Omg... I’ve been watching too much Forensic Files. Actually, I was looking around some nursing textbooks and I found a textbook that ‘s about Forensic Nursing. I can’t believe there’s actually a field on Forensic Nursing. Thanks for making this video. You’re the best!
Retired nurse. Have never understood "nurses eat their young" Nursing is stressful enough without all that drama.
Yeah it's real that's why I'm not one of them. The drama is more exciting with staff n patient
I'm getting ready to start my 2nd year of nursing school. Forensic Nursing is what I want to do, and this video just confirms it. Thank you so much for this!!!!
Hey have you graduated yet? I just started school a couple weeks ago and my program will be done end of next year
@@emilygibbons9475 Hi! Yes I graduated in May 2020, I'm working as an RN on a psychiatric unit at a VA. I
@@amyreynolds823 congratulations! I’m so excited for you. I know it’s been a while since you graduated, but I know the past you is so proud!! Are you still interested in forensic nursing? Your current job sounds very interesting and rewarding. ❤️
I was a CNA and spent most of my career on psych units and ended up working in a forensic psych hospital (criminal psychiatric hospital). It's a really hard but also rewarding job.
I definitely suggest trying psych out for a little while because it's one of those fields that you either love or you hate. But it's so understaffed because so few people decide to go into it. They need nurses and CNA's who want to help people who are sick in a much different way.
I will have my BSN this September God willing and I want to be a psych nurse. I was first interested in forensics but since they are all linked together, I will work in a criminal psych unit instead. Tnx for the info.
This is fantastic! Answers so many questions, just to know I only need a BSN and not MSN is amazing! Been working in ICU for 5 yrs and now this is my next goal :)
Just started watching... Dudes skin is incredible
Thank you for touching upon different fields within nursing !! 💕 currently a nursing student and was interested in forensic nursing
I wanted to be a forensic pathologist but I got really burnt out in undergrad so I went to nursing school..and I hate it. This gives me hope😭
Thank you so much for these interview, it shed light on the different nursing opportunities
I'm a big fan, Blake. Thank you so much for this interview! I took Forensics in high school and truly enjoyed it. And came across something a few months ago about Forensic Nursing. Seeing your video I feel like was a God sent. I'm a CNA starting a job in an ICU and starting nursing school in August. Perhaps this is a sign. Cool that Dr. Drake worked in Colorado too, because I'm from there.
My dream is to be a SANE nurse!! Thank u for posting this! ❤❤❤
Awesome show. A lot of people talk about SANE-A and SANE-P but I find death investigation/coroner work interesting too. If I were ever to go on to be an MD, it'll be in forensic pathology. Fascinating stuff.Too bad there aren't that many jobs out there, really gotta dig.
Ut would be fun to see the more uncommon jobs in nursing. Insurance, plasma center, blood bank etc...
This is my dream job from Kenya (Africa). Best nursing specialty.
Here in Alabama! I'm applying for nursing school. I'm so excited about Forensic Nursing. Just heard about it from a friend who got hired to be just that! 💖
Wow, idk if I am cool enough to do this! Currently working on my BSN and considering this field for my Masters. It sounds so intimidating.
Thanks for doing a video about forensic nursing! I often watch your videos and find them hilarious, thanks for all you do!
I’m from Houston, too!
Forensics for me! My dream since high school.
Omg ! I been soo interested in this
I just googled it where I live and you can be an LPN to do this job also.... I thought you would at least need a BSN
Yes this is correct!! you can be an LPN/VN but, to be a SANE (sexual assault nurse examiner) you MUST be an RN.
Great video ❤
Amazing. I hope to one day do this
This is what I want to do! Currently in a MSN program for forensic nursing. My state doesn’t really have forensic nurses as death investigators. But I really want to figure out a way to start this in my area. I am not sure what to do or how to find out about it. I’m from Oregon. Any advice helps. Thanks
How did you become a forensic nurse? Did you take regular nursing school then go into forensic? Im confused 😕 ( I’m a junior in HS )
Natalee Leon I’ve done some looking into this, as after I am done my training with the Marines I’ll be starting my classes for Forensic Nursing! What I have seen is this, I hope this helps!
- Bachelors degree in Nursing, while trying to take as many forensic classes as possible to help.
- Getting your Masters degree in Forensic Nursing
- Become a RN- Registered Nurse in your state (they look for some experience!)
- Take the SANE exam (Sexual Assult Nurse Examiner) to get certified.
- After you take any exams (boards exam for nursing and anything else that may help) you should be all set to apply somewhere!
I hope this helps! 😊
@@JazlynnNewcomb appreciate this comment a lot! It helped me like crazy you have no idea.
Very informative thank u
hi, the video is very cool. Ì´m from Portugal anda i love forensic nursing. I want to do a PhD in forensic nursing
Hi Nuno, are there jobs in portugal for forensic nurses and what do they do? Where can you work in portugal as a forensic nurse?
@@cafepraiaesucego2899 Hi Laura.
where are you from?
In Portugal we are still at the beginning of forensic nursing.
I work in the police as a nurse in the area of forensic medicine.
Right now I study forensic nursing, because soon Portugal will have this specialty. When you have doubts ask me. best regards
@@nunocoelho2102 Nuno I would love to contact you.
I am an american (portuguese father) who is a nurse in nj. I am planning to move to portugal in the next 5 years or so. My biggest problem has been to connect with anyone there in terms of nursing. Even my cousins in portugal cannot help me. When I saw your comment, I was ecstatic!
So you live in Portugal and work as a forensic nurse? Where in Portugal? Can you tell me what the requirements are or would it be easy for me to transfer all my requirements there? Salary info or at least an idea? I am so hopeful.
Thank you, thank you, obrigado, for the reply!!!!!!!!!! :)
where are the forensic nursing programs
There is one online I think it’s called aspen university it’s in Colorado.
I completed bsc in forensic science can i become a forensic nurse
Ft Wayne, IN, and want to know whats the most exciting part of forensic nursing
I’m interested in the death investigation part of this, however I’m afraid I wouldn’t be considered for jobs as a male with the whole SA examinations part of it. Is it required when getting your msn that you do the SANE part? I wouldn’t want to do that personally, but also just knowing most people would be uncomfortable with it.
So does she actually do the autopsies?
She can assist the medical examiner who is the one which conducts the autopsy.
Hi I am a LPN for 7 yrs and most of my experience in in PACU and Ophthalmology. I start my first assignment at a states corrections facility in Florida on Monday . I am nervous about my new role as a nurse not so much of the environment. Any advice?
Where can she tell us to volunteer in the cleveland area so that we can learn more about death investigation?
Please how can I get online materials on forensic nursing ?🙏
So she has a Ph.D. in nursing, making her both a doctor (but not an M.D.) and a nurse?
That’s not very uncommon. Advanced practice nurses are required to have a Masters or higher.
I live in Ohio in the cleveland Akron areas. Where can I shadow someone in forensic nursing/investigative nursing? Or where can I volunteer for investigative nursing?? Thank you!!!!
so what are the educational requirements to becoming a forensic nurse? do we have to get our ban first ? how does getting it work ?
What kind of license do you need specifically to do medical examiner? The only forensic nurse I see avail in NJ is Forensic Nurse-Sexual Assault Nurse examiner. Is that the only one you need even if you dont want to do SANE nursing, but want to do Nurse Medical Examiner?
Medical Examiners are physicians who've specialized in forensic pathology.
I would like to know something about forensic nurse.. am a final year bsc nursing student and my exams are over now and waiting for my results. Basically am from kerala india. I would like to know wheather i can work directly as a forensic nurse as a fresher without any experience or whether i need to do any courses to be a forensic nurse and to work as to...

This is relatable! I’m almost done with my BS in forensic bio, but I realized I wanted to do nursing. I’m very glad this field exists.
