I moved to hospice 6 months ago after Neuro/Stroke and Oncology nursing in the hospital. I agree with all this! It can be lonely, it can sometimes be scary, you have to feel confident, you have to be able to communicate well. BUT I feel so connected to my community, it is very hollistic, I feel like I am able to take in REAL AIR after a rough visit. I am able to see new areas of my town and the surrounding towns that I otherwise would never know about. I love it so much. I hope I never lose how I feel about this job.
Ha because I am from southeastern Massachusetts and it’s like little portugal over here and I just got a job in home hospice. I follow you both so I was so excited to see the colab and even more excited when nurse Allie mentioned vavo! Lol then I wonder if she’s from MA or RI since we have such a heavy Portuguese Portuguese population. And how she added a V in front of Avo makes me think she’s azorian, which is even a bigger indicator she can be from this area.
Haha, LTC or a prison. And yes, the ratios in LTC are ridiculous. Very unsafe. I think it’s a combination of it being a business/about profits, and the way we view the elderly in our culture. Hard to believe the owners of these places care. Though it seems probably over 1/3 of LTC patients today are younger people with chronic illnesses, and they are the ones who take up most of your time.
