- Australian alco unit 602 (600 class) - with its V12 - 251c engine, plenty of soot and noise for you alco fans!
Gopro9 with media mod (mic filter not attached hence the wind) mounted via rare earth magnet on the long end of 602. - Розваги
I could never stay awake with that soothing cadence.
Thanks for another great video.
It is amazing how similar the ALCO 12 251c Prime Mover sounds to a GE
FDL12 Prime mover.
Ahh the 251c. The engine that Alco SHOULD have built in the early 40's if they'd have had their quality control in order. Nothing chugs dirty like a good old Alco! Awesome video as always!
-Shane from Texas
Cheers man!
I believe they were built in 1965 according to a source
@@vincentweatherly9991 Right but i'm referring to the V12 diesels. Before the 251c Also made the 244. And even though it was an excellent design it was a DISASTER due to very poor quality control leading to massive amounts of locomotives having to go in for major repair in the 40's. This pretty much ruined Alco's reputation to the point of being irreparable. The 251 is basically a "244H" engine. Which has all the quality issues resolved. Unfortunately it was too late to save Alco. EMD had leapt forward with the massive success of their 2-stroke locomotives like the GP7
Very beautiful sound.
Enjoyed your video immensely. That Alco sound and scenery , there is nothing more I could ask for. Thank you for sharing ;-)
Cheers glad you enjoyed it!
Nothing like the sound of an old Alco.
Hi Adam, great video. It's awesome to hear the sound of an ALCO, may they keep going and going for a long while yet. Stay safe, cheers Lee.
Great video! Love the sound of an ALCO. Terrific to see the landscape around Bomen-Wagga Wagga-Kapooka-Uranquinty so green for a change!
Fantastic video mate, great sound, love the alco’s great job👍
Another quality upload. Awesome scenery.
I used to love my 48s l miss driving them in particular these days.
Beautiful little loco! Bulletproof!
Great video of the scenery and of the old ALCO burbling chug.
Nothing like an ALCO burbling and chugging away, especially at idle!.
Great smoke show and great sound. The scenery isn't bad either.
That dirty burble, I just can listen the whole day to that.
Another nice piece of filming. Don't get to see many anymore as I live in a different area
In my opinion best sounding locomotive engine
The turbochargers are awfully quiet. Love that whistle under load.
Awesome job standing on the roof of the locomotive whilst risking your life and filming for us very appreciative and loyal fans LOL . . .
Keep up the good work mate 👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome video as always!
Now that's some top tier thrash sir!
Thankyou for sharing i remember when these unit where brand new shitting in a shed at Peterborough Yes i am showing my age i was 10 at the time
Nice video!!! And audio!
Digital Proof that your train was coming all the way!

Wishing all 600s still existed......scrapping them was a very bad idea!
Cool thanks mate
Yeah they certainly have a unique sound, unfortunately I did not get to hear them at all growing up as Almost all of our Victorian Railways locomotives were 2 stroke EMD’s they seem to be a bit more friendly on the ears too and no wonder these slow revving engines last so long as when their flat out they’re rpm’s are just over idle speed on your average auto lol, but again another really beaut and enjoyable film, thankyou! 👌
It's all about piston speed. Slow revving engines can have similar piston speed as a 19,500rpm 250cc motorcycle engines. One has a 11" stroke the other has a 1.4" stroke. It is far more about stroke length than RPM.
(it is true that loco engines are slow revving and have comparatively slow piston speeds, but we won't worry about that will we?? LOL)
There may be railfans that live in India that may like this as many of their Diesel Locos are Alco-Powered. Albeit on a track width of 5ft 0in
There's always a saying that GE is an ALCo in modern days. Well, I think, that's not true. See, ALCo had more special things in it. Yes, the dimensions of the engine are identical to 7FDLs, but, there's things that GE don't have from ALCo... The manly chugging noise and turbine-whistling in one single time. GE meanwhile, did chugging and whistling, but it is nearly not sounding at all, so, it is a different thing.
Nice.
This engine is still used in indian railway loco wdm3d, they dont make them anymore but still in normal service
Yes that's correct. We no longer produce them here either but some alcos in Australia are still maintained and repaired, using Indian made parts as they are one of the only other countries still making parts for them. Great old locomotives/engines.!
this locomotive seems to be much less smoky than WDM3D!
Are those telegraph wires still in use or just left behind relics?
I don't believe so.
👍👍
Are there any Alco locos with V16 engines still running in Australia? Thanks. Just curious.
None that I know of. The Pilbara region had c30s etc back in the 80s/90s but nothing really since, most is all GE, EMD, Cummins, MTU now.
Old machines but serious grunt. What is the cubic capacity of this engine? Won’t be long before we appreciate at old diesels the way we appreciate steam locos 👍🏻
8016ci in the V12 or 668ci per cyl
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER awesome, 11 litres per cylinder!!! And to think I’m complaining about the cost of diesel right now, glad I’m not feeding that thing. 👍🏻🚂💨💨
@@Cammo-vp1gl Bet they can move a lot weight per Gal or liter of fuel.....Healthy sounding Engine.....
Thanks great video......
Hey Adam,
is that Bomen siding?? 0:33 or hairfield
Cheers
Hairfield
👍👍👍
Like # 222. Great views. Where was this run?
at 6:49, is that a wildlife walkway?
I reckon it is
What was the other loco/s in the consist?
CLF3, 602, S311, CLP12
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER Thanks for the reply, love your videos ( just a little jealous, I never made it as a train driver)
Another question what gauge is operating in the United States
Standard gauge in the USA
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER thank you for that
Nice video mate. I heard that 602 is the only 600 class still running!
Apparently so.
Sorry guys, to me the loco sounded like a cement truck. I loved the journey though. 👍🏻💖🤗
I wonder how did you manage to attach the camera to the roof? 🤔
A cement truck with 8000ci!
Was attached with a magnetic base.
SWEET💪👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😀😀😀😀😎Cheers
Who needs Viagra when you have this. I would pay big bucks to charity to ride in an Alco!
Goodday Adam,
Great to hear the old Alco barking, rolling coal. With all the environmental movement going on around the world atm, the day of the fossil fuel burners are numbered sad but true.
Saw this combo I think at Emerald Grain on Tuesday.
By the looks of it the journey is heading north empty.
Was that Seymour Train Station you barreling through.
The last 600 class in the world look after her.
Any chance she will lead anytime soon.
Best looking long hood flat top in Australia.
Cheers
Louis 👍
They will be running these and others like her for years to come. Maybe the greens can all line up at the back and start pushing.
Oooooooo🤩 More like this, please 💜
What do you enjoy most about it.?
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER
Hi, love the slow TV feel. Also love the sound of the engine doing it’s thing. And particularly love seeing the smoke, knowing that somewhere, a greeny is suffering 🙊
Haha that last bit! 😂👌
Ah good to know. These are easy, and the camera gets to see a side of things not many get to see, it's a generator working hard as the scenery rolls by, and must I add, good speakers with a subwoofer will make you feel the power.
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER
Agree about the sound system! Do you reckon you could do one like this that goes for around an hour?
@@jennyanydots7582 it could try halfa and see how it goes. I'd also like to pick locations that are scenic, maybe even use 2 gopros.. 🤔
It must be a pain in the arse at fuel point, this one's 2 stroke, this one's 4 stroke!! don't mix em!?
Hahaha not quite how they work! 😂😂
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER 2 Stroke or 4 Stroke being diesel they take the same Diesel fuel
Unlike old Petrol engines. Hope this helps.
Yep well aware of that, hopefully Graeme is just taking the piss.
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER
Yep! I was taking the piss. I was on the footplate 1970 till 73 out off Dynon. qualified as fireman Q but got out when told I had to transfer "sparks' ( too many suicides in Flinders st} That was a question I from a guy at Spencer St when using an F class to shunt over a pass set for a country run. He wondered why I burst out laughing!!... But good days!
Looks like a 48
48s had the external exhaust stack
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER ok thank you I do love the locos remember as a boy watching the silverton railway shunting in my old city broken hill They had the red and white livery then they were 48s I think.
I have a video like this of a 48 too.
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER excellent
May i use a small piece of your video for a demonstration of my sound projects? Thank you
Of course. 😊
Is this for UA-cam or external?
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER it is for my youtube channel, i create sounds for model trains and i will present a Romanian ALCO which the real one is dead for a long time and after i created the sound project using sources from United States with same engine and when i will make presentation i want to show a small part of your video (which is exact engine as ours) to show the accuracy of my work.
Oh very cool!
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER ua-cam.com/video/T6IxDyQz7CQ/v-deo.html our long exinct ALCO has been brought to life as a model
at 6:49, is that a wildlife walkway?
Sure is!
