @HowtoandReviewsOfficial  3 роки тому +2

      The projector is still working great and has a great picture. I have zero regrets.
      I am running wired speakers for the surroundsound. I have an old Kenwood VR-605 receiver that still works perfect.
      If you are buying new, and going wired, definitely get a receiver with HDMI inputs and output in the back. It will make it way easier to run sources directly in, and video directly out to the projector. I do not have HDMI in my receiver, so I need to run optical from my PS4 to the receiver and pretty much permanently have my PS4 connected to the projector.
      If I connect something else to the projector, like a laptop, no surround sound; cannot run laptop through receiver.
      Definitely use a modern receiver with hdmi

      @@HowtoandReviewsOfficial thank you for the heads up. I was looking at running a 3.5mm to RCA directly to a soundbar with bluetooth to other speakers because I'm personally not too worried about having surround sound. I'm going to first try a bluetooth transmitter from the audio out on the projector. I've heard mixed reviews. As long as theres no lag, I think it might be a winner.

    Can u please help in explaining How u connected with the surround sound (receiver)

    • @HowtoandReviewsOfficial
      @HowtoandReviewsOfficial  3 роки тому

      No problem.
      A few options:
      1.
      Using an AV receiver with HDMA inputs and outputs. It is NOT playing the sound from the projector, it is playing the sound from the device that is connected to the projector.
      Connect your device (PlayStation, Laptop, etc.) to the receiver HDMI input. This is the sound that the receiver will play. Then, connect the projector to the receiver HDMI output to send the picture to the projector (it will also send the sound to the projector, but turn the projector volume off since the receiver is being used).
      2.
      Connect the device (PlayStation, laptop, etc.) directly to the projector with HDMI. This will send the picture and sound to the projector. If your device (PlayStation, laptop, etc.) has additional outputs, connect the sound from your device to the receiver. This way, the projector will receive the video from your device (and audio, but turn the volume all the way down), and the receiver will receive the audio for your device.
      3.
      Connect your device directly to the projector with HDMI. This will send the picture and sound to your projector. The projector should have an audio output, which will likely be a 3.5 mm headphone port. Connect this to your receiver input. You could use a hard wire (you may need an adapter for 3.5 mm to RCA, depending on what inputs the receiver has), or a Bluetooth transmitter and receiver.
      4.
      The projector may have Bluetooth audio output. If it does, you can Bluetooth directly to a receiver with Bluetooth capabilities.
      Those are a few options. There are probably a couple other workarounds as well depending on what type of inputs and outputs your receiver and projector has.
      I am currently using option 2. I have an older receiver without HDMI connections. I run my PS4 directly to the projector with HDMI, and run my PS4 audio to my receiver with an optical cable. Works fine, no problems.
