My father, while in the Air Force and serving in Germany, really wanted to buy a Karmann Ghia in 1956. But because he was required to wear his uniform hat when entering the base, he had to get a Beetle convertible instead which was tall enough inside to wear a hat. So, for many years our family had that 56 convertible, painted in an extra-cost green metallic color with a light beige top. I inherited that car as a high school graduation present and I drove it until 1986 as my primary car, but sadly, in the Tacoma area I could not find anyone competent to help maintain the vehicle so I had to sell it. Your car has the same characteristic transmission whine of the early VWs as my Beetle. It was a fun car to drive and own. Miss it a lot. Thanks for the video!
I have a 71, That I just Got Last Saturday…..! I had one when I was about in 19 years old….! I’m 67 now…! Looking forward to Honking 🎺🎺at people while I’m cruising around…..🎵👍🏻🎶
I had a '74 that was my pride and joy. Getting the car as an 18th birthday present AND a graduation gift all at the same time, I couldn't have asked for anything better! Unfortunately, a few days after I took 3rd in a VW show, I was T-Boned in a parking lot and the car was gone. (another reason why elderly people shouldn't be driving!) It's awesome to see these cars on the road and when I do and it certainly brings back memories...even when I'm driving my '74 Super Beetle! lol Enjoy it! -Chris
FECRWY I had a 2011 Mazda rx8 20b for my fourth car, I was doing the speed limit in the right lane of a rural highway, and a fucking 80 year old man completely blew the stop sing he had and broadsided me doing 35-40 while I was doing 50ish. That Mazda saved my life, but it’s gone. We pulled the engine the day before they did a strip down and crushed the body.
They were all stick shifts back then...but at least they had a self-starter ;-) I can't help but think that the K-G influenced the styling of the second generation Corvair coupe
Great Ghia! Looks & Sounds Nice... I Have a '65 that's about to be restored to the max (lol) I also have a '64 with a sun roof top (cali styled) as well as another '64 drop top that I'll get to at some point. The '73 BMW I restored got in the way of all of them :-( But they're next!!!
There was something so familiar about the area you drove through that I just knew it was Ohio. A little geoguessing and I can place it around Centerville, south of Dayton. I just had to know because it felt so much like home (near Cincinnati).
I'm proud of never having owned or driven ANY Karmann Ghia, A "thing" or for that matter a bus! I have owned a 68 type1 a 70 beetle A 71 Super beetle, a rabbit, a golf 3 Jetta's, 2 Passat's and a GTI. My next Volkswagen is an AUDI Wagen.
That's a sweet ride MrAaron! Top quality materials and labor went into building those bodies at Karmann Coachwerk. Most people also don't realize the workmanship that went into producing Ghias rivaled that of more premium brands such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW. You won't find too many Karmann-Ghias just lying around....most have been snatched up and restored because of high demand.
I have a 1959 KG cabrio deluxe with og padded dash all numbers matching with all the panels it was born with I will be restoring it to factory fresh glory next year
Wow! 36hp! That is a beast! ha ha... I would really like to get a ghia but I would definitely go with a bigger aftermarket engine. Keeping the car stock is nice but i think that is just not enough power...
Try my LJ 50 Susuki 4x4 (540cc 2 stroke 3 cylinder engine) Tall, narrow & on heavy solid wheels shod with bar tread tyres (that realy only grip dirt well) This Ghia or even a poorer handling Beetle (or even a Type 2, to a degree & all with the 36 HP motor) would feel like sportscars after a drive of the Suzuki.
The location is where they were when I originally found the car before restoration. I left them where they were to pay respect to the condition I found the car.
I just WISH VW made a MODERNIZED version of these today with electronic automatic w/paddle shifters and NAV screen, etc... I'd buy one the same day it came available!!!!

I've had about a dozen cars in my life, including a Karmann Ghia. That was the only one that I actually teared up when I got rid of it. :(
The Sound of the early engines with 1,2 l/30 PS is particulary good. Howling, singing, barking. Everything available.
Karmann Ghia, the poor man's Porsche! I've had 7 or 8 of them over the years, I only have one now...
Great car! I have 58 convertable bug. People refer to the ghia as a "sheep in wolfs clothing" I have always loved that.
wolf in sheeps clothes
@@dpayne09999 nah other way round - looks fast but isn't

I have a Silver Bug. But Karmann Ghia is my favourite dream.

Hello! We have a candy apple red 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia in Jenks, Oklahoma!
Love the wining of the first gear! Great KG you have :)
Love that camera view its perfect
Beautiful, hope she’s still running strong!
Very nice Karmann Ghia, I've just bought a 1961 model that I'm trying to get on the road.
Gotta love the straight cut gearbox. Smooth ride!
Nice KG video "from the driver's perspective" and I have friends who tell me the same thing. THANKS for posting.
@vlado242 I used a DSLR and clamped it to the edge of the back seat so that it wouldn't move. I'm glad you liked the video.
Awesome !!!! Cant wait to get my 71 yellow coupe running, its mint and an autostic, here in Texas. :)
I like the little subtle differences of the 50's models like the smaller air grilles on the front and the squared off tops on the tailight lenses.
Nice job. Beautiful car.
Very nice car!! Also, nice neighborhood =D
Nicely done! (Color me envious!)
I owned several as a teen and enjoyed rebuilding the engines and trans. Good to see them still out and about.
They were all stick shifts back then...but at least they had a self-starter ;-) I can't help but think that the K-G influenced the styling of the second generation Corvair coupe
Awesome! Love it. I'm from MI too!
Nice car... Runs great.
Most people don't know what it is - many people don't know that Volkswagen sold such a car. So yes, it's a big head turner.
Ha! Your windscreen has the windscreen-wiper scratches like my Ghia :D
Thanks for your reply. Are you running the stock engine in it?
Hope mine will sound that 👍

Awesome video man. How long have you had it?

What kind of video camera are you using and how did you mounted in your car so it doesn't move at all? Great video

Can you make a video showing all the car?
Great i have one to sell.. how much would it be sold for though?
Its so beautiful the Karman Ghia...what is it like to own one, its my dream car.
LOL, @2:25 the other oldie is out going for a cruise!

@vlado242 Yes, it's 100% stock. 36 horsepower!
Top de mais men!!!!
EUA? I dream with Brazil as well. Caprice and organization. Sincerely, a brazilian jealous!

My question is how long is a piece of string?😏
sweet! :)
You don't need a bigger engine, you just need a different transmission like a freeway flyer
I want one😎
so its a big head turner eh?
Why did you move mirrors?
The location is where they were when I originally found the car before restoration. I left them where they were to pay respect to the condition I found the car.
They say it's a poorman porche because of it's shape
My best friend has one
Looking at a '65 to maybe restore. The worst part of this video is when you parked it.. haha
still have the 36 HP engine?
100% original
Talbot Spiegel !? Yeah
Listen to the 36hp and crash box nothing else sounds like that
I;'m jealous.
カッコイイです✨😍👍
Sounds like youve got the set too rich. Or your engine brand new.
Carburator
I wanna see it from the outside

TheSpritz0 Have you DRIVEN a sports car with paddle shifters? They're atrocious.

I agree with you with cars 2 or 3+ years ago, but I've tried 2014/2015 models and they are MUCH improved!!!
